2023 NBA Draft Megathread

A few observations at this stage:

1. Trade the F up and get the guy we want. I am all in. And Cam seems like the best option.

2. If we stay at 9, there are a bunch of guys I could be talked in to - Bilal, Hendricks, Black, Dick, Ausar. So staying at 9 without giving up an asset is comfortable. I dont think I move up 2 spots and give up an asset to do it unless I get Cam. We arent on the outside looking in and desperate to move 2 spots.

3. 16 feels the same. Hawkins, JHS, Cason, Dick or others that slip all feel like good options so I don't NEED to move up.

4. 28 feels like there will be some great pickups that fall. Miller, GG Jackson (although there are red flags on both), Murray, Lewis, Podz all pop out. Again, I dont see any reason to give up an asset to move this pick to slide up a couple of spots unless it is for Cam.
I think this is by far the vast majority of jazz fans feelings. Good post. Hopefully Ainge feels the same way.

People that hate Locke tell on themselves. Sure, he’s a shill and he has cringy takes but does that invalidate everything he does?

I legit think the hate he gets (different from legitimate criticism) is a sapling of this country’s deep-rooted tradition of anti-intellectualism and homophobia/misogyny.

“But he’s not a jock and he sounds like a girl/*code word for gay person because the fun words aren’t acceptable to say anymore*!” Neato.
Its not that at all for me... its more when he authoritatively declares things with very little insight or anytime he talks trades or cba stuff that I roll my eyes. He also has some other kinda cheesy cringe at times. Generally I am fine with him. He produces a ton of content and I am amazed at his consistency with that stuff. He's also a grinder so I respect that as well.

To speak to the jock thing... he did have a run where he was shooting a free throw in every arena or something like that... and watching his jumper I was like... oh... he's never played like at all. I think there is a perspective that comes with playing at least recreationally that he lacks a bit.

Lol yeah, I don't think anyone brought it up, but at one point he was watching Dick and he was concerned by how much he touched the bottom of his shoes. So yeah I don't think he played basketball all that much, but he's obviously been watching the sport for a while and has access to very smart people so he mostly knows what he is watching.

He also had a podcast where he was like "no one is talking about this CBA thing and its so crazy" and he was so, so, so wrong that he had to spend the next pod walking it back and apologizing.

Its fine to have blind spots... its when you talk like the smartest guy in the room about thing you don't understand that I have the hardest time. Its more fun to be bombastic so I get it... but also opens yourself up to criticism.

I remember last year he was talking about potential trades and just had no clue how they work or salaries or CBA stuff… like at all.

I'd say 70% of the posters here have a better handle on that stuff than he does. There are times he needs to bring in someone else... and trades/cba stuff is very much one of those times.

If Whitmore somehow dropped to #9 its because there is some kind of unknown red flag. A dude with his profile should be nowhere near #9 in this draft. Not to say I wouldn't be thrilled if we got him there, but there would definitely be a reason that he fell. It will have to be a trade up if he is the level of prospect that he seems to be.

I wonder if an offer of #9, LA pick, Ochai is enough to entice Detroit for #5. Seems like a sweet spot for us as Cam or Amen would likely be there.
But that is pretty pricey... He would have to become a damn good player to justify that trade.

I've always been confused how they measure hand width too. I know length is the where the wrist and hand meet to the tip of the middle finger, but is width just pinky to thumb? Maybe I just have a super long thumb, but if I spread my hand my pinky to thumb is 10" which is the same as dudes who are like 6'8 in the NBA. So does hand width just come down to how long your thumb is?

Not sure if this has been posted already, but I saw on reddit that Whitmore has pretty small hands relative to his height...
Not sure if this is indicative of anything but just interesting
Draft Combine Stats
I honestly wouldn’t worry about it at all. He gets steals and deflections. Ain’t like he can’t palm the ball.

If your hand is only 8 inches wide I don't think you can palm the ball, at least not with any kind of control. If the measurement is true and not something he just sandbagged by not fully spreading his hand, he probably has to palm it with his wrist on dunks

It won’t be cheap to move up. It’s usually only cheap to move up in the top ten if the draft is ***. This draft isn’t ***. Cam will go top 5… you’ll likely have to make a strong offer. I’d rather go 1 future pick and Ochai than give two future picks but if you don’t believe that Ochai is a future AS then you get labeled a hater. I could see teams more interested in a young player that is already ready to contribute… since they are trying to improve next year.

I’m not even 6 feet and I can palm a ball. Ain’t worried about this at all.
