NFL Talk

Give me a ****ing break. I just lost the game and the winning coach is pushing me in the back as he's acting like a prick, and I'm suppose to "get over it"? I'm reacting the same way Schwartz did.

For the record, by saying "Get over it", I meant Schwartz should have, not you.

Harbaugh being an ******* is hardly breaking news. Schwartz needed to be the bigger man. He failed.

So, is Alex Smith still a "bust"?

He's played well so far this year, but if you watched yesterday's game, he played at a "C" level at best. That's even giving him the game winning TD pass too. As long as he keeps winning though, he may turn out to be an OK guy.

So I haven't watched the 49ers this year, but I keep hearing the "see!!!??" from Smith supporters. Is it justified? All I have to go off are the numbers, which are less than impressive. The 8-to-2 TD/INT ratio is great, but he's 30th in the league in yards/game, 28th in QBR...

Granted I'm coming at this from a largely "Fantasy NFL" perspective. Is Smith to thank for the 5-1 record?

I have only seen about 5 minutes of any 49er game, so (this time) my question was serious. How responsible is he for them being 5-1 since apparently he was the cause of their previous suckitude (suckiness?)?

Oh. Well carry on then.

I am an Alex supporter, but I am not saying "see" at this point. He has had a much better season, but time will tell.

As far as Alex being the cause of the Niner's suckitude, that's the easy way to go. I think it is far more telling that the team is essentially the same as last year, but the coaching staff is not.

Did Alex just suddenly, and coincidentally, get better during the off season, despite that fact that he has sucked for 6 years straight... or is it possible that the team has a structure now that offers him an opportunity to succeed, rather than providing nothing but roadblocks?

Again, I am not ready to anoint him King of all QB's just yet, but you have to admit that the difference from last season is striking.

He's as responsible for their success as Trent Dilfer was for the Ravens winning a Super Bowl.

Watching the Phins is maddening they should be blowing out the Jets but they don't have a QB I could take a dump put a jersey on it and do better then Moore and I'm not even talking about the 100yrd INT for TD because that was obvious PI. I'm talking about his 3rd downs, missing a WIDE open RB that was right in front of him instead throws to a rookie WR who is being blanketed by Reives, then off the Jets TO he misses the RB again WIDE OPEN in the end zone.
Then horrible clock management can't even get a play call in time having to take timeouts then Marshall some how gets wide open and manages to some how fall out of bounds for no reason and then drops his 5th or 6th would be TD.

The Niners are doing better mostly because of their defense and RB.

Frank Gore right now, is less than 300 yards away from hitting what he rushed for the entire season last year.

He's averaging nearly 5 yards a carry. Nuff said. That's why Alex is looking so good. Against the Lions, he averaged nearly 10 yards per carry!

Alex just hasn't screwed up a game (yet). But he has a lot more to prove. He's basically Trent Dilfer right now. As long as he doesn't go Rex Grossman (or just normal Alex Smith) the Niners have a chance to win nearly every game (since their division sucks).

Bottom line:

Alex is "better" with a pretty good defense and a very solid (finally healthy) running game. Frank Gore's resurgence, as a dominate RB, not Alex Smith's resurgence... Surgence... Or whatever they want to call it.

The O-line has improved and the coach isn't a defensive guy. I think having a former offensive player has given Alex and the offense enough confidence to play better. Instead of being a commodity, the side of the team that everyone blames for the franchise's struggles, they're more respected and emphasized.

we'll see how this pans out. Alex is still missing wide open throws that most QBs normally hit. I'm not sold.

If Frank Gore goes out with injury, I think we'll then have a chance to really see how much Smith has "improved."

Will he continue to play like Trent Dilfer and not screw things up? Will that be enough to win without a top 5 RB to bail him out? Or will he revert to his Rex Grossman turnover ways?

So now it's the Colts battling the Fish for the Luck sweepstakes?
The only thing the Fins are battling for is air with their heads so far up their blow holes. There isn't enough words on the internet to begin to describe their sucktittude and my disappointment.

The good thing is you have talent. Long, Pouncey, Wake, Davis, Marshall. A few more guys. If you draft Luck, and do fairly well with your other picks, and can bring on Cowher (you already have the 3-4 in place), you'll make a strong leap.

Yeah if I wasn't so pissed I would've mentioned that, they do have a lot of individual "talent" for a winless team I've seen in awhile and was hoping for at least one of the things you mentioned (Cowher and/or Luck). But I'm too busy wallowing in my own self pity and spitting piss and vinegar give me until later today then I'll start looking to be optimistic.

Well right now, the Colts are the frontrunners as they're the only 0-6 team. You and the Rams are 0-5. There are also five other teams with just one win right now. The good thing for Miami is you have no wins, and you're in a division where all three other teams will be fighting it out for the playoffs, thus giving you a hell of a game when you do play them. The Colts and Rams can't say as much. Those two divisions are weaker, especially the NFC West so the likelihood that those teams pick up a win or two seems greater. I can't speak intelligently about any out of division games though.

Oh question for anybody who feels like answering, they put up a stat that teams coming off a bye this year are 1-5 some of that is mostly bad teams have had bye's but that it also could be the new rule changes to how much teams can practice during their bye. Anybody else have an opinion on this?
