2021 NBA Draft Preview (new thread)

Garuba at 25? That draft is wonky.
I have no idea where Garuda is supposed to land and it seems none of the experts do either. Kind of a weird skill set for the modern game but still useful (especially if he can play as a 5).

I think he is in the same tier as Alperen Şengün so somewhere between 15-20.

He is going to be a 5 but I don't think the size is an issue. He plays big and can switch. Great instincts and will on that end. Offense will come slowly but I don't think teams are going to ask much on that end anyways.

Hate Jalen Johnson with a passion

Easily a guy who could fall imo
Maybe, I think that would be a mistake. I thought his draft position would be solidified by now. He is pretty much thoroughly scouted against top competition.

It seems unlikely, but the Jazz moving up in the draft, like when we got Mitchell, would be intriguing. Scottie Barnes anyone? Davion Mitchell? Keon Johnson? The possibilities fascinate me.

Jazz would have to move Bogdanovic as part of a deal to get up to the end of the lottery, imo. Golden State might do that for #14, but the Jazz would have to take back salary. I don't see any way the Jazz would get to Scottie Barnes.

I'd like to see the Jazz be able to move up to one of Houston's picks (#24) to secure Murphy, Roko or Thor.

He's an undersized center who didnt participate in combine, so do we even know his actual measurements? Just seems like the kind of player who could easily keep falling in favor of perimeter players when dudes like Isaiah Jackson go over him.

It's really hard to justify trading Bogey just to get a late lottery pick. There has to be some veteran relief to replace some of his minutes.

I'm not sure I even like anyone all that much who projects to be in the late lottery. If Moody is there I'm pretty excited, nearly everyone else gives me pause when giving up a guy like Bogey.

If the Knicks' staff likes Derrick Favors, they might give us #21 and filler for Derrick and #30. The Knicks are going to lose Taj Gibson and Nerlens Noel. Mitchell Robinson is coming off a broken foot. Derrick could take minutes at the 5. The Knicks have 2 picks at #19 and #21.

That might make some sense. That would put the Jazz in play for Murphy, Springer and Thor, maybe Duarte.

Knicks could then deal #30 and #32 to move back up to the mid-20s, or use one of those pick to acquire additional assets. That would be a good play for them.

If I were the Jazz, I think I'd make that proposal.

Franz Wagner or Moses Moody on lock for me if they can get high enough (I think late lottery should have one there).

No way in hell does Favors fetch an asset.

Did you get the part where the Knicks are losing Noel, Mitchell Robinson is coming off an injury, and the Knicks' staff knows and likes Derrick? And all they have to do is move back a few spots in the late 1st round?

What do you want the Knicks to do, go after Robin Lopez? Noel is probably going to get a deal similar to Derrick Favors' last two years on his deal, and there are several teams going after him.

If I'm the Knicks I do that. Now I've got a guy who can play quality minutes at the 5, and I haven't really compromised my draft position.

If I'm the Lakers, I'd offer #22 in a deal for Favors and #30. Marc Gasol is done, Andre Drummond was unplayable in the playoffs, and I need a guy to play the 5 when Anthony Davis isn't there. Then I'd draft Josh Christopher, Ayo Dosunmu or Bones Hyland at #30. I let Dennis Schroeder walk.

I think there should be some deals out there. The Jazz aren't the only team in a pickle.

Derrick Favors moving you up 9 spots in the first round while taking nothing back but "filler" makes no sense unless that "filler" is bad long-term salary

Bruh you being delusional. At best Favors cost you nothing to move. Favors isnt getting you back any positive value, much less moving you up significantly in the 1st round.

The nicest I can put this is that you are wildly wrong.
