Since NYK is the most rumored team in the Mitchell hunt, let's lay their assets out and rank them. This is kind of a tedious process, so everyone may not be into it, but it's cool to just type them all out and see them in front of you. I'm only including draft picks and players on rookie scale contracts.

New York:
  • 2023 1st from Dallas (protected 1-10 in 2023)
  • 2023 1st from Detroit (Protected 1-18 in 23, 1-18 in 24, 1-13 in 25, 1011 in 26, 1-9 in 27. Becomes 2027 2nd rounder if never conveyed)
  • 2023 1st from Washington (Protected 1-14 in 23, 1-12 in 24, 1-10 in 25, 1-8 in 26, becomes two 2nd rounders in 27 if never conveyed)
  • 2024 2nd from Cleveland or Utah (more favorable)
  • 2025 1st from Milwaukee (Protected Top 4)
  • 2023-2029 1st rounders (Not going to type each one out, but they are tradeable up to 2029, can only take one every 2 years, can do swaps on the years you dont have one)
  • RJ Barret
  • Obi Toppin
  • Immanuel Quickley
  • Cam Reddish
  • Quentin Grimes
  • Miles McBride
  • Jericho Sims
  • Trevor Keels

I don't think Barrett is available - Knicks are happy to give up any other player with guys like Fournier a given because of salary.

In terms of draft picks, I think the Knicks four actual unprotected picks are the baseline. My guess is Ainge wants those and probably another 2023 pick with the intention of flipping it to a 2024 pick with no protections so we can be in that draft. I have a hard time believing Knicks would forfeit six #1's but would love to be proven wrong.

1. RJ Barrett
2. 2029 1st
3. 2028 1st
4. 2027 1st
5. 2026 1st
6. Obi Toppin
7. Immanuel Quickley
6. 2025 1st
7. 2024 1st
8. 2023 1st
9. 2023 Dallas 1st
10. 2023 Detroit 1st
11. 2023 Washington 1st
12. Quentin Grimes
13. 2025 Milwaukee 1st

IMO, in order:

1) Any/all of their unprotected FRPs
2) 2023 Dallas FRP
3) Obi Toppin

Are the ones I'm really excited about.

I have no read on what RJ Barrett will command on his next deal.

You sir did not understand the assignment.

1. RJ Barrett
2. 2029 1st
3. 2028 1st
4. 2027 1st
5. 2026 1st
6. Obi Toppin
7. Immanuel Quickley
6. 2025 1st
7. 2024 1st
8. 2023 1st
9. 2023 Dallas 1st
10. 2023 Detroit 1st
11. 2023 Washington 1st
12. Quentin Grimes
13. 2025 Milwaukee 1st
So you think the Milwaukee pick that has almost 0% chance at conveying is more valuable than Sims/McBride/Reddish/Keels?

Barrett
2029 NY 1st
2027 NY 1st
2025 NY 1st
2023 NY 1st - should be okay, but I'm thinking mid teens, potentially 20ish
2023 Washington 1st - I'm pegging it as a mid 1st in a couple of years
2023 Detroit 1st - similar, with slightly stronger protections
Quickley
Toppin
2023 Dallas 1st - late 1st
2024 2nd - likely to be a decent 2nd
2025 Mil 1st - a lotto ticket, unlikely to convey
Reddish/Grimes/McBride/Sims/Keels - all pretty meh to me, not against their inclusion, but not adding real value, there are unsigned guys just as interesting as any of them imo

Party pooper. Fine.

I think they're all trash. I would rather have that lotto ticket vs. any of the bottom feeders, but the only way it conveys is if MIL looks Giannis for the year and a GSW-like scenario occurs.

Not impossible, but highly improbable.

I get that for Keels/McBride/Sims

But Grimes was a playable rookie and has big defensive/shooting upside and has looked great in SL.

And I don think the other 3 are "trash". All have considerable upside as role players.

Giannis could miss the entire year and they still have one of the GOAT coaches in NBA history with a solid roster. You are talking about a <1% chance scenario to get into a 5% chance scenario.

I think I would value that pick higher than those players too. Think of it like this - yes, this is incredibly low probability event. BUT IF IT HITS!!! It's incredibly high value! Lets say Giannis and Middleton get injured and MKE finish with the 6th worst record or something of the sort. That's almost 40% chance that pick is yours. To me that is probably better value than any of those players... and even the Jazz 2nd round pick.

I guess I kind of get it, but I'd rather just have the players. Maybe I would rank it above Keels/Sims/McBride, but certainly not Grimes.

Not Grimes. Maybe not Keels. He was just picked and is 18 from a top notch program. I’d like to see what his upside is tbh.

I’d love the Milwaukee pick as a throw in, just for the fun and excitement of holding a lottery ticket. . . but not over getting a real, tangible asset.

I just don’t understand how you can say any one of those single picks is more valuable than Barrett.

I can be convinced about some of them. But just in general, it seems like I value NYK's young players much lower than people here.

Nothing. You get it or you dont. New Orleans takes the pick if it falls between 5-30.

I’m fairly certain you’re wrong on this. It’s only protected 1-4. The Pelicans traded it to Portland who traded it to Detroit for Jerami Grant who traded it to the Knicks.

If it lands 1-4 it goes to Milwaukee if not the Knicks get it.

I do think the picks are being overrated here. Making a long term bet against the Knicks isn't bad, obviously, but I think the chances of a pick 7 years from now being amazing is lower than people want to believe. It's also 7 years from now lol.
