Official Utah/Minnesota/Philadelphia Pick Watch

Dallas is a full **** show. They double and triple down on stupid. Luka gone in 18 months.

Think about this summer... they either max Kyrie out or he bounces. Then they have what to fill out the rest of the roster? If Kyrie signs a max deal you have the most unpredictable bipolar star in the league and are subject to his whims.

Good luck Mavs.

Man, this Mavs **** wreaks. Making the play-in is plausible. They have to win out, but they only have to beat a fully load-managed Bulls and the Spurs while the Thunder have to beat a Memphis team that could still be playing for seeding.

The Mavs also have the potential to catch us if we win out and they lose out, though it seems Lord Ainge is done leaving any **** like that to chance. Wish he would’ve earlier but oh well.

imo, no.

I'm on the they-should-radically-change-the-lottery bandwagon. Have much flatter odds.
And pure luck handing already-good teams blue chippers? That will just lead to teams tanking themselves out of the playoffs and less parity.

I really think the simplest and fairest solution is to prevent teams from drafting top-3 or top-4 in consecutive years.

Was wondering for a while if the Thunder would be the first team in NBA history to tank the play-in game, to make sure that they're still in the Wemby mix (even at super-low odds). But with the lineup they played against the Jazz, I'm guessing they won't be doing that.

You won't stop all tanking, but you could do a few things to curb some of the tanking... anything extreme likely has more unintended consequences that would be worse.

I think moving up in the draft two years in a row or if you make it once in three years or something... would be good. Wouldn't prevent this instance though. You could also aggregate records over 2-3 years... or you could have losses count from games 1-60/65 towards your lotto odds... after that its wins or it smooths out or use some other weighted lotto average that makes it hard to game the system.

My idea is to get rid of the 1-14 lottery altogether. Make it 1-30, with better odds for the worse teams, but not so good that tanking seems to be an obvious choice. There's enough smart people out there to figure out what the sweet spot would be for those graduated odds.

But I don't mind the idea against drafting top picks in consecutive years in some form either.

This is setting up to be a disaster. Imagine Luka is cooking in the first and wants to play more... Kidd says no or gets stank eye from Cuban... Luka is pissed and makes a scene. Just feels like it'd be better to let him play and pull him late or extend the minutes he sits rather than doing this weird method.

Get your popcorn ready.
