What's new

Am I the only one who is feeling sad about all this?

The Jazz could have soared but shackled the unicorn through their own incompetence. Sad days man, sad days.

Lack of passion to do the necessary things on court to take the next step as a team. Namely defense by anyone not named Rudy.

As I think on what could have been, and the fun and exciting times we have had with this team over the past 5 years, and even before that, and then reflect on what has happened this year and the obvious outcome we are headed for, I feel at first frustration, but then I just feel sad.

It is sad that we will likely be seeing the last of this team. Frankly this was one of the most likeable and fun to root for teams in Jazz history. The players were all good people, and the camaraderie was infectious at times. The beginning of the end, imo, was trading Ingles, our heart and soul for 7 years. And the collapse was precipitous.

I know it is time to break it up, and time to move forward into something new. We just simply do not have the assets to do anything different around Rudy and Mitchell. Conley's contract continues to be an albatross. Bogey has limited value, as in it would be hard to get anything back worth what he gives us in that he is one of the few that plays hard most of the time and really seems to care. Our end of bench guys are just that, end of bench, and won't bring anything better realistically. We have no one to move and no picks to work with. We mortgaged our future 3 years ago and hinged it all on an aging borderline all-star under-sized guard who has flamed out spectacularly. We have all seen the mistakes in the roster construction, and many of us have been proven right in our criticisms of it. But little good that did. It sucks to be right and see the end coming like this, going out with a whimper and an ***-reaming.

But I enjoyed this era a lot. They gave us a lot to cheer for. For the most part we were the underdogs and that is kind of a fun position to be in. It seems as soon as we turned that corner, and became the favorites, or at least known contenders, we started to fall apart. Maybe this team just works better when they are not the favorites, who knows.

I for one will miss this era of the Jazz. Rudy was such a monster, and it was fun to have him on the team. He had so many legendary blocks and was a rebound machine unlike anything we have ever seen. And it brought me nearly endless joy seeing teams finally catching on that he is the generational defensive talent of this era, and then not even challenging him in the paint. The number of shots he not only bothered, but simply caused to never even be attempted due to his mere presence was astounding. I'm really going to miss that.

Mitchell was capable of such spectacular explosions that when they happened you had to just grin ear to ear. You knew it was coming, at some point he would flip that switch and just go into another gear and suddenly what was a 9 point first half become 29 points scored part way into the 4th quarter. It was awe-inspiring to watch much of the time. I'm going to miss that.

It is obvious from all this we need to move one of Rudy or Mitchell, or more likely both, as there is literally no way to do anything different on the edges around them. So it is kind of sad to say goodbye to this iteration of the franchise.

But in the end, I am a Jazz fan, not necessarily a Mitchell/Gobert fan. I wish them both luck wherever they end up, and I really wish we could find some miracle way to surround them with better talent and keep them here, with a new coach and new philosophy, to see where they can take us with competent FO management. But in all likelihood this is the end.

So with all of the frustration and irritation, I find myself just sad to see it all go.
I don’t at all believe the FO will actually blow this up, so no need to be sad.

The writing has been on the wall too long for me to feel bad about another collapse. Going straight to celebration mode without looking back. We've had a lot of good times with these guys. Quin ended up hurting us, unfortunately. Hopefully we get a huge haul for Don and Rudy and the rebuild will be good times.

With the upcoming All Star game, I doubt you see the team blown up. A few minor pieces will be moved is all. I will be surprised if they even change coaches.

So Tony Jones indicated on Checketts’ show yesterday that there’s zero chance the Jazz would run it back with the same core, but that there’s no interest in taking a step back and the Jazz want to remain a playoff team. Also reiterated that the plan is to build around Donovan.

I am not sure how this is possible. What I suspect will happen is a lot of rearranging of deck chairs on the Titanic with our non-Don and Rudy pieces. As I said before, it will not be satisfying.

That's the saddest part of all!

The championship window has passed and the team is going to enter mediocre hell for several years before things just fall apart and force their hand.

While I am a loud advocate of blowing it up, I am ****ing SAD. I wanted this to work as much or more than anyone.

This build was close but faltered by all of the absolute dog **** moves on the margins. And for that reason, I don't know how they improve or retool.

Couldn't disagree more. Probably the most unlikable team of my lifetime. Seemed like a group of mercenaries. A far cry from e.g. the 2007 team who had major soul

Not sad at all. No emotion whatsoever.

And that’s a serious indictment on how I view this team.

It's really hitting me now that this is the last time we'll see this group together. Rudy and Conley are all likely gone IMO, along with many others. Good chance Quin is gone as well. Truely the end of an era.

Mercenaries? We traded to draft Rudy at 27th overall pick. We traded to draft Mitchell. That was the core and we drafted them, made deals to draft them. Ingles was a HUGE part of this era and we picked him up undrafted and he became a legit NBA rotation player.

This was not a mercenary team.

Last year I loved all these guys. It was fun. They were great. It just fell apart when it mattered.

I'm just worried that the FO brings back some zombie version of this team. Because that's what it would be. This team is dead. Let them rest in peace!

Donovan is not a superstar and it felt like he was never fully in

Rudy... meh

Ingles is our guy. A few years ago I had faith in this group. But this 2022 edition is especially gross. It dying in Joe's absence is appropriate

I mean I agree with this post but it has nothing to do with them being mercenaries.

It sucks, but... Last year it was injuries that de-railed us late in the season and playoffs. This year it was bad shooting and the officiating with the cherry ontop. **** the NBA that was absolutely horrible.
