2023 NBA Free Agency Thread

Sure, he can be good in the regular season and a positive, but it's not playoff defense.

The Jazz arent building a team with midgets. They are going for a more versatile defense that can play multiple styles. Sexton being on the team is fine, but they arent going to want to stack small guards.
He quite literally was part of a championship team but sure... it won't work in the playoffs. If you got FVV you could move Collin. This stuff is all fungible.

If we are targeting 24 - 28 year olds, here is a list of players interesting to me that are at least rumored out there to be available or that are FA. Trades or FA options for difference making 24 - 28 year olds as food for thought.

Dejounte Murray
Cam Johnson
Luke Doncic (the real prize potentially next year)
De'Andre Hunter
Ayo Dosunmo
Darius Garland (doubt it)
Grant Williams
O.G. Anuboby
Bruce Brown
Dillon Brooks
Max Stuss
Jae'sean Tate (could we steal him from the rockets in their free agency dealing)
Josh Hart
Caleb Martin (depends on what Heat do with big names
Alex Caruso (doubt he is available)
Pascal Siakam (doubt it)
Yutaka Watanabe
Not to step on @KqWIN ' s toes but Immanuel Quickley is like 24 yrs and 10 days old or something like that. I think there is a legit shot that happens.

He was a bench player for a championship team led by Kawhi Leonard, one of the greatest players of all time.

He was very key in the GSW series that won them the ring, but he was also a total bust in the first and second round of that year.

And now he has transformed his game into being more of a shot happy diet than how he played back then and his defense has gotten worse.

No thanks. I already went through my wanting FVV phase and I realize how bad of an idea it was.

Listened to Fred Katz on the Knicks Film School Podcast... mentioned they already have a minutes issue. If the Donte deal happens they have like 2 too many rotation players. He was also asked if he though IQ was more likely to be traded before season, in season, or end the year on the team. He said end the year on the team but didn't deny a pre-season deal potential. Seemed like a 30/70 type of thing. Said he doubts he'd be moved in season which makes sense to me.

I think IQ/JC backcourt is kinda interesting. If it was like Sexton and an unprotected pick for Evan/IQ and the Washington pick they own that is more likely to be a couple good second rounders... I think that would help them keep the powder dry while having some interesting salary matching. Just think a crowded backcourt with a guy in a contract year like IQ would become a Cam Reddish situation they want to avoid.

No thanks on that. Sexton and an unprotected first plus we take on Fournier? Easy pass.

Whatever... he's going to Houston so it really doesn't matter. I got no energy to tell you the ways it would help push us to the next few steps.

I actually think Fournier could be real easy to dump on SA as the French Joe Ingles for Wemby. Not sure we'd have to take him and maybe a second or two goes to SA (from us or NY) and they can reach the salary floor. Either way he is an expiring contract... so trade fodder or cap space placeholder.

We could do a straight pick for IQ but I think JC or Collin would be moved in a separate or connecting deal to clear up the guard rotation.

If he ends the year on the Knicks it just means they will get less or nothing in return in RFA. If I’m the Jazz I’d be willing to pay a reasonable price to get him now and if I’m Quickley I don’t want my minutes squeezed right before free agency.

But we can wait I guess.

Getting D'Lo at 13 million is pretty tempting.

Terrible locker-room guy, but that's a value deal. You can probably flip him at the deadline if things arent working out or Sexton/THT/George have shown they are better at running the team.

I would hate acquiring DLo at any price... I just would. One year deal isn't that tradeable. The market has spoken... inefficient gunners that are assholes behind the scenes aren't super valuable. Let the Lakers keep him on the cheap.

Kinda like this for the Kings. I'm sure its a second round pick or two. They should have like 15M in space but not sure if they just do a Sabonis extension with that or try and sign someone. Duarte should be able to get back to the player he was as a rookie and be a solid rotation piece on the cheap.
