Found a couple things interesting in the article Tony Jones did on DM in the Athletic.

Some parts from it

“I had to look in the mirror,” Mitchell told The Athletic.

The play in question happened last Monday night. Mitchell ran a pick-and-roll with Gobert. He got into the paint off the dribble, saw Gobert rolling to the basket and threw him a pass. That pass bounced off Gobert’s hands. Mitchell, frustrated, showed that frustration by throwing his hands in the air. And he knew he was wrong.“

“Mitchell was frustrated. His teammates were frustrated. The Jazz as a whole also were frustrated because there had been several ugly losses that probably should not have happened. But Mitchell has always endeared himself to his coaching staff and front office for his ability to recognize his own flaws, accept criticism and try to improve. And film that next day told some tough truths. Mitchell wasn’t making the extra reads. He wasn’t making the right reads when getting into the lane. And too often, he wasn’t finding the open man, making the game easy on his teammates, or himself.”

“I just had to see it,” Mitchell said. “I had to apologize to Rudy. My body language was awful. I realize that I have to be a better leader. I just have to be better all around, and that’s something that I’m going to always have to keep in mind.”

I mentioned in a couple threads how Donovan’s body language had been terrible of late. The Lakers game was really bad. It’s nice to see he noticed it as well and was reflective enough to want to change it. He wants it, and that’s a great thing. Just gotta channel the passion.

I wonder why Mitchell would feel frustrated? I keep hearing they have more wins now than at this point last season. And the phrase championship contender keeps getting tossed around.

Think we're further from it than last year at this point tho. This season has a weird feel, maybe it because expectations are so high this year? I dunno.

By the way its a good article by TJ

To the Rudy is the leader crowd yeah sure in part. Donovan is the Jazz ceiling, Donovan is the most talented/dynamic player on the team. Donovan is the face of the franchise, and if you’ve listened to several players currently on the teams interviews this season several of them call Donovan “our best player”. I’m not sure it’s as unanimous as some of you think it is. They both very much are. And it’s become more obvious among players Donovan makes the connection with a lot of them. His leadership growth is very important. He’s had some bad moments in regards to it this season at times.

And principally, beyond all of those subjective things (though most of them true), Donovan is the guy that we're going to give the ball to be deciding between scoring and playmaking throughout the game, with heavy emphasis on the crunch time (and while Conley is out, it only gets amplified).

As a initiator of our offense, he's the principal leader (even more with so much noise around conley production so far), even if Rudy is the most impactful force on the team (which is my bar to say Mitchell is our better player, he made strides, but still going, should keep pushing), he's the guy anchoring the defense at rim, setting screens, setting the tone for hustle and finishing lobs/rolling to the basket, he's not who's deciding on the court in the heat of the moment what the play it's gonna be.

I've heard a bunch of our guys say Donovan is our best player and it's not a crazy thing to say. In terms of overall impact at winning, well, that paints a different picture. Rudy is still the biggest factor bar none, on whether we win or not.

Maybe this is our problem... we have a bunch of 'ol dolts on the squad.

It’s likely because Donovan makes a better connection to them. Rudy and Donovan are both very important. Honestly at this point it’s just as much Donovan’s as it is Rudy’s. Probably not more one than the others but I’ve noticed from several players comments they seem to look at Donovan a lot more as the teams best player. And best and most impactful are probably two different things. He is our best and most skilled all around player.

Holy ****, braugh. It’s time to delete your account or start learning how to read braille. The future of your eyesight seems bleak.

Just created a post about this since I've been thinking about how much more we could get Rudy the ball and this convo jogged my memory.

Redirect.

Tony Jones has declared Die Hard to be the greatest Christmas movie of all time.
Further solidifying his position as the #1 Jazz personality I'd like to hang out with for the day.

Everything I said is accurate. I never denied the man's talent, but as for actual offensive skills, he is sorely lacking.
