Is There A Disadvantage In Finishing First?

No, we either play a team that lost a game, then won a game, or a team that won 2 games in a row.

That's not true at all.

The eight seed you will face is a team that has won its previous game. In fact it actually could be a team that won two in a row.
Their previous game, meaning the game before the one they won.

Uhh, you're gonna need a bigger dictionary. One that actually has the word "previous" in it. As it stands right now, you have no idea how to use the word "previous."

Here's what you wrote:
"the team we face is a team that lost their previous game."
No, the team you face will be a team that won their previous game. That's why you are facing them...they won their previous game and moved on in the playoffs.

Throw this one out and spend some bucks on one that has the word "previous" in it.

Hey, you still don't know who you are playing. :D

You know a pitcher on the Yanks threw a no-hitter yesterday. Maybe you should prepare for the Yanks.

We know it's either going to be a young team with little experience or a team where everyone knows who the designated chucker is.

I like our chances.

My Knicks (second best team in NBA) finished in fourth place. We have a week off and we know our opponent - the Hawks. We can study thousands of minutes of film on the Hawks, run play after play in practice simulating Hawks D and O, and if we want we have a whole week to pull a Tonya Harding on Trae Young.

But you Jazz finished in first, most likely will play your first playoff game on Sunday, but won't know your opponent until Friday night! Do you find that wrong? Sure the Jazz have books on the play-in teams, but you really do lose out on a week's worth of simulating practicing and film work against those teams.

Disadvantage to finishing in first?

What are the hawks doing during this time? The same thing the Knicks are doing. No clue how this gives one team an advantage. Every team has the same time to prepare as their opponent.

Uhh, read the thread. The point has been made earlier in the thread that give better coaches time and they will have an advantage over lesser coaches with the same amount of time. Our coach Thibs has already won one Coach Of The Year award (looking at two); he is one of the best coaches in NBA. He and the Hawks coach given the same amount of time to prepare favors Thibs' and his team.

Coach Quin given the same amount of time to prep as coach of Memphis....I'd say the advantage swings towards Snyder. You lost any advantage simply because the one seed doesn't find out who they play until 24 hours before series starts.

You know what, we live in a new time, out with the old and in with the new. LeBron has looked old lately. The refs going give him every call. Just like most Lakers game they are down at half they was in bonus 3 minutes into 3rd. He controls nba and wants a ring so we bout to see if they going let them play or just going to over for LBJ.

The disrespect the Jazz,Suns, and Nuggets are getting is uncalled for. I've seen national writers saying barring injuries he doesn't see how any of the top 3 makes the finals. It's pretty disrespectful but hey he is the King and everyone below him are his subjects. It's bS. If NBA just whistle after Whistle for Lebron to make finals that will be it for me. I'll be done with the NBA and will stick to college men's and women's hoops

Yeah me either but he a New Yorker they just talk to hear themselves. See Stephen A Smith. I do like the Knicks to win series though because of Thibs. Defense wins in playoffs.

The Lakers can't get it done without refs even the last home game they had against Houston, 3 blown calls all against Houston and league released they were all bad calls and Lakers win by 3. This Lakers team looks old. They ant score that great. The way to beat them is to blow them out so they have to work real hard to make a comeback and use energy. Blitz Lakers from the start and I think the Jazz could do this, the sun's could do this, the nuggets without Jamal probaly can't but then again they could. This Lakers team is ready to be lead out to the pasture.

So we can prepare for both of them, while they can't prepare for us at all. It's still our advantage.
Wouldn't even be an issue if it wasn't Lakers and Warriors and normally some other bottom feeder but this year is different and I already know the refs going to make sure it goes one way.just think how LeBron said last year was toughest ever, this year will be tougher cuz they will star at 7 seed. I cna already see what's going to happen

On the other hand, 3 can prepare for 6 but 6 can also prepare for 3
Our opponent can't prepare for us just like we can't prepare for our opponent.

To me it doesn't make a difference.

Even if it made a slight difference, the rest advantage of the new system (IIRC, in the old days it was like a 3-4 day rest from the end of the season to the playoffs) and having home court more than makes up for it.

Nah, I want to see Jazz face Lakers or Steph. You first place Jazz will be bounced in first round.

Ever hear of a guy named Scott Sharp? He's a race car driver who won the pole at Indy in 2001. This is true: he crashed his car on the first corner of the first lap. That will be the Jazz. You grabbed first place (the pole) and all that means is you will crash out in first round (first corner/first lap).

Jazz fans expect this:

What's it like being in a group of Casuals NBA fans? So jazz going lose just becuase you said so? Even if so atleast they don't have to go twenty years in-between playoff appearances. You just a casual who think Warriors and Lakers are so great then why was that game so awful last night? They struggled to score 100. People like you would rip old bball because it's to low scoring but now when it's other way it's all about the great defend Stephen Curry played last night right? Carruso took Steph to school all night long

I'm not the biggest Quin fan but he has to be making a plan to make Curry work on defense. Also get physical with him. We are about to see how good of a coach Quin is in this upcoming series.

Uhh, clearly you have not heard of imbalanced schedules. You can actually be the best team in the NBA and finish out of first.

Or you can use the 2007 NY Giants as an example. That year 10 teams in the league finished with better records than us...that would put us in 11th place. Uhh, but we beat the (undefeated, I might add) New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, that makes us the best team in the league. 11th place and Champions, number one team. See how that works?

It's not about LeBron being in charge. It's just simply following the money. A Lakers/Brooklyn finals will generate easily triple the money of any of the jazz or suns or nuggets in the finals overall, accounting for ticket sales, ad revenue, sponsors, merch, etc, etc. LeBron in the finals will generate 5X just the Jersey sales of Mitchell in the finals. It's not hard to see the league incentive to put a thumb on the officiating scale.
