Punch Bowl Re-Filler
So, you're KOC and you hop in your Doc Brown DeLorean, fire up the flux capacitor and set the date and time back to June 24th, 2010 at 7:00 pm EST. Patiently you wait until the 9th pick arrives. Knowing now what you didn't back then, who do you draft?

Since the top 5 were pretty much a given and the discussion amongst all of us centered on the next group of players - assuming KOC couldn't move up, here's my take:

Draft Busts: maybe a little too early to judge, but Aminu, Udoh, Aldrich and Babbitt have shown little indication of becoming rotational players.

Marginal Impact: Patterson, Sanders.

Solid Contributors: George, Hayward, Henry, Davis. Based on this season, you'd have to say George has the advantage. He's been shooting lights out. But Hayward was a much better shooter last season (49%/47%). So I'll be a homer, and give Hayward the edge here due to his multiple skills. Davis was also pretty solid as a rookie (8/7), but has struggled just like Gordon this year. Henry is still injured, so no way to judge how much he's improved over last season.

Home Run: Monroe. He may not be a shot-blocker, but Monroe is a solid scorer and rebounder. And it looks like he made a Malone-type improvement with his FT-shooting. His averages have increased from 9/8 to 16/9. And 85% on his FT's.

My draft board from 6-9 was Monroe, Davis and Henry. But before I pat myself on the back, I have to admit Hayward wouldn't have even been in my top-20 if not for the pimping of him by honz. And I also thought Hassan Whiteside might be worth trading up for if the Jazz could move into the late 1st/early 2nd.

Since Monroe was already off the board, I'd say it certainly looks like KOC got one of the two BPA's at #9. And what can you say about Evans at #55. He may not be a major contributor, but he can certainly entertain with his dunks and is one of the best guys around, having done the summer Jazz tour twice.

You should have included Landry Fields (not that I would have voted for him, but he is better than most of the guys listed).

It's a toss up between Hayward and George obviously.

I was just running down the list of the players taken 9-16. Had to put in "Other" as an option, so that left me with 1 more choice. I skipped over Seraphin, but you're probably right...should have included Fields instead of Bledsoe.

It's really a tough choice between George and Hayward. Honestly though, I think I'd go with George due to his superior size, strength and athleticism. He also seems tougher, but maybe that's just me. Plus, Hayward is looking more and more like a 2, so George, being an actual 3 and all, would be a better combo with Burks in our future starting lineup. But I'm still very happy with Hayward.

At the moment, Paul George looks like the best prospect, with Ed Davis taking second and Gordon Hayward third. But we don't need Ed Davis, another token power forward. And although George is the best, I'd say, he's not HUGELY dominating over Hayward, so I think we got a damn good pick. Plus, I look at Hayward and I see a lot of fundamentals that don't show up on the stat sheet, he really is an unusual prospect. I think he's worth the risk over George. Good pick by the Jazz.

Have you seen Davis play lately?--He's been terrible. Even if he was playing the way he was at the end of last season I'd still take Hayward over him.

No one was thinking of drafting Fields even in the 1st round.

I heard Paul George went from 6"8 to 6"10 over the lockout. Crazy if true.

Is that his secret to his success, 63% from 3 so far this season after shooting just 29% last season.

I must admit I thought george would suck last year but he was decent. This season he looks like a totally different player.

Ed Davis is inconsistent but I think he could still be best of the bunch.

I know a couple people were really high on Xavier Henry, i'm sure they are happy we ended up with Hayward

I don't understand the George love. I have him in my fantasy team. I also have Hayward both sit at the end of my bench, and their numbers are very similar. Georges shooting % are better, but that is probably because Hayward has started the season in a bit of a shooting slump. Before the season I stated that I thought Hayward would break out, but I also said he would start slow.

My opinion is that Hayward is the best choice of all the players listed. Gordon is going to be a star in this league. I can't wait for everyon to eat their crow regarding Hayward and George. Those two are 1 and 2 in that order. For #3 on my list I'm going in a different direction, Bledsoe. He was an impact last year but with three former all-stars pg's on the team he hasn't gotten any run this year.

There ya go he might be a young pg the jazz could acquire with out giving up too much. I like him a lot.

I guess given the scenario of traveling in a time machine it's reasonable to expect that KOC would have known he was going to be able to steal a shooting guard in the 2011 draft so he ought to go with a pure small forward in the 2010 draft. In that scenario it was also genius of him not to grab one of the crappy power players left at the time he was picking because he could have foreseen that he would soon be overloaded with talented bigs.

I am a Hayward fan, but George looks like he could have superstar potential especially with the growth spurt. Hayward does appear to be the 2nd best player on the list though, so I'm happy.

If you pick anyone above George at 9, you're probably sucking down some homer sauce for the wrong person something fierce. He might be the best player in that entire draft.

I want what your smoking must be real good. The best in the draft really!!
He's certainly better than anyone the Jazz could've drafted at 9 already. He's better than Wall so far, and really only bound to get better. He's not as productive as Monroe or Cousins right now but the book hasn't been written yet, especially since Cousins might just wreck teams he plays for for the foreseeable future.

Maybe KOC DID travel back in time and pick Hayward...
