Jazz Offseason Plan

He makes too much for a project. Unless they want Favs and a second for him.
I mean we're going to have to have a few projects that can work out. He's a long wing, and a 2nd rounder would have been worth it. Matt Thomas wasn't exactly anything but throwing the pick away so I would have gladly taken a long wing project. His contract is a bit much for what he's shown though for sure.

Oh definitely on Thomas... with our luxury tax situation that $6M salary is a problem if the kid isn't at least a rotation player. I liked him in the draft okay... the idea of him is something we need. Minnesota is not a great place for young guys to develop... its a good bet if the luxury tax wasn't as big of an issue as it currently is.

I think there's going to be plenty of shuffling on draft day. It will be really interesting for sure.

It sounds as though Mike coming back is a done deal... listened to the Windhorst pod (I have a hard time with him but he has good guests). He and Pelton said something about Conley and were like "it looks pretty good for his return to utah... then Brian said I'm going to stop short of saying... " and then he trailed off. He is really weird about saying stuff because he doesn't want to get aggregated.

So I think it is safe to plan around Mike returning... heard enough stuff there to think Mike has poked around his market and Jazz have communicated their willingness and they likely already have a rough structure agreed upon... there is a ton of assumption in there I know but let's be honest... it ain't like the first calls teams make are the minute after FA opens.
That's good news. I think maybe we can even expect better play from him next year simply from more time in the system and with his teammates.
He was peaking in the playoffs in pretty much every part of his game.
Gotta do everything we can to keep him healthy

I think so too… just hope that all the people saying it’s a done deal isn’t because we’ve offered him 3/100M… the pessimist in me just has to be ready for good news to turn to okay news.

Euroleague guy we should target - Nigel Hayes

I saw rumors that Boston might be wanting to bring him over, we should nab him. 6'8, big body, defends, and plays smart on offense (at least he did in college). The concern for him was shooting, but he shot 44% from 3 in Euroleague last season and has shot 42% over the last 3 years in Europe.

Sounds like a guy Boston is ready to give up on. Thx

Nigel Hayes tweet:

If all he wants is a guaranteed spot, I'd give it to him right now. Would be a perfect guy to try to get a Hinkie special.

I’d be interested in doing that. Hinkie special would be great… maybe he’s Jaesean Tate?

If we cut Matt Thomas to do it I would be willing to break the news to Matt for the front office.

Just something to keep in mind...Joe shot 45% from 3 last year, Bogey 39% and Niang 42.5%. Niang's definitely gone and it's looking more and more likely that one of Joe and Bogey are too. Losing two of those three guys is going to cost us a lot of shooting and could really hurt our offense.

If the Jazz manage to move Bogey's salary for picks and not a lot of returning contract money I'm pretty sure they will be able to bring back Niang.

Do we already use our 30th to get rid of some contract, payed Mike to not play b2b all season or when it counts the most, and used Joe and Bogey to get a couple first rounders to get players we don't need and Coach won't use?
It's all I read out there.
May be I shouldn't read any more.

Said he would be very interested in Frank as a minimum contract. Basically most of what you've said: Getting out of NYK pressure, relationship with Rudy, shares same agent with Rudy, defensive player who can shoot OKish. Worth it for small contract.

He had interesting things to say on Jones, but I can't remember most of it.

Mostly glossed over Jones's non-ability to put the ball in the hoop. Said he could be an Ingles type with playmaking. Said he loved how Jones played, but that he always seems like he's off balance (compared to a young Hayward in that awkward-looking appearance).
