Tough Day To Be In Law Enforcement

Great post
I don't think Biden is the answer either but it least he won't cause as many problems that need answers as trump does/will.

I see him as the democrat version of Bush... less lovable but we can survive a dummy if they are willing to put good people around them and good people can actually tolerate being around him.

Weird. It’s not like the GOP does a good job of hiding their racism. This was just today:

This was just a few years ago in arguably the most high profile governor’s race:

I haven’t even brought up Republican history since 1964, the new Jim Crow of the war on drugs, actual racist policies, and the daily racism of Fox News, am radio, and Trump. At this point, being surprised that the GOP engages in racism would be like being surprised that the earth is round or that vaccines help to prevent disease. What kind of news does your family member consume? Did they start becoming politically aware in the 80s? I’ve found that those who grew up with Reagan are much more loyal to the party than almost any other demographic.

I’m super naive but also not indoctrinated into my views... I have been shocked when sharing basic thoughts about what is going on and getting responses like “you going liberal?” Or “CA is really getting to you”.

It all comes down to people blindly following their party and dismissing some seriously ugly flaws as unimportant or fake news. I’m losing a ton of respect for folks... **** clearly isn’t going to bother them until they are directly affected.

Great ideas and comments in this thread. But what are YOU going to do to change things? Has anyone here protested? Have you donated? How are you going to use your privilege for good, instead of just telling other what you think needs to happen?

All these ideas are great, but what are gonna do to affect change?

I haven't protested because of Covid 19. It's been going back up and gathering in large groups right now seems a lil wreckless with the pandemic going around that a lot conveniently forget.Screenshot_20200603-150136_Chrome.jpg

So tear gas people and beat up reporters (even Australian ones) so you can come up with a lame *** photo op?

Are Christians really this stupid to buy this cheap ****?
Lol what an embarrassing idiot.
Oh, and nice hair and tan dummy

Just thinking of religion and all with the talk of that priest and my friend who’s such a good dude (yet maniac too) and I think of fish.

@fishonjazz

If there’s a heaven, which I personally don’t think there is, you’re going there.

You embody Christianity more than just about anyone and everyone I know. Maybe @colton too. But he posts less and I therefore don’t “know” him as well.
Thanks but nah man. I have done way too much bad and not nearly enough good.
My daughter's 4 year birthday was yesterday and we were up at campground high up in an alpine setting. So many of my family made this long *** drive on a workday and stayed much longer than they should have and made her day so special. I think it was the best day of her life so far. Man she was happy

I have a past and it ain't pretty. Much of it is quite ugly in fact. I don't deserve all the good things I have in my life. I'm lucky as hell bro.
Don't need or desire heaven. I have already got it better than I should.

I haven’t attended a protest over concerns of the virus. I’d like to and still might if Salt Lake organizes it. The wife and I have donated money to a handful of groups:
  • Campaign Zero
  • Equal Justice Initiative (Bryan Stevenson of Just Mercy)
  • Black Lives Matter
  • Loveland Foundation
  • ACLU
  • Bond Funds
  • And of course, the DNC :)

in that case I think it’s more you’re learning about diversity. I don’t know where you’re from originally (I’m assuming Utah) and sadly a lot of Utahns live in a bubble. My wife in particular, has family that has never even left metropolitan areas like Manti or Saratoga Springs. Her cousins often react to my wife’s liberal views as “indoctrination.” As if previous schools and universities in Provo, Florida, and Texas were somehow liberal bastions of society.

I’ve found in my life that those who accuse others of being indoctrinated are often the most indoctrinated. An easy way to shut down questions is to accuse someone of being indoctrinated. If living in California is causing you to self-reflect and ask Questions, that’s not indoctrination. It’s actually the opposite and is a sign of maturity.

I would vote for him.

In no way am I joking.
I can't say I would or wouldn't.
Don't know enough about his politics, public speaking ability, passion for the job, etc.

He did have a great work ethic (I think) in the nba but I'm not certain that would carry over into being president

His personality seems abrasive and volatile.

I would need a lot of convincing to vote for him

Yeah, I recall you going into detail about your pst before but I’d guess you’ve learned and grown more than the most.

The fact is more or less every white person is racist in America. It's part of our culture and it's human nature. Racist doesn't mean you are a bad person it simply means you make judgments based on race. To me there's 3 types of people. People who see it and try to correct it and be better, people who are ignorant to it for various reasons, and the terrible people who embrace it and think it's okay. I would like to think the last one is a small minority and that lots are in the other two groups. I hope everyone can move to seeing it and trying to correct it.
Really good post

Personally, I want to go to a protest on Saturday in the town in which I teach but I’m very hesitant because of corona. The town has the most Covid cases and deaths of any city in the county and I’ve had a bunch of students who’ve had family members die. It’s a city where everything is close together like NYC and the notion of contracting it there scares me.
I don't think you should go

Yeah... grew up in Utah... been in NorCal for the last 15 years, but I'm not in a super diverse area... so it is growing up and self reflection. I literally had no black people in my friends/family circle growing up. Have made several friends out here and they always been so accepting and cool. One was the head of security in Oracle and walked us around the arena one night during a game and got so many weird looks when he introduced us as their friends. I'll bet he took a little ****... I never even thought about it.

Never really discussed racism and other issues because it never came up. I assumed most people were accepting but am finding out how much hidden racism there still is. I can't wait until we can get together again and have some uncomfortable but enlightening (for me) conversations.

I just feel no need to defend one person in politics or one party... I have my views/beliefs. I just think its funny what people say when they feel comfortable and when someone calls them on it the defense becomes a "you getting soft?"

EDIT: never mind, I see more info in a later post.

Are you originally from Utah? Are these folks accusing you of having gone Californian Utahns?

My folks in the Mountain West all have their heads in the sand. It’s been shocking.
