Devin Harris on Al Jefferson: Jazz fans will be surprised if they see him

Big Al doesn't have fundamentals and talent? This is news to me. I always though one of his biggest weaknesses last year were his conditioning and explosiveness. If he can improve those things, they should definitely help him improve as a player.

Big Al is a stud on the block. He is a top 5 isolation player in the pos. he is lacking in a lot of other departments though. his defense has a lot to be desired. i can kind of see the Kanter/jefferson comparison. frankly, i think Kanter will prove to have some mark madsen in him too which will be a good thing; he'll play hard with and without the ball! :)

That's what makes Sepanol's dislike for Jefferson so ironic.

Sepanol I will argue that Jefferson came into the league with more talent then Malone did when he came in. Malone was able to grow up as a b-ball player in a pf friendly system. With 2 good pg's and a good pf to learn from. Malone was on a team that pushed him to get better, he was on a team that with a great system and good coaching. Malone was in a n environment that helped that motivated players desire to want to be better. There is no doubting he came into a great situation. Because of such he new if he wanted to be great and a winner he needed to work to get better, because of this he went from just a big brute bad free-throw shooter no outside game to the greatest pf in the game.

Let's look at Al, he was drafted to a bad celtics team that had clearly given up Thier best player wanted out. Pg play was horrible. There was no offensive system to speak of. This was a first come first serve offense. Then he gets traded to an even bigger black hole. He never had a good pg to play with never had anyone to mentor him never learned the pick n roll never was in a team ball offense.

I'm not a Big Al homer he does things that drive me crazy, but after 7 or so years of that crap is enough to break anyone. I did see improvement at the end of the year, and to hear that he is dedicating himself this offseason, how can you not be happy to know this. After 7 years of the Celtics and Wolves it will take a couple years to learn the winning way.

i said he is very talented but doesnt have fundamentals, i dont know how you guys read what i write, read the previous post carefully pleaseeeeee!

You dont even know if i dislike Big Al, just guys like you rise him to a divine level thats why i give a contrary reaction, he is just Big Al, he is not Garnett, he was given to wolves with 5 other players to fill Garnett's place but he couldnt. Lets face the truth, i would prefer to see a guy like Scola in my team instead, who is pretty productive, and doesnt get paid 14 million per year. Freaking Griffin is supposed to get 14 milllion at the age of 26 not him.
Btw same for your dislike at Kanter, its ironic too. Does anyone question why you love Valanciunas so much even though he doesnt have any relation with our team being a competitor to Kanter in the youth tournaments? So everyone has favourite players, and Big Al isnt my favourite for sure, i dont need to love him just to make people happy

I dont know Malone as well as you, so i am not gonna discuss him, but i know he was chosen to be best defender 1 or 2 times maybe, that means that guy can defend. And he was a very good scorer for sure, i dont know how talented he was, maybe less than Big Al but that means he could use his talent.

When we traded Big Al i was so happy to see a guy with 20 10 on the paper after Boozer is gone. Because jerry's system is based on Pf-Pg pick n roll games mostly. But i watched the guy for 1 year, and i saw that he scored more when he was the first option in the team and made more attempts , not because he improved himself by margin. I dont remember any games, where he helped us win so much. Look at the period where we were beating everyone in the east tour miami , atlanta and else, Millsap and Deron was the main guys there, not him . Of course he scores more than millsap, because he has an obvious body advantage and he is harder to defend but he is paid damn 14 million per year. It is not neglectable, while there is millsap who is eager to get the half, while we have two young studs Kanter and Favors, why so much stuck on Big Al? If we dont have the flexibility to trade him now, when will we have it?
I would understand if we had Dj mbenga, ben wallace and fesenko as a trio, we could do anything to keep it, but we already have so much depth, and Big Al never proved me anything to show he is worth 14 million per year (will be 15 the upcoming year), did he prove to you?

Your making too much of what I said if there is a report that Big Al is working out and working on his game, that can only be a good thing. I'm a big Kanter supporter on this board. Before the draft I even made a post saying if I had the #1 pick I'd have taken Kanter, but as far as this team goes Big Al gives us the best chance to win and be competitive up front. I do believe Kanter and Favors are the future of this team. The fact that Jefferson seems to be more committed this year is good news. You come off as a fan that cares more for your favorite player then the team, and Jefferson is in your favorite players way.

Kanter isnt my favourite player yet, i like hayward and millsap more, just i dont believe Big Al worths 14 million. I dont think he is in Kanters way, if Kanter is good enough as i back him up, he should somehow take some major mins with his performance. And once he proves to be good, i believe Big Al will be very expandable in this team. Only thing is, im thinking about future, now we have a good chance to trade him and get some important piece in return, wouldnt it be good lets say if we trade Big Al for Granger? We already have many big man, we can fill in other spots with better players, a PG and SF (if we dont rely on AK) are the major lacknesses right now for me.

As i said, i dont care for the player, i m thinking about the team, Deron was many fans favourite probably, but somehow most of us forgot him already because we got Favors and Kanter in return and still have hope for future. So if Kanter will suck it up, i will be upset but forget about him soon anyway, but if the future of the team will suck, then it is hard to forget. I just dont understand, why people exaggarate it that i am a homer of Kanter, of course i will be more favorable on him since its my countryman, but that doesnt mean i care about his success ahead of the team.

Scola > Jefferson? Man, really?

Does anyone here love Al Jefferson? As far as as I know, Jefferson probably has the least amount of 100% supports on here besides CJ Miles.

Sepanol, you always say that we can't keep Jefferson and all these other young players. This may be true, but we will be able to for the next two years quite easily.

Jefferson has 2 years left on his contract
Millsap has 2 years left (or is it 3?)
Favors has 3
Kanter will have 4 (assuming rookie contract length is the same in new CBA)

We will be able to keep this 4 man rotation for 2 years. After those 2 years are up, we will have to reevaluate the direction of our big men. Are Favors and Kanter performing well enough to be trusted wtih full time starter minutes? Are Millsap or Jefferson resign-able? And so on. A lot can happen from now to then end of those 2 years.

Not to mention Kanter might suck. So might Favors. Sap's ceiling might be topped out. Al might prove his individual talents are more detrimental to team play than they're worth.

The crazy thing is assuming anyone is a bedrock, or the future, and planning that way. You put the best guys on the floor every night. If Kanter or Favors are so good, they'll force their way onto the floor. You don't assume NOW that they're going to be studs and put proven players out to pasture just to get that assumption going.

Scola > Jefferson? Man, really?
Player you see play 82x a year < player you see play a half-dozen times.

Don't love Jefferson but still think he can be a very good player and a major piece of the rebuilding process in Utah.
Bottom line is an Al Jefferson in better shape with a year of experience playing Jazz basketball should be a substantial improvement over 2010-11 Al Jefferson - and you hope Al plays well, as that helps the Jazz and will increase Al's trade value before his contract expires.

I like Al.

Seriously though. Who thought Sepanol was a guy without an agenda? Dude wants to sell the USA that Kanter is greater than any NBA player. No big deal. At least we might be able to keep Okur.

****, hire the guy already. He'll ship out Jefferson for a 2nd, Sap for maybe a conditional 2nd and play Kanter 48 MPG. Championship.

Man, someone should give you, reading and understanding lessons seriously. Read it once again, i told i would prefer to have because he is paid as half and he is very productive, i didnt even make a comparison, you got it now?
