2020 Free Agency Thread

Oh look. The Cavs just bamboozled the Lakers, getting the very playable JaVale McGee and a 2nd round pick for a bunch of garbage.

It's almost as if the non-contenders can sit back and wait for the best deals to emerge while the contenders need to make "bad" deals in order to achieve their greater goals.

Spellman and Evans make a total of less than 4mil next season. someone just tell me why can't the jazz take back their salary in this case? because they need the space to secure the signature of tucker, niang, NWG?

We forgot the part about some bigs being able to shoot a basketball as well as being big.

I didn't totally get the Trez signing, but this signing swings that from "questionable" to "aw **** me".
I think the Harrell signing for LA is brilliant. He is a work horse. You'll have guys working hard to guard AD and LBJ while the other guys are gonna have to work hard to keep Harrell off the boards. Defensively, he's more useful on the perimeter than McGee and Howard were.

And he'll have both space AND size at the other big spot at all times.

Because we don’t need to go even more into the luxury tax for guys who aren’t going to play anyways?

we are talking about NWG, Tucker, Brantley or even Niang whose 2021 salary isn't guaranteed. just waive two of these guys we'll have space for Spellman and Evans, plus we'd gain a second round pick instead of losing two. If you'll have to go into the tax anyways, why not spend the money on guys who'd actually have a chance to play, like Spellman. or you are just content at going into the season with 14 or even 13 active players on the roster WHILE paying the LT?

I'm a bit dissapointed the Jazz didnt sign a better wing like a Justin Holiday, but I'm also excited that the FO is signaling some faith in Oni. I really like him as a prospect and it will be fun to see if he and/or Hughes can develop into Utah's next crop of rotation wings.
