What's new

Free agent frenzy!

If the Jazz can sign him for 2 years (or 3 on a front-loaded super-cheap deal), I think he'd be a good signing. His intelligence and feel for the game could be a huge asset for a young team with a new coach.

Hmmmm, not so sure I agree. Just not sure he's the type of veteran leadership a young team will respond well to .. I'd rather have a vet that listens to the coach intently and plays by the playbook. I'm not as down on AK as others around here, but I would not call him a leader.

Thank you.

Good call. AK has never been a leader. I doubt he would come back to the Jazz after the free-form play he was allowed in his home-town, so to speak. I would be shocked if he came back to the NBA at all after all the accolades he had had in Russia as well.

With as well as he's doing in Russia, I doubt he comes back. But I'd love to have him on an MLE contract. Leader? No... but that doesn't mean he can't help players develop intangibles.

Just say no to AK and Price.

What I expect is to sign Watson as a backup PG.
And to sign a rookie FA PG or wing player.

Jazz don't need front court players if anything they need to get rid of 1 front court player. If we could trade Millsap or Jefferson for a young, starter quality SF that would be ideal. I just don't see that happening before the season starts.

Watson and/or Price.

I'm hoping Harris gets traded. (Pick up Calderon or Hinrich [shooting matters])
I'm hoping Jefferson gets dumped to a team that can absorb his salary.

With such a short FA period, I would think it would be difficult for teams to do trades when they'll be busy filling out rosters.

Yeah, I know. I can't help but wish, though.

Now we come back to the points I've made too many times already: I do not see Harris or Jefferson as being anything more positive than trade bait in a run to a championship for various reasons.

I'm hoping Earl is back. I think Burks can handle third string PG duties.

Burks has the skills to play PG, I just don't think Corbin is going to hang his hat on that right away. I imagine the team wants to go out and sign a 3rd option at that position.

Hayward is more likely to see PG minutes this year than Burks.

And that's fine, but this year is not the year to address that. I would think Jefferson and Harris will have more value next off season than they do currently. The squeeze on the cap and tax doesn't happen until two years into the deal, and the Jazz are in great position that particular off season, so they can swindle some teams and have the salary muscle to constitute those trades.

That actually makes the case to not grab a third traditional PG.
It's hard to know how the Jazz philosophy on roster spots will change with Tyrone at the helm. In years past, Jerry has been a huge proponent of carrying three point guards. It'll be interesting to see what Ty's preference is.

Jerry was also pretty reluctant to play rookies, Ty may not be opposed to throwing them into the fire right away.

Yeah, with Hayward AND Burks, we really don't need to sign a third PG.

Hayward in no way can play PG. Yes, he can pass the ball, but I don't feel comfortable with him bringing the ball up the court and defending PG's.
