2023 NBA Draft Megathread

That's a pretty good comparison for him, he's playing well in the G-League but gets lost in the Scoot sauce.
He just got so much hype last year as a point forward them came out at the Combine and looked kind of trash. Maybe he can develop into that, but right now he's more like energy big with a fastbreak skillset. Jared Vanderbilt could have been really good if he wasn't so bad at finishing and had any size. That's what Miller could be plus maybe more if he figures out the jumper.

Wont be 20 til late November. I'm guessing he rises come draft time. GLeague guys just have a hard time getting hype cuz no one really watches.

Only problem our next 5 are OKC, SA, SA, @OKC, @OKC.

Realistic worst case is maybe 2-3, but 3-2 is probably more likely.

After that our schedule gets a lot tougher though.
Could definitely lose all 3 OKC games. Losing a SA game would be clutch

Yeah he doesn't seem to have the playmaking to be a point forward but he's an excellent rebounder and has flashed as a defender. Ideally he'll be someone that can guard 2-4 depending on the situation.

Which is funny because the comp is better overall, IMO, than college and actually looks much more like NBA ball than college.

I've watched more college BBall this year than maybe any other, and its wild that its called the same thing as NBA ball. The style of play is so diff and you really have to squint to see how a dude will project. A lot of times some really talented dudes look so much worse with college spacing and flow than they do in the league.

The G League at least seems to run more NBA style sets so you see how those dudes project in that setting and against borderline NBA talent.

OKC can blast us away but they are also inconsistent outside of SGA who is great every night. So 0-3 is unlikely. They also sold on deadline... so dont know if they are hell bent on winning these games.

SA has looked so rough the few times ive seen them... their average margin of defeat is also like 15 points... but there is always hope Malaki Branham or Vassell goes off on us.

I think 1-4 is pipe dream but 2-3 could happen.

This draft is different too because 4 of arguably the top 5 dudes in the draft aren't playing college ball so we haven't seen a ton of them.

College ball has been absolute dog water this year.

Not going to look it up now, but haven't the Spurs pretty much had their way with us recently?
I think we played them once this year and lost due to horrible bench stretch late in that game. Its one of their few wins this calendar year (they also started hot).

Because he looks so young and he is kind of a gunner I keep seeing Anfernee Simons... which is fine but its tricky to build around that type of guy.
He actually reminds me quite a bit of Eric Gordon with the way he moves and his compact shooting stroke.

EG was a tank though. Early athletic EG I think is a way better prospect than George. Dude was kind of a monster until he had a bunch of injuries.

If the Blazers/Wizards/Raptors win their next game we'll already be at 9th IIRC. We're 1.5 games ahead of the Lakers, 2.5 games ahead of the Bulls, and 3 games ahead of the Pacers. Hopefully those teams get hot down the stretch.
Yeah it will be close... I think the Pacers and Magic are basically out of reach... Bulls are absolute garbage and look like they have completely given up and are miserable. I wouldn't bank on us passing either of those squads. They others are realistic and maybe even probably.

If I had to guess today I think we end up 9th.

I'd be content with 9.

Same. 9 is a weird spot though. Right on the edge of the highest upside dudes, but also right there to maybe grab a dude that slips or go with a more sure thing like a Cason Wallace/Grady Dick type but lower upside. Very interesting spot in this draft.

I think at 9 you could likely make a move up to 5/6 if you really have your heart set on someone.
I dont think I would. I like the guys in that range, but I dont think anyone is a surefire star.

I still think all the future picks we hold are more valuable in a trade. Just get the best possible rookies. Dont think you have to get a star in the draft.

If it's just the Wolves+Jazz pick to jump like 3 spots to 6th is that worth it?

What player would have to be available at 6 for it to be worth it? Got to think it's a certainty Scott/Wemby/Miller/Amen are gone.
