2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Dude is huge. Not sure how to parse 40% on threes with 60% free throws. If he is/became a good shooter... damn.
It could be the Wilt-effect. Wilt was a better shooter a few feet further than the free throw line. His incredible strength messed with his free throw shooting but it helped with longer range shots. Maybe it is similar with Jarace Walker. Is he known to be super strong? If so, then maybe I would discount the free throw rate and look what he is doing from 3 instead and just live with it.

I am leaning strongly towards wanting Jarace Walker as "the guy" to get realistically in the top 6 of the draft. That rebounding and defense plus the 3 ball is what this team needs.
My favorite in the 10 to 18 range is Sensabraugh. Offensive skill like that despite his flaws could work really well in a team concept. You have defenders around him, it could work well.
Yeah, that's what I want in this draft - Jarace and Brice. Get a point guard through a trade or a signing or a late pick. Man, I wish we still had NAW.

Jarace has 57 FTAs in 26 games. Yeah, it would be nice if he made at least 5 or 6 more of them, but the sample size isn't enough to draw much of a conclusion. He should be able to shoot at least in the 70s with some reps. He's got touch on his mid-range jumpers and floaters.

My only concern with Jarace is that he doesn't keep getting heavier and hurt his mobility. You'd want him to be able to zoom around the court as a defensive disruptor and explode more as a finisher on the other end.

That flaw I think is manageable. Full time staff helping him work on his body could help him. I think I found the player I am loving in this draft near the top.

Jarace seems to be a worker so I'm not really concerned about him getting too heavy unless he gets a stupid coach and front office like Lauri had with the bulls that push for him to bulk up to play the 5. The more I watch of Jarace the more I like his game. He is constantly showing a little bit more of what he can do while a lot of these other guys are stagnating or just really inconsistent. At this point I have a hard time imagining him getting out of the top 5.

i agree 100% with the first four tiers. 80% with rest of it.

This sounds bad but I also don't want a player that is better than Lauri because when he felt he had to be the number one option then he exploded. I think the Jazz should get lots of depth and lots of Robins for this team, flaws and all. That's another reason why I wound want Jarace and Brice in this draft.

If Kessler can develop that Marc Gasol 3pt shot, then the Jazz already have a stretch-5.

Still looks kinda goofy to me. I will go ahead and say Kessler is never a three point shooter. I swear this happens so much fans get all hyped about a dude knocking down a couple threes. Every ****ing one of these guys can shoot. I played in a league with Robert Swift a few years back... dude shot the **** out of the ball... empty gym he was like 90%.

Walker is 54% from the free throw line... I would be shocked if he ever got to 35% on any kind of volume. By all means give it a try but he should probably rework a bunch of the mechanics if he is going to do it.

i tend to agree about the mechanics. they don't look bad, but they look off and not sustainable in terms of ever taking and making regularly in games. but it does underscore how effing ridiculous nba dudes are at shooting when a guy who simply can't shoot the three in games walks into an empty gym or a pick up game with normal people and can't miss.

Toothpaste is out of the tube on Lauri... it ain't going back in. I think the big benefit of Lauri is he can survive/thrive on a usage amount that would allow for a number one to do his thing still.

Its not bad up top but the step in and load is slow. A big guy that steps into the shot like that is gonna shoot a lot of long twos. His free throw has a bit too much going on for me. It starts at like his hip. I'm cool with him working his *** off on it. I'm also very skeptical it gets there.

Imagine what Lauri could do if someone else on the team have more gravity. Teams wouldn't be able to focus Lauri as much.

That was how everyone reacted to Giannis on draft night 2013
Who? as in I don't see it. Not Who? as in Who? LOL Dude sucks and is not a NBA prospect smh
Marvin Williams #2 , Bennett at 1 got those responses, yet both were decent college players. You really think "everyone" was surprised the Greek freak fell to the Bucks playing against nobody? Every gm saw something there, but none of them had the balls to take the risk. Looking back I might say who the **** was it that passed on him if they had more intel.
So you think gm's now should be willing to take the risk on this meh french baller, cause he is the next Giannis? I hope you are kidding.
The fact is if he wasn't on the same team as a multi generational legend in the making, you would be saying the same thing if he even got drafted as you did when Giannis did apparently.

I actually remember a few jazz fanzers who wanted us to draft him.

Problem with Giannis going sooner back then, was playing against nobody good made gm's into big fat wimps. Bilal is a terrible player and at best a punchline if he is more than pick 56 stash that never sees the nba besides delivering bagguette bricks inside 3 feet

I'm curious to know where you differ. It definitely gets fuzzy for me after the top of the draft.
that basically means i hardly differ at all. because after those first four tiers it becomes so convoluted and opinions can change pretty much day to day. but let me look at your list and i'll tell you the more significant disagreements...

so i don't have coulibaly ranked - if i learn more about him, maybe i could be convinced top 10.

i'd move jordan hawkins all the way up to that 7 spot.

thompsons at 9 and 10 or 10 and 11.

basically trade places - rupert and hendricks put them in the 11-12 range with howard and sensabaugh - put them late teens, (they are both dropping).

you have clowney higher than i would - i'd have him about mid 20s.

I also don't have nick smith ranked.

but at the same time i see where you are coming from as well. and none of those are huge disagreements.
