Clarkson Opts In

Declining years.
The only way Clarkson could be said to be doing a solid is if he actually had better options than this deal. We have absolutely no idea if that was the case, and I'd say it's pretty damn unlikely since we haven't heard anything like that at any point.

I don't think JC had a market. I don't think teams looked at his role last season and said "What we need is a 30+ year old Jordan Clarkson on a $55/3 deal going 1-on-3 night after night".

How is that him doing the Jazz a solid, thought? $55m/3 years is $55m/3 years, and present value basically always trumps future value anyway.

Because he could have said no to the renegotiation and taken more money later on?

$17 m per season seems like a bargain considering that he was the 6th man of the year a few seasons ago and moved into a starting role with his best statistical season ever this past season. There’s lots of ways that a team can use JC. Glad he re-upped.
FVV scored the same amount as Clarkson, rebounded the same, but had 3 more assists. 1 Went for 43 million a year, the other 17, Clarkson >

It is. I think the point is that Clarkson didn’t do us a solid. In other words, getting his money earlier is better for him too.

That’s still doing us a solid regardless if it’s a solid for himself at the same time. I don’t think it’s mutually exclusive.
