Trade ideas

I'm definitely on board trading Lauri to OKC for a big overpay. I'm just curious though with the new CBA and the second apron tax can the Jazz still get a Gobert like level package for Lauri? Not that OKC doesn't have the assets to pull it off but would they financially be committed to it?

How can you **** on THT but want Giddey?
One is one of the best young passers in the league and one is pretending to be a PG?

I don’t hate THT and get the shooting concerns, but are you saying they are the same kind of player?

A lot more… I want the Houston and Clips picks on top of Giddey and our pick back.
Yes, in case I didn’t make it clear you only give up Lauri for the godfather offer. He has insane value and can fit it on any team in the league. I would love to keep him, I just wish I could see the path forward more clearly.

If it happens here is the process I go through first… give it 5-6 games to see how things are going with the current alignment. If no improvement go ahead and give Keyonte the starting gig and tell him to be like 50% more aggressive with the ball (doesn’t mean shoot it all the time but go to work). If it looks real promising I may not even take calls on Lauri. If it looks rough… I consider it if calls are coming in. I’d probably want 20+ games at least with Keyonte as a focus before making any kind of decision on the directions we are willing to go.

They aren't as different as you'd like to think. I don't think Giddey is a PG. He's a tall playmaker who can't shoot.

I'm not the biggest fan of Giddey but he is a more cerebral player than THT. I think he will shoot it fine as a catch and shoot guy but likely never an off the dribble guy. I think he's a great passer playmaker but might be a guy that limits your ceiling. The draft capital would be the biggest appeal and i see Giddey as the best guy I think we could get on top of a draft pick haul. I'd probably be fine with Cason and Dieng if they want to keep Josh. I think they might love Cason and his fit so might actually prefer to move on from Giddey if they are pushing in to win now.

Fair enough, I'm not scoffing at tall playmaker though. That's a need.

And I will be generous and grant him bad, but improving, shooter.

It seems at minimum he is rich mans THT, so your aversion to him does puzzle me a bit.

I just don't think you can play a guy who can't shoot with Walker. Maybe if we get Sarr it's different, but I want no part of adding additional non shooters to a Walker Kessler team

I will not settle for less than amazing value if we did move Lauri. We have the opportunity and means to do a re-negotiate and extend for him. If he refuses this offseason we can still get 3+ picks for him as an expiring to a team he is more willing to sign with. If we sign him and continue to suck... he's still as good of an asset if he is resigned.

2025/2026 should have some superstar talent in the draft... Flagg and Boozers. This year we are probably already pretty tanky so nbd. If we did decide to tank for 2025/26 it sucks but it really screws over OKC as the pick we owe becomes a second if we are bottom 10 next year and bottom 8 the following year. So for them... us moving Lauri already neuters that picks value. We would also have a window to see:

1- If Keyonte pops
2- If the 2024 draft pick is good
3- If Taylor or other young guys are good
4- If Lauri will re-up long term

So IF they or anyone does want him that's fine... but make a stupid high offer.

I'm guessing Josh's rep is a little overheated for how good he is as a player... similarly THT maybe a little cooler for how he is as a player. Maybe Giddey gets routed to a third team if DA isn't a fan. I still think OKC is the source of the most value and Lauri should be one of the top targets they'd have throughout the league given age, skillset, fit, etc.

Walker is a small piece, I don't think he should limit any moves we potentially make. We aren't building a team around Kessler.

If Giddey was free I'd love him just like tH
And would want to give him a massive deal like THT, I hope.

If we dealt Lauri, would we get to hang a banner for best draft capital? Do we as fans get to wear a ring?

I personally dont think Lauri trade is in the books rn. I think the first thing that they would do is a soft reboot and youth movement while trying to snatch a top pick and create even more cap space for next offseason (shipping out Sexton and Clarkson).

Tank this year, ship out the vets and start George, Ochai, TH, Lauri and Kessler with the end of bench filling up the rotation. Thats not gonna win you many games. Or if it does you are in REALLY good shape.

It would be pretty disheartening. I will get you a ring though if it happens.

And this is probably the route you go and I'm guessing Lauri would rather be good but that he will still sign an extension and be patient. If you don't hit a homerun in the draft or FA it may become an issue... its just hard to see us making a big jump in time to really maximize Lauri's prime.

The assets we'd have accumulated would make Hinkie and Presti blush... we don't really NEED them but we are in a tough spot and picks are the most fluid asset. shrug.

Even if he’s not a pure point guard we can slide him to the two next to keyonte he’s a better playmaker than anyone on our roster right now and it’s not even close if we do this move we probably sell of clarkson and sexton for whatever we can get to open up room for Hendrix

I think a lineup of

Keyonte/THT
Giddey/sensabaugh
Ochai/Simone
Collins/Hendricks
Kessler/olynk

Would be a lot more fun to watch than what we are watching right now because we are horrible in every factor of the game of basketball besides offensive rebounding right now and we get to see THT shoot as much as he wants off the bench while being a solid distributor to the rookies

For the record I think we can be awful this year while keeping Lauri and land a guy like collier who I think could slide next to keyonte very well in the back court while keeping our front court together

Collier
Keyonte
Lauri
Collin’s
Kessler

Has some potential with THT sexton or clarkson as the sixth man but still would need to trade at least one hopefully 2

Sadly if we do trade Lauri it is likely we are building on guys selected in the next 3-4 drafts rather than configuring things around guys we have. You basically move to ground zero at that point. Key, Giddey, Walker all could be good building blocks but you aren't really making plans around them yet ya know.
