The official "let's impeach Trump" thread

The readout is much worse than I figured it would be, which makes me wonder why Trump released it.

He may have believed that because it doesn't include an outright quid pro quo, although it does come close, that it would fall short of people's expectations. I think this was a miscalculation on his part.

He may have been counting on the media to repeat what he said about Biden stopping Ukraine from prosecuting Hunter, without adding that Hunter was never the target of prosecution to begin with. This is think will probably be how that ends up going.

Doesn't seem like that's going to be nearly as helpful to Trump as the first bit will be damaging to him, though.

A small item from the Trump-Ukraine call memo that will go under-reported:

It's notable that Zelensky specifically tells Trump that Ukraine is ready to buy more Javelin anti-tank missiles. In 2018, it was reported that the Ukrainian government specifically felt that it would not be permitted to buy exactly that model of missile from the Trump Administration if it provided too much assistance to the Mueller investigation.

That line demonstrates that Zelensky understands the stakes if he refuses Trump's request to work with Giuliani and Barr.

Oh that is very interesting. Makes sense why Trump brought Mueller up right after Zelenzky mentioned the Javelins.

That is incorrect a lot of them do. China has actually been doing a lot to clean up the air lately. In fact I was just visiting a girlfriend who was in Yantai for work who was helping them reduce trucks driving by shipping trucks on a big boat across the bay to reduce emissions in the area.

But China does still produce a **** ton of pollution and waste still. China has a far far far bigger impact on the world's pollution levels than the USA.

Oh my ***,

Your girlfriend doing work in some ****ing city. China is a ******** in terms of air pollution and poisoning of the water

I think the vast majority of what any average American has to say about China, unless they've lived there for an extended period, can be discounted. This also applies to most foreign countries.

A very good explainer of the whole Joe Biden/Hunter Biden situation from the Kyiv post: the only good English language news source in Ukraine. It's less than five minutes long, and explains the role of all the relevant players (also, subscriptions are only $5/month and you'll learn a lot while supporting independent journalism in Europe's largest country).

I asked in another thread but didn't really get an answer.
So if trump were impeached he would continue on as president and then still be able to run for president next fall again right?

So impeachment means absolutely nothing really if his supporters remain loyal to him.

What the heck do never trumpers have with Pence? You can't even support him?
For one thing, his support of Trump. For example, it appears that it's very possible that Pence delivered at least one of Trump's "investigate Biden's son or else" ultimatums to Ukraine.

Thanks, excellent video. Says the same stuff you said earlier, but in a more easily shareable format.

If he's impeached by the House but not convicted by the Senate, then yes he would continue on as President. If he's impeached by the House and then also convicted by the Senate, then he would be immediately kicked out as President. Either way yes, he would be able to run again for President next Fall. But if he's actually removed from office I think there's no chance he would still have enough supporters to win another election. Probably also not, even if he's not removed from office.

Two other important points:

1. An impeachment trial in the Senate will effectively force individual GOP Senators to go on record. This puts their political futures on the line with Trump.

2. While Trump could theoretically run for President again if he was removed from office, he would also be subject to criminal prosecution that he has thus far been able to avoid. His life will get a lot more complicated if he's removed.

a) There was absolutely an implied quid pro quo; even if Trump didn't say explicitly that the withheld funding would be restored if Ukraine did what Trump wanted, there was a very strong implication.

b) Even if there had not been an implied quid pro quo, it really doesn't matter whether there was one or not. What Trump has already admitted to, is illegal and definitely impeachable.

Another day and another BS conspiracy from the Dems. Another nothing burger. More time wasted. More lies spread.

Its unreal how crooked the Dems are. Its disgusting just how dumb their base is too.

1. Do you think that scenario changes the calculus at all and, if so, what does that change the realistic probability of being able to obtain enough GOP votes to remove?

2. Clearly he wouldn't be re-elected if removed from office, but would you honestly place the chances of him being removed from office as even a remote possibility?

Here is the president of Ukraine, not only saying that they are looking into the corruption involving the gas company and the state prosecutor who was dismissed, but also asking for assistance and information from the U.S. to do so. If Zelenskyy is being extorted here, he sure sounds agreeable. The Dems are arguing that by President Trump merely mentioning the issue, he is making an 'implied threat,' but that is a very subjective and partisan interpretation, especially if Zelenskyy makes a statement to the contrary.

President Zelenskyy: I guarantee as the President of Ukraine that all the investigations will be done openly and candidly... That I can assure you. I wanted to tell you about the prosecutor. First of all, I understand and I'm knowledgeable about the situation. Since we have won the absolute majority in our Parliament, the next prosecutor general will be 100% my person, my candidate, who will be approved, by the parliament and will start as a new prosecutor in September. He or she will look into the situation, specifically to the company that you mentioned in this issue. The issue of the investigation of the case is actually the issue of making sure to restore the honesty so we will take care of that and will work on the investigation of the case. On top of that, I would kindly ask you if you have any additional information that you can provide to us, it would be very helpful for the investigation to make sure that we administer justice in our country with regard to the Ambassador to the United States from Ukraine as far as I recall her name was Ivanovich. It was great that you were the first one who told me that she was a bad ambassador because I agree with you 100%. Her attitude towards me was far from the best as she admired the previous President and she was on his side. She would not accept me as a new President well enough.
