Do you guys remember when all the smoke came out about Gordon Hayward wanting to get out a year before free agency then he back tracked and was like… “nah we talked and we good”. I’m fairly sure that was Boston saying… “we can get you in a year without giving up anything”.
What would prompt Don to chill for now?
Why is KD not talking to anyone right now?
I think these guys are getting smarter and realize they don’t want their preferred destination to gut the team to get them. Have listened to the Knicks Film school pod a handful of times and I think the strategy on the Knicks side is to wait it out a year… hope their assets improve and get Donovan cheaper or get the next guy. Knicks history with giving out unprotected picks is bad… I doubt this regime wants to repeat the mistake.
We will by October what happens I guess… I’m not convinced we do better than the proposed Heat package in 12 months.
Difference Hayward was expiring while Don has four years left on his deal AND this is Danny "bleeping" Ainge. I can see the Knicks waiting the market out if it's genuinely quiet. However, the hold up is Brooklyn dealing Kyrie and KD. Once that's done, the market will be unleashed, else teams will get tired of waiting.Do you guys remember when all the smoke came out about Gordon Hayward wanting to get out a year before free agency then he back tracked and was like… “nah we talked and we good”. Ego is a big thing in an athlete's mental makeup. Donovan would want to win and win respectfully. I could see the narrative being..see I am winning on my own at the same level as before..blah, blah. I think there is a small but decent chance that the Jazz record could be 4th in the West fueled by Donovan's ego, hard work of the scrubs, and Will Hardy's energy and dynamic.Do you guys remember when all the smoke came out about Gordon Hayward wanting to get out a year before free agency then he back tracked and was like… “nah we talked and we good”. Though by the same token, that deal isn’t going anywhere. And it doesn’t hurt to just play it out for now.We will by October what happens I guess… I’m not convinced we do better than the proposed Heat package in 12 months.

Yeah but this is the half-assing way to guarantee a pick in the 12-16 range. Just good enough to get a crappy pick, and bad enough we are no fun to watch and cannot win anything. That is fan purgatory. We might as well be the Kings. I really hope we do something else, even if it is at the trade deadline. We need to swing for the fences in gathering assets to rebuild asap and make another run with all new faces, imo. This is definitely the way things seem to be trending. All quiet on the trade front league wide.
I’m okay throwing together a rag tag group that Mitchell can lead going into next year. Maybe we deal him at the deadline next season. No harm in seeing what we have.
Even Conley who I’d love to see moved. If he’s not valued right now let him rehab his value for the first half of the season next year. Maybe you get some real assets at the trade deadline for a seemingly rejuvenated Conley.
Assuming actual contention is off the table. I do think my preference will be losing. But that team still wouldn’t be very good. And we could pivot to full tank mode at the deadline if we wanted.
We never saw Mitchell run Jazz without Gobert. I won’t be too upset to have my curiosity satiated.
Hard to saying without knowing what it is.I still think if the NYK package is offered, you jump on it. No sense stumbling into more wins than we need to next season. But, I digress:
Uhhhh… we don’t know that at all. Miami will do something… they won’t wait 12 months.Though by the same token, that deal isn’t going anywhere. And it doesn’t hurt to just play it out for now.
Unless Donovan knows something is happening that we dont in terms of the roster, then there is no way Donovan thinks he can win with this team. He probably thinks he can get a lot of stats and there will be no pressure to play defense.I think a lot of us have been jaded by Haywards fake persona, hair, and smile. I hope DM is not the same and does want to win, and if it’s here, great.
I think we all naturally go to the “fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me”.
We don’t want to be Thor in the Thor / Loki relationship.
Maybe DM just wants to win and thinks we have a shot without Gobert and maybe Quin in the picture.
Am I naive? Maybe.
Hell we don't even need "injury" anymore. They just called it rest last season. Might as well just call it a recovery day. Or a personal day, or spa day. PTO like the rest of the working world. At the rate this is becoming a real thing they might as well reduce the number of games and give everyone extra days off, or extend the season to account for rest.Utah's Hope:
- Statistically Donovan kills it this season. Maybe he averages something stupid like 32 ppg. His insane stats get him in the ASG and he isnt mad because he gets to get his.
- The Jazz still lose a ton because Donovan doesnt play defense, but no one blames him for the losses because the roster is very bad
- Donovan is OK with sitting out games due to "injury"
- A team starts the season poorly, sees his performance at the deadline and is like "damn, we got to make this deal"
