What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Dis gui wood nott helps us aganst rokkets at allll!!!!

We need shooting, creation, playmaking, and we need it in a player that doesn’t compromise the defense... would be nice if that player also had some high level playoff experience...

But no thanks to Conley... he will mak a whole 5M more than Dlo so pass.

Dude. I get it. We don't agree here. We are both beating dead horses.

And for the record - Conley costs us Rubio, Favors, at least 1 draft pick and Exum, Crowder, something else.

DLo or Tobias cost us cap space. We keep our picks (which I believe are very valuable). They also allow us to keep the other asset(s) necessary to get Conley (Crowder, Exum, another pick).

But most importantly, we can't even make a run at a free agent if we lock up Conley during the draft. It's the biggest free agent class in the league's history and we don't even want to try? Where is the ambition?

Dlo and Harris cost is Favs and Ricky too... that’s a dunk cost unless you are running it back... don’t be dumb.

Exum is a negative asset... no reason Jae and other stuff need to be added in.

We don’t need to make a run at a free agent if we get Conley... we can go get one that is actually going to sign here like Niko or Rudy Gay.

But yeah let’s pass and see if we can get that free agent... talk about putting your eggs in one basket... let’s go and try and get guys that 5-6 teams are after and worry about multiple dominoes that could fall that we can’t control and leave us holding the bag.

If we sign Russell for $25-27 million, I still think we can re-sign Favors which the front office has made very clear they want to try to do.

What makes you think the FO views Exum is a negative asset? If that's true, why would Memphis want him? Why would Memphis take a lesser pick than ours and a player they don't want in order to give us Conley? So in order to beat Indy or another to Conley, we are going to have to give a pick, and Exum AND an asset to make Memphis take Exum?

The logic is failing.

Not really... I’d give up two firsts if they took Exum. I don’t care how the front office views Exum deal... if he was on free agent he would not get 2 years and 19m... maybe half that but would more likely be looking at a 2 M 5 per with second year a team option.

My logic is sound AF... I’m not the one saying we will get a Dlo at less than the max and that a waived player will come back.

We can just wait on see on Carsen. We can both have differing opinions until then.

VanVleet is who he is. He plays his role for Toronto and has a ring because of it. We desperately need a guy who can score buckets like he just did. Doesn't even have to be a starter. Is that Grayson? Maybe, but I'm not sold yet. Could it be Carsen?

Conley seems to be the answer for everything and I hate putting all my eggs into one basket. If he fails, gets hurt, pulls a George Hill, whatever, we stand to lose everything. Draft picks, Rudy, maybe Donovan.

?

Conley isn’t going to be the thing that costs us Mitchell and Gobert. NOT getting a player of Conley’s caliber will be the thing that does it.

Also, you’re advocating that the value of FVV is approximate to that of Kyle Lowry when he was still in his prime. You take prime Kyle Lowry every single time.

Here's my biggest issue with Conley (and I've love to hear a counter argument to it). Conley has two years left on his deal. When that deal is done Conley will be 34 years old and his career will likely be about over. Meaning he won't be a top guy for the Jazz to resign. They'll also likely have Mitchell on a max deal that point and Rudy on a supermax deal, meaning there will be 0 cap space. There likely won't be any potential all star players whose bird rights the Jazz have. That basically hand cuffs the Jazz and leaves no real free agency options.

Finding a guy in free agency this year whether it's an all star like D Lo or two younger potentially impact players, at least that would lock them up for longer and then give us Bird rights to them to potentially resign those players when we don't have any cap space.

I understand that part of the equation. At best I think we have a 25% chance at Tobias... miss on him and I’d be nervous. Part of it is I am not a big believer in DLo and I think his contract may end up as bad money. Young free agents are almost always restricted... meaning good ones won’t change teams in most cases. If we want to push the picks into a deal for a younger guard I’d be cool with it. I don’t live the FA options on the perimeter.

I’d be cool with using the space on a couple different guys in the second/third tier of FA... but I highly doubt that happens... at that point we opt to keep Favs and add maybe one player... with 12-13M in space... I think we’d run it back... kind of... and in a year we’d be cap strapped either way.

I don't see how we get Russell as a FA. I think Nets do a sign/trade with someone.

Why would another team do the Nets a favor like that? Why would D'Lo want the team he is going to to give up assets? Additionally, Brooklyn can't really take back salary, that is why D'Lo would be leaving in the first place.
