2023 Trade Rumors and Gossip Involving the Jazz

Yes we got lucky because we also gave Rudy the supermax. Are Kuz and Zingis gonna get supermax? If you can trade a guy with supermax, there's no reason you can't trade Kuz & Zingis with just regular max dollar in exchange for positive assets.
Good. Because I think the Jazz should sign Kuzma this off-season. If they have to trade him later, he’ll still be a quality asset.

Those trades also broke the market. Not just perceptions, either; they materially took two teams’ entire ability to trade 1sts off the board for two years. The scarcer that picks become, the more valuable they are perceived. There’s also a pendulum effect where when momentum swings it might swing too hard. The Jazz trades forced a pendulum swing such that picks might now be overvalued.

TLDR; The Wizards screwed up that situation and sometimes the best thing you can do is just be free of it
This is correct. Washington needs to rebuild (no one is disputing that), but they hem-hawed about it and are now in the position. In this case, just get what you can, bail out, and pull the chute. Better late than never.

Would sure be great if JC and THT opted in today…
I don’t want both to opt in. They are virtually the same dude. Different styles but have the same playing mentality. Both take the ball out of Markkanen’s hands. Which is why I love Agbaji so much. My hope is that he just develops into a knock down shooter and continues to develop his defense and a grittiness.

Pretty sure THT opts in while Clarkson opts out (unless we trade him). Jordan will be one of those players I will never boo.

They can’t be traded in a draft day deal if they don’t opt in. If they’re opting in it would be great if they did that today. I’m actually not sure how they benefit by having a later opt-in date.

Looking at the landscape, I think they both opt in. Jazz keep THT and trade Clarkson to a better situation (a high level contender) where he gets an extension. Similar to a sign and trade situation without the hard cap.

But opting in at the end of the month does nobody any favors rather than opting in today.

I don’t think they opt in today. It’s mostly wishful thinking. The Wizards should actually be applauded for threading the needle with the opt-in and trade to get something rather than nothing.

I think the argument is that they should’ve been big sellers at the deadline and kept Rui instead of dealing him away for pennies on the dollar. Would’ve been interesting to see what they could’ve gotten for Beal and Porzingis just by trading them once cycle earlier.

With regard to the wiz... their owner is very much into getting the 8 seed... so when he gives green light to blow **** up... and you know that is what should be done you do not hesitate. Imagine waiting for a better return and starting off 7-5... good luck convincing that guy you should blow it up midseason.

Wiz are doing the right thing and the return may not be ideal but its adequate. Will take a few years but I think they are doing what is right.

I agree with this. I think their ownership is the problem. They waited too long to right the ship and now it’s going to be an extended and painful process. Really glad that DA knew what needed to be done AND that Ryan Smith trusts him enough to let him work.

I think there’s probably a LOT of owners who would’ve balked at trading Gobert, Mitchell, Bogdanovic, O’Neale, Conley, Beverley, Beasley, Vando and NAW - plus trading for Westbrook only to buy him out for about $20 million. What the Jazz did last year was pretty insane.

The best thing Ryan may have done is hiring a GM he unequivocally trusts and letting him do the damn job.

Fisher had another notebook... not too much that caught my eye... Atlanta is desperate... Monte Morris is going to get moved likely... pretty much same stuff we been hearing I think.

Desperate how?
They want to dump salary. They are out of runway... Its not just John Collins they are willing to dump if they can get a return... its Hunter (who was untouchable last year), Capela or Murray. Hunter and 15 couldn't get them to #7 with Indiana. Collins and 15 couldn't get them 10 and Bertans... Might end up being Capela to Dallas... but that is Trae's favorite teammate/pnr partner. I think even if they move Capela that JC still doesn't want to be there all that much.

They need to dump about 10M in salary this year, clean the books for future years, and do it all while improving and trying not to look like cheap asses. They really need a sucker and haven't been able to find one.

Trent Forrest will right their ship.

We should have been all over the Porzingis dump. If they were willing to attach 2 picks with him, why not Clarkson or Sexton plus Gay for Porzingis and 2 firsts.

Ainge is usually like a hammerhead when teams are hemorrhaging. Celtics out sharked the Meg.
