Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

I don't mind moving any of the vets for first round picks, but I also think we should explore the second draft type guys...especially if we're looking at bad first round picks (which is likely). Take a swing on guys like Collins, Hachimura, PJ Washington etc.

I think that it will important for the franchise to foster talent and make improvements in house. Draft can't be the only way to improve.

I wonder what Indiana is thinking on Chris Duarte. Wonder if Vando for Duarte straight up or with a second would be a deal they consider. Struggled coming back from injury and is a bit of an afterthought when all of Haliburton/Hield/Mathurin/McConnell are all healthy. If we found a home for Beasley I'd be a fan of getting Duarte on a buy low type of deal.
I heard rumblings that they have discussed Duarte and 2 protected firsts for John Collins. I dont know why Atlanta would do it though, since they claim to be in win now mode.

Our deals would land them Beasley + Vando or Levert + Vando (the proposed trade with Cavs has Beasley going to CLE and Levert going to ATL). Thats much more of a win now move.

They could flip the picks for players that are better fits I guess... but that would take some time. If the choices were give a pick with Collins to get Beasley and Vando or get Duarte and two late picks... I'd choose the Pacers package and see what else the trade exceptions and picks could land.

I stand firm that Ainge will not do the Collins deal unless he gets a real draft asset with JC.

At 46% from three and 95% from the line I’d be willing to bet there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell that Kennard is included in any deal for Conley.
He plays 22 minutes a night and only 15 minutes a night in the playoffs because of his defensive limitations. Its a bigger deal for a contender. I think they would rather do RoCo or Wall. I think they likely want to keep Jackson but could be wrong there.

I don't think he's off limits at all.

Clarkson can singlehandedly win someone a playoff game if he gets hot. I'm surprised we're not hearing more about teams trying to get him.

What does Portland do? I can see this summer being the big pivot for them if they don't want to pony up for Grant and Hart and instead opt to trade Dame and rebuild... I'd rather pursue a guy like Hart than John Collins... but this might be a convo to have in the summer.

Now all of you who are just flipping all our players to picks explain few things to me.

If we are left with our untouchables and scrubs only then:
1) Who will we develop with the minutes we have? G Leaguers?
2) If we keep Lauri and Kessler.. will we be able to still lose enough to sink low enough so that it matters
3) If we give away all our NBA ready player assets and are left with just draft picks and untouchables.. how are we gonna deal with anyone in the offseason?

Before anyone answers that we can use our draft picks like currency.. please dont. It only works when dealing with clear rebuilders. You need tradable players to be able to deal with contenders... and this parity leads me to believe 80% of the teams will go into next year thinking they have playoff chances.

I bet Clarkson is actually the hottest trade commodity in the entire league since his contract is so easy to match in a trade and so many teams need that extra scorer. The issue as of now is likely that Ainge is doing his usual thing and probably asking for 2 unprotected 1sts. Depending on how the next couple weeks go we may become more motivated to make something happen.

If I were the Clippers, I'd want Clarkson playing off of Kawhi and PG instead of Reggie Jackson, John Wall and Luke Kennard. Norm Powell too. I think Clarkson can be your third guy.

We won't flip all of our vets... but some of them for sure. Let's assume we miraculously traded Mike, KO, Beasley, Vando and I will answer your questions

1- NAW, THT, Sexton, Ochai, Simone and yes lets look at a G Leaguer or two
2- Yes... only have to lose a few extra games and our shot at a top 4 pick goes up like 5x - 8xish.
3- We will have some latitude to sign FA in that case. No need to do a massive trade this offseason.
4- Your currency assumption is wrong. Huerter was traded from a playoff team for a measly protected pick this offseason. Even if we only deal with "clear rebuilders" those rebuilders have good players we will want. So yeah... currency is good to have.

I have a question... we keep all our vets... we draft 3 new guys... where all these roster spots gonna come from. How will we participate in FA with no open roster spots? How will we get dev time for those rookies and young players?

You are being overly dramatic. Even if we trade Conley, Clarkson, Beasley and Olynyk we already have young players showing potential that we want to develop with those minutes. Also in most trades we are going to be taking back another guy or 2 plus a draft pick. Depending on the age and contract the players we take back may have a future here as well.

Clear teh decks.

Clear teh decks.
At least some of them... if you can get value for all of them then go ahead. Realistically we trade 1-3 guys and get a pick and maybe a guy we want to keep. This offseason you have dead salary of THT and Gay to attach (plus others you acquire) to attach to a pick to do a sign and trade or just a straight trade.

Draft picks are the most flexible asset there is in the NBA... the more flexibility we can get the better. The players we keep under contract mostly decline in value as their contracts get shorter as time passes. Capture and preserve the value they have now and in an asset that is more flexible. Its not that hard to understand.

Some of you act like the player and his agent have no say at all in what happens to them in trades or roles on teams. What the guy wants matters even if it isn not the final say on any GM's decision. This stuff is not as simple as who fits the best on your pie chart either.
If Clarkson wants to go to a true contender NOW for example, as expected, Danny is going to do everything he can to accomodate him, even though he is just as likely to move him if he wants to stay , because he doesn't want to stay if he isn't paid etc.

OKC isn't perfect but some of the things they have done are great. Just by having some roster spots and playing time available they found some gems/keepers like Dort, Williams, Muscala while flipping vets for picks. They also were able to weed out some guys by seeing what they can do... We don't know what we have in Simone, Doke, and the 2 way guys... haven't seen them at all... so do we continue with them? Its a guess... churn the back end of the roster a bit and you can find some gems.
