He's trying to do too much. It kind of shows they don't trust the offense if they immediately abandon it when they feel like they MUST SCORE. Instead of trusting the offense to generate a good shot they start running purely iso plays. Is the offense too complicated in those scenarios or does the team simply not trust their primary offense? Because it isn't just Mitchell that goes all hero ball at the end. We more or less stop moving without the ball and stop passing which shows that the entire team either just expects hero ball or doesn't trust the offense or both maybe.
Eh, pretty much everybody else that closes games for us in the clutch has a really good TS% except Royce.

It's funny how Mitchell shoots pretty much all the shots in the clutch on this team, and yet I have more memories of Conley and Bojan clutch makes than I do Mitchell.
Donovan was good in the fourth and in the clutch once upon a time. This year has been a different story.

There is enough history between the playoffs and in the past that I think he can get back his mojo.

That actually stresses the point that they don't trust the offense. If they ran their normal offense we'd get better looks and other players would have better shots. But we stop playing our offense entirely when things get tight as if they don't believe in it and instead everyone sets themselves for hero ball. Everyone just stands around watching Donovan.

Donovan has never been good in the clutch.

EFG% and USG% throughout his career in the clutch:

17-18: 45.3%, 42.4%
18-19: 39.4%, 43.7%
19-20: 47.1%, 40.5%
20-21: 42.6%, 43.4%
21-22: 44.8%, 37.6%

It's not a coincidence that this team was relatively fine in the clutch in the Quin Snyder era (REALLY clutch in 16-17 actually), and then from 17-18 onwards they've been consistently terrible. Because it's consistently been Mitchell hero ball.

5 years of this garbage is even more damning on Quin than it is on Mitchell if we're being totally honest.

terrible ending for dm. didn't guard holiday for the quick 2, lost the ball, missed shots. why not let mike takeover?

We really missed bogey tonight. House was 1-3. Then the bench was 6-24 combined. Bogey misses 2 games and we lose em both. I think we beat the spurs and the bucks if he is playing in both games. Sigh
Not only Bogey but also Forrest imo. Particularly on defense. Both guys have been huge for us this year.

Mitchell’s decision making in crunch time is starting to kill the jazz, OMG it’s ill advised shot after ill advised shot and turnover and that foul inside a minute lost the game ultimately. Coach needs to sit him in the film room and watch nothing but these plays. Jazz got no easy shots up down the stretch because Mitchell thinks he needs to play hero ball down the stretch.

Another close game lost. At this point, I'm just hoping we're doing a reverse 2021: instead of a great season and ugly post-season, we'll do the opposite.
Btw, someone needs to tell Donovan that he is 112th out of 136 players (20+ games) in TS% in the clutch. That's bottom 20%. He's dead last among those with at least a 25 usage rate.
Quick edit not-so-fun fact: Out of those 136 players with 20+ clutch games, Royce is 135th in TS%.

This us explains all nothing much to say

What, that Royce shouldn't be playing in the clutch at all and that Mitchell needs to reign it the hell in and start involving his clutch teammates (Bojan/Conley)?

I'm glad some random redditor can figure it out. Now if only Quin could do the same.

I think this is the least fun Jazz team I can remember. A lot of that has to do with expectations. I think hardcore fans are generally happier when their team stinks but it’s expected….but with this team in particular they set themselves up for humiliating defeats over and over. It’s inevitable and obvious.

Bogey is only player who is consistent and not rollercoster like jc or mike lately scoring wise
I love Bogey. always have. Very underrated imo. Still, for defense on big bodied guards like Holliday or even wings like Middleton, give me Forrest. We really missed both guys tonight I think.

Nothing really humiliating about that loss. Bucks are healthy and looking like the team to beat again this year.

The really sad part is you could copy this, save it, and paste it every close loss we have had and will have. It's beyond ridiculous. Maybe we need Gobert to make a comment about how good teams share the ball in crunch time and get good shots. He's the only one with enough balls to do it, even if it's coaches job.
