Preseason Game 1: Utah @ Portland, Monday Dec 19th, 8pm MST

Don't see why people are getting so mad at people critiquing Kanter's game. Yes we all know this is his first game, doesn't mean we can't comment on his game and what he did well/bad.

I think it's pretty obvious that at this point Kanter does not know jack about how to get his shot off as he has probably relied on his mature physique to create space for himself. He is quickly finding out that doesn't cut it in the NBA. Hopefully he can grasp the concept of angles and doing things quickly.

I don't see anyone getting mad. Hyperbole, I presume?

There are plenty of causes for concern regarding Kanter's game, as well as causes for optimism. Some have focused on the positives, while some on the negatives. Both are right .. but to call the guy terrible is as bad as sepanol's blind-homerism.

How many time will kanter be posterized this season? Once a game at least. Can one become more explosive? I think if he can just work on his release he will be fine. It must be quick, because he is never getting over anyone.

My two cents on Kanter. I didn't watch the scrimmage but everyone on the board said it was ugly. Going off that, seeing him play basketball for the first time was enjoyable to me. Yes he lacks an offensive game, but he went after that ball with such vigor that I was overly impressed with him. He will get minutes just to get rebounds and put backs and I believe he will thrive with that game this year. Then hopefully by next year he will get some better offensive moves.

He'll get dunked on, for sure. I don't think he'll ever be explosive (as I stated as a concern pre-draft). I agree, he needs to be more decisive with the ball and go strong. When he was at UK, playing against some NBA guys, and had his confidence, he did this .. and was 10x better than he is right now. Granted, now he will be going against two NBA guys (weakside) .. but he'll get a lot better, faster than most expect. He'll also become a fan favorite once he gets comfortable. <----> He'll work his *** off on the court and he's funny as hell in front of a mic.

Love to have Jazz on again. It's a good day even though we got our ... handed to us. IMO we are right back where we were, Jefferson is a blackhole. Nothing works when he gets the ball down low. He stalls the flow of the game. I think he's a great guy but he needs to figure it out or hit the road.

I've watched two preseason games thus far. Wolves-Bucks and Jazz-Blazers. The Adelman-led Wolves look 10X better than the Jazz. I realize that we're talking about one pre-season game, but I have a bad feeling we are going to be in the division cellar this season.
Wouldn't it be great if the Jazz finished one game worse than GS and pushed their pick to #8?
I'm not too discouraged by one game. The team played pretty well at the end of last season. Corbin is just yanking our chain with that starting lineup.

Haven't shared this yet, but it's a very old-school move to pit the young guys AGAINST the vets. Tonight screamed of that move. Again, it's old-school, but it was highly effective to create some intra-team fighting (uncomfortability). It was used to break down the sense of self-entitlement, at the expense of chemistry, and then once successful, re-build the team chemistry. As neanderthal/risky as it sounds today, it may be a good call for this team. Or ....... maybe Ty just liked playing with his new toy??

And it is not only defensively. His lack of speed and lift will be serious problem on offense as well. He may learn how to seal his defender and get layups and to the free throw line ( he should really study Malones post work from his late years when he was not dunking anymore ). If he will have enough IQ and work ethic to learn it then it may get him half his points in the future otherwise it will be painful struggle with athletic players all the time.

I think we should trade Kanter for Valanciunas as soon as possible

I haven't seen the game , but i have read most of the posts and seen the stats. At first i wasn't pleased by Kanters stats, but there were some good comments about his game (except some Kanter haters for sure). Also i think 5 offensive rebs is pretty good but he should improve his offensive game for sure, and i believe he will because he still has rustyness of 2 years lack of game practise and he has a good offensive potential (post skills, footwork, shooting touch).

It is good to see Favors in a beastly mode, but he shouldn't get carried away, i expect him to put such performances in high competition games, not only pre season.

I always supported the idea to trade Harris and Jefferson and i still have the same opinion, though lots of people contested me by getting hoodwinked of his performance at the end of last year. But it wasn't a real indicator, the real indicator will be this year. I hope i am wrong and these two guys will put amazing performance to lead us upper in the west but that is very unlikely to happen for me. They just aren't good enough to play major roles in a contender. Letting Big Al stay doesn't help Favors and Kanter improve but just block their improvement. I think Favors, Kanter and Millsap should get major mins and Memo should come off the bench. As good as i know he can't be a major piece in this team, it is not gonna bring us any good to leave him for amnesty, he can provide some help from the bench in busy schedule.

Briefly, i wanted to say that it is just a practise game and it is nonsense to write comments like, why he didn't play more why he played less blabla. It is just a practise game and everyone should get equal chances. We aren't gonna have extra credit in the league by grabbing one more win in pre season game so lets just see who plays good and evaluate them. No one is expecting a championship this year, but at least we should find a good system to work all the young core players in a harmony so we can create a contender team for future.

This was the opening game of the year, and i wish everyone a fun nba season !

Nice post sep. I will say that Kanter will be great, imo, but it's not going to come this year. He'll be a great rebounder this year, a reliable scorer next year, and start to put it all together the year after. Again .. my opinion.

The Turk and the UK supporter...

Credibility------------------------------------------------------------------------------->

I take exception. I have provided the pros and cons of each HS and college player without bias. Oh wait, am I having my cred questioned by "Darkwing Duck?"

... carry on ..

If all you see is Kanter Getting A Rebound, or Kanter Fighting Inside, then you're not seeing anything. Yeah, he can do those things. And he shows a lot of potential being a good inside player. But he's so bad defensively that right now he isn't worth having on the court.
The same can be said for both Memo and Big Al, if we're going on just last night's game. I would have been thrilled if either of those players did anything positive last night (like, say, Kanter with his rebounding).

Some people still insists to not get it, but both Kanter and Favors will be much better players than Jefferson, Memo or Boozer , and i am not talking about stats, i am talking about real contribution and being team players.

Wow, that's some impressive optimism.
I think it's worth pointing out that Devin Harris had only 2 assists and Al Jefferson had only 3 rebounds. Something isn't right here.
Raja Bell was invisible, just taking up space, except for the couple of shots he got on kick-outs.
CJ Miles showed some potential, but didn't get many touches. A guy like him needs to warm up and stay hot.
Okur didn't even try to defend or rebound against guys who were quicker. He was Boozer-esque out there.

I think the Jazz should hand over the keys to the younger players sooner rather than later if the vets don't execute better. The team used to rely on one-dimensional role players and a dynamic point guard. Now we need to play multi-dimensional players like Burks, Hayward, Miles over players like Raja and Okur. Josh Howard and Paul Millsap could be all the veteran presence we need.

I'd like to see Favors, Hayward, Burks and Millsap on the floor together. Play Favors/Kanter when you want to go big. Play Favors/Millsap when you want to go smaller. No way the other team can keep both Favors and Kanter out of the paint and off the glass.

Evans - Needs to see 5 minutes every nite for quick points and energy. Love his game. He is fun to watch. May even earn up to 10-15 mins.
Hayward - You can tell he feels more comfortable, almost too excited it is not last year. (I think he was intimidated by Dwill, Sloan & NBA) I hope his bulking up did not impact shot, may take a few games. He is driving well, but his mistake is he is getting caught in the air with nowhere to pass. 2 TO's as a result of jumping with no place to go :) He will be fine. I actually like his Defense and feel he will get 6 pts a game from quick run the court points. (like his 1st 2).
Favors - WOW. WOW - Dwill trade looking AWESOME considering he was gone after this year.
Burks - Very impressed. Does not seem intimidated by the game.
Harris - Ahh. I do not like his play. He is too out of control for me.
Bell - Veteran, Nice Guy. Needs to play backup minutes. Not worth starting over developing youth. Not worth the trade off.
Okur - Ahhhh. No.
Al - What offense we gonna be ? Motion or dump the ball into Al and watch ?

We have a lot of good peices, but I do not see the puzzle yet.

Offense - Do we have one. WAY too much standing around. Wings not involved consistently.
Defense - Can we box out please. They have our wings bolting for the fastbreak instead of making sure we get the ball 1st.
