Following potential 2012 draftees

Barnes can score from anywhere on the court, in any way. Fundamentally he is about as solid as it gets. If Tim Duncan was a wing player, he would be Harrison Barnes.

Hmm...I actually kinda like this. Although, Barnes is NOT totally fundamentally sound when it comes to handling the ball, something that is undoubtedly necessary to him reaching his full potential.

Calling it like I see it. Barnes has superstar potential but is soft/weak/fragile. He needs to get tough.

Barnes IMO is more like pippin in that I don't think he will shine by himself but as complimentary piece.

Except Pippin was a player that made all the others around him better. I feel Barnes is pure offense. Gilchrist is much more of a team guy and making those around him better. I predict Barnes' shot falls this year and he'll go #3. My concern with Barnes, as stated previously, is his lack of mental toughness .. that's a tough thing to teach.

Here's an interesting comparison. Looking back at their freshman campaigns, Jones and Barnes looking pretty similar;

Size
Jones - 6'8 - 250
Barnes - 6'8 - 215

Minutes
Jones - 31.5
Barnes - 29.4

Points per game
Jones - 15.7
Barnes - 15.7

Rebounds
Jones - 8.8
Barnes - 5.8

FT's per game
Jones - 6.4
Barnes - 3.4

FG%
Jones - 44.2%
Barnes - 42.3%

3pt%
Jones - 32.9%
Barnes - 34.4%

Assists
Jones - 1.6
Barnes - 1.4

Blocks
Jones - 1.9
Barnes - 0.4

Steals
Jones - 1.1
Barnes - 0.7

TO's
Jones - 2.0
Barnes - 1.9

PF's
Jones - 2.4
Barnes - 1.9

I suspect their numbers will look very similar this year, though Barnes' shots will be more heavily weighted to the perimeter game. Neither team needs these players to score big this year as they're surrounded by tons of talent.

Just to clarify I didn't say barnes was Pippen only that he can't lead a team. Pippin with out Jordan was good but not great. If barnes goes to a team that needs him to be the man I think he will fail. But if you want to compare players yes gilchrist is or could be a lot like pippen.

Barnes has been praised as being extremely mentally tough and a perfectionist in practice. He is not all offense either. He is a very good defender. He may not put up defensive stats like Gilchrist, but he plays great disciplined man D.

His handle is a minor flaw. I already said I don't think he is going to be a superstar, but neither are any of the other wing players in the draft except for possibly Miller. Barnes is also the most guaranteed player in the draft also.

Also, his stats are slightly scewed as he had a terrible start to the season, then he started playing better in the later half.

Totally agree about Barnes' defense, it's very solid. By all offense (and I said that wrong), I really meant he's more of a pull up jump shooter, lacks a first-step, not efficient in catch and shoot .. which translates more poorly to getting teammates involved than a player with more slashing ability. I should have said his own offense doesn't create much for his teammates.

With those known flaws I don't think you can label him as superstar potential though. He has a good jump shot, but its the least effecient shot in basketball. His NBA three point range is still to be determined, he certainly doesn't launch them from Fredette or Knight range which would indicate distance is irrelevant. If he can't get to the rim one on one consistently his ceiling is probably a rich man's Danny Granger.

He has no data that suggests he's an elite shooter, though I am predicting this year will be different.

This. But a slightly more athletic version of Granger, with more intangibles, is a very good player. All-Star level no doubt. Though, I gotta agree with Xthren...he seems to be the perfect second option for a team. Or say we get him, then I think he would be perfect in completing our balanced attack.

Jay Bilas watches UK practice and comes away seemingly waay impressed with Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.

When do you have time to watch other players since you gotta stay busy paying the players you already have. Lets cut this crap about calapri gets them ready for the nba cuz the truth is they are ready from the start. Calapri is a slimebag also been caught cheating TWICE. Soon it will be a 3rd time. Also i seen you rip on dwill who stayed in school for 3 years and never got into trouble or was getting paid under the table like kentucky players. YOu just keep onm showing why kentucky and there fans are scumbags

You suck at trolling. I laughed. Have a good night.

PKM, don't even reply to this. Let's not let this fun conversation get ruined by a troll.

Sound advice. Can I at least respond to the "Kentucky Education" remark .. considering his every post? Nah .. you're right, I won't even comment.

Thanks for posting.

Gillie is special. Can't believe how overlooked he's been by mock drafts and etc lately.

It's not that he's projected low (he's in the lottery), but I bet he moves up a few spots in the first couple months of basketball.

Nbadraft.net has him outside of the lottery...I know they suck, but still. I've also seen several other mocks by sports writers with him outside the lottery (around 15 or 16)
