Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

I honestly don’t really care that much about their players. I want as much quality and quantity of high-end draft assets possible.

So, sure.
I'd think even if prioritizing picks you want players on good contracts that are useful trade pieces down the line.

I would wanna route one of their rookie-scale guys to LA to try and own LA’s draft from ‘27-‘29. That’s the best use of their value as far as I’m concerned.

According to Stein Heat are trying to find additional firsts and are all-in on getting KD or Donvan.

Herro and Strus can get how many picks? From who? At very least it gives us an offer to tell NY beat it.

Heat fans think Lowry can nab them a first from Dallas if they take Bertans salary back plus other filler.

Herro I’m sure could get at least two firsts from some team.

Would Sacramento give them two firsts? Would Indiana give them two firsts?

McMahon doesn’t think we want to pay Herro or Barrett so I doubt we trade for either of them.

I think there are a couple teams that would do a deal... Maybe Cleveland or Orlando are my best bets.

Orlando sends the pick the own from Chicago for 2023, its top 5 protected this year and top 4 next year, and the Denver 2025 pick they own that is top 6 protected. If one of the picks doesn't convey they give us one of their own in 2026.

Cleveland sends their own picks... likely with some protections. IDK

If you got 3 unprotected picks from Miami 23/27/29 and three swaps, plus Jovic, and the firsts from Orlando... I think that is a legitimate offer you can take to NY to get 3 or 4 unprotected picks, 2 other picks they own and two young players to beat it.

From the Knicks perspective they are trying to have enough to offer for their second trade. If we did 23/26/28 firsts it allows them to trade 24 and 30 next year to open something up. Get those picks, the other picks they own from Dallas, Detroit, Wash... then Toppin/Quickley/McBride sub in Rose instead of Fournier.

Thats kind of the bar imo.

I get the feeling Ainge overplayed his hand. I just can’t shake it. I think he’s legit MJ nuts but you can’t will people into giving the best offer possible.

Nah... if we get into training camp and it isn't resolved we may have an issue. Nothing lost by waiting a few weeks and making NY sweat. I think we could do the Westbrook deal still... I don't think we lose any potential leverage until training camp when things get uncomfortable.

I don't see a way where NY can not make this trade. Whatever DA is asking NY almost has to do this. They have already been catering to DM- they have his best buddy backcourt mate. He is attending baseball games and he's been pumped up to all the knicks fans for quite a while now. They have to do this trade- the pressure is on the Knicks FO.

Enough to take it to the Knicks and tell them to beat the offer. If they protest, say, “what, you think your picks are gonna be more valuable?”
Here’s the other part: it’s legit competitive. You can go to NY and say with a straight face “I’m just telling you that if you pass up this opportunity, heads will roll. Your heads. So if you’re serious you need to beat this and if you’re not then I hope you enjoy watching Donovan on the Heat, in the playoffs, and from the cheap seats the next few years.”

Miami theoretically could get a 1st from Dallas for Lowry while taking on Bertans and sending either Powell or Kleber’s expiring salary our way.

Then somehow they get a 1st for a Strus/Vincent/two 2nds package? I’m not sure.

Herro + Jovic + salary filler from Dallas + 5 1sts + 3 pick swaps is something I’d do. We save something crazy like 15M in this deal too.

Or they send Strus/Vincent + their 28/29 2nds our way instead of Jovic if they can get a better 1st for him?

Exactly- DA also has the luxury of going into this deal knowing he has Ryans trust. The Gobert trade, should give DA all the autonomy to work this trade out however he needs to with Ryans complete support.

Look... I know I'm likely super on my own here... but the Heat picks in 27 and 29 if they got Donovan might be better than the Knicks picks in 27 and 29 if they get Donovan. I know its Miami but Butler is old... Lowry is old... I don't think its crazy, but also not likely. The early Knicks picks will obviously be better than the Heat picks. This is especially true if NY is trying to protect the picks somehow. I think Miami will have zero reservations in giving us 3 unprotected picks and 3 unprotected swaps... Then its Jovic/Yurtseven and whatever they get for Strus/Herro. Those guys should net two firsts somewhere.

I think its ambitious... I doubt they get a first for Lowry, but maybe. I think Strus would be useful in the potential Russ deal though... so you could get some firsts there.
