What's new

August 20:Big Match Turkey&Germany-Enes Kanter&Dirk Nowitzki match is starting now:) live Link here

Yes, ability to explode is a huge part in functional athletic ability. Jumping high isn't that great if you can't get off the floor with urgency and quickness (why Boozer sucked on D). Kanter has shown a Boozer like lead foot on D at points, too early to tell.

Thanks for the back up.

You cant compare Kanter to Boozer, because he was really clumsy, it wasnt about speed or something, he just dont do defense, and he doesnt know how to do it. Kanter isnt the best defender but at least he is trying and he is much smarter than Boozer, he will be better once he gets time to play together with his team

Also, JV and Favors would beastly together. One of them will most likely develop shooting range eventually, as a GM, having Favors would not deter me from drafting JV. Would you lose some offensive diversity, yeah I guess, but you would gain more than enough defensive intensity, length, and rebounding to counter that loss. Plus, Favors will most likely develop a decent mid-range game eventually. JV also could probably develop enough of a mid-range jumper to were he has to at least be covered on the perimeter. Even though I support Kanter, I would still rather have JV.

Agree 100%. 95% of the rebounding and shot blocking are done jumping of two feet. Thats why I ignore max verticals from big men jumping of one foot as it gives you no proper assessment of their value. No step vertical is most reliable here.

As almost everyone else has stated, no one is expecting Kanter to be a shot blocker, but he should excel at rebounding. Verticals jumping is not a necessity to be an elite rebounder as evidenced by some of the elite rebounders in the game (i.e. Michael Cage, Oakley, Love, etc.).

As I've said before, you don't need to be athletic to be an above average defender.

I don't buy the popular opinion of Boozer didn't try defensively. Boozer has always had slow lateral quickness, he doesn't react well, doesn't cover the PNR well. Of course Kanter will be a good man to man/post defender. Even Memo ranks near the top when he is defending a post-up. Can he cover the PNR? Does he know when and were to help?

I think Love tested a 35 inch max vertical, while being slightly overweight. Just because he is goofy and white doesnt mean he can't jump.

Yes, 35 inch vert with 12.9% body fat (overweight by NBA standards). I would assume his body fat has gone down and his vertical up since being drafted.

Regardless of who we're discussing here, one does not need to be an elite athlete to be an elite rebounder ... though I do believe one needs to be an elite athlete to be a great shot-blocker.

Mark Eaton :). Obviously to be either you have to be either a great athlete, or someone with tremendous size/strength.

He wont be the best PnR defender but wont be as bad as neither boozer nor big all

Unless you're 7'4" or above.

... and instincts. Rajon Rondo at 6'1 was Kentucky's 2nd leading rebounder with nearly 8 per game and once pulled down 19 in a game. (I know you don't like Rondo, either, which is why I used him as an example, lol)

He does have a mammoth wingspan though, which support my theory of tremendous size, and is quite athletic.

, but right now noone can convince me JV is better than Kanter offensively.

So the fact he is scoring in friendlies 3x more then Kanter and with better FG and FT % playing against same or better competiton ( Gasols Ibaka, Mozgov, AK, etc,) is nothing. OK.

Sepanol, PKM, orangello, and others like Kanter better than JV
AKMVP, Cyrone, and others like JV better than Kanter
