The reason people are attributing this stat to teammate effects are doing so because gay doesnt do anything well and does many thngs horribly. He isnt a good defender, he has no hustle (you never see gay on the floor for example. Dude absolutely wont dive for a loose ball), he cant shoot, doesnt get to the free throw line, isnt a playmaker, isnt a good rebounder. He shoots 34% feom the field, 24% from three and 69% from the line. He is old, lazy, and sucky.
What is that he is good at?

And yet his net rating keeps rising

Collins isn't Lauri. He just occupies a lot of the same space Lauri does. He doesn't have the near the talent level. He's never been a passer in his career. He currently can't shoot. It's wild how many excuses people are making for him

Ya but boylen is a different human than hardy and the bulls and cavs are different teams than the jazz.
I have seen him play the 4 this very year on this very team and look great doing so.

Fair enough. I dont remember a game where he played extensive minutes at 4 though.

Just checked, and he has played with Beasley and Clarkson at wings for 207 minutes. So more than I thought.. but still not extensive.

100 with Conley at PG with netrtg of 5.2
60 with Sexton at -5.1
47 with THT at +34.1.

Cannot get his personal stats from those minutes, but the offensive rating of that lineup looks stellar with Conley (defense sus though), while defrtg looks decent with Sexton (off terrible) and obviously those THT minutes are outlier numbers due to small sample.

He has a different "net rating" in mind than you do. I wouldn't take the BR's net rating too seriously, in any case, but it's largely based on individual stats. He's referring to net rating in terms of +/- (how the team performs with him on the floor), which is arguably the most important stat (though vulnerable to small sample size, teammate effects, opponent lineup rotations). Here Gay is blowing everyone away. The Jazz have scored nearly 15 points more than the opponent/100 possessions with Gay on the floor. The next closest rotation player is Markkanen, with the Jazz outscoring opponents with him on the floor by 5 points/100 possessions. The Jazz are 22 points worse/100 possessions than the opponent when Simone is on the floor.

Now there's no guarantee that these numbers will hold in the future. In fact, I think they're unlikely to do so. But there's also no denying that the Jazz have done well with Gay on the floor this year, so far.

(By the way, those who attribute this stat to teammate effects, as I've seen some try to do, are still not accounting for the facts that Gay is both higher than all other teammates and also considerably higher. It doesn't seem logical to argue that your teammates are carrying you if you end up way higher than any of them.)
I'm aware which stats he is talking about. I would disagree it's the most important. It's more a product of who he is playing with and against. 99% of stats say he sucks and my eyes and pretty much everyone eyes agree.

I really question whether we win that game if Sexton is still unavailable. He was our spark plug and I feel like he inspired Beasley (so loose he’s sleepwalking half the time) to get going as well! When they’re clicking as they were in the first half, the Wizards are a good team and better than their record. Anyway those three goaltended buckets by Sexton first half was next level superhero $hit, and had to be psychologically devastating.

The Sexton, Beasley, NAW trio has a chance to be pretty special. They compliment each other very well and most opposing teams can't match that firepower off the bench. As far as Sexton goes if we can get him to just slow down a little bit and pick his spots a little better then he could take his game to another level. His quickness and shooting ability are already in that top tier but isn't quite their yet.

Yeah, I guess I’m higher on him than most in that I’m ready to see what he and Clarkson can do as a starting tandem. (And if Clarkson continues to slip, he and Beasley or even NAW.) He has that in your face persona that most the team lacks. Definite Alpha IMO even with the occasional brain farts like that tie up foul on their big, lol. Overall though the staff has done an amazing job of getting him out of his own head imo.

Closer to special education than special.

I agree that I would like to see him starting. He played great when filling in for Conley and he was working on all the different aspects of his game. When coming off the bench he constantly has that instant offense, ultra aggressive mentality which is what you want from a 6th man but I don't think it is ideal for developing his all around game. In the end that may be the role that fits him best but at such a young age I'm hesitant to make that his primary focus right now.

We’re going to need a team leader come playoff time and I’m sorry but I’m not really sold on either Clarkson or Markkanen or even Conley for that matter actually being that guy! Sexton is ready to be that guy, the same one that almost single-handedly beat a college team three on five. I say it’s time to hand him the keys and let him get behind the wheel!

lol, that stat is so trash for individual players.

Brings me back to the 14-15 season when Elijah Millsap and Dante Exum led our team in net rating and people drew all kinds of hilarious conclusions.

I think Sexton is the sparkplug. But I'm not sure he is a leader yet. Too green. Markkanen aint that personality type, and neither is Clarkson. Both get guys pumped up but they aint gonna take over the huddle.

Has to be Conley at this point. He calms us down when we get antsy. I just wish he got his stroke back. Been hard to watch post injury...
