My first thought is that Memphis deal makes zero sense for Memphis and OG isn't coming to Utah.

I feel like best case scenario for a Collins trade (before the szn starts) is Detroit's strikes out in free agency and they are just willing to take on Collins for a 2nd round pick
John Collins would have to be moved for an OG signing. Lauri R+E is happening 100%. Dumping Clarkson doesn’t give us enough to give OG the max.
I actually wonder if a FVV style deal would be enough to persuade him. Give OG the max for 3 years? It could work. I think he’d likely choose PHI over us.
If he chooses us, we could send John Collins back to New York. Otherwise OKC would be the top salary dump location IMO.

If that’s a binary choice, then absolutely.
If we are wanting to give OG the full max then yeah. If he’s willing to take a little less than we’d only have to trade Clarkson. Are we really wanting to give him a 4/182M max starting at 42.3M?
It would be more like a FVV deal. Max money, shorter years. You're not getting a discount on him because he will simply sign with NYK. I suppose you give him slightly less than the max for more years, but NYK is certainly going to offer the same.

Exactly, they would. I think it only gets interesting if OG can make significantly more on an annual basis....hence a FVV type contract. Anything close means NYK will up the offer.

I think so too. As much as I hate to say it, Bridges is probably the most likely FA if we end up using it to move forward and acquire a player. Williams seems very gettable with CHI's financial situation, and could probably squeeze Okoro away from CLE as well.
That would be backwards priorities in my opinion, but I could understand why Lauri and the Jazz would want to wait.
I'm sure Lauri would love to see some commitment to winning and so bringing in a free agent could help him see that and be more likely to extend.
From our side we might be interested in seeing how good we can be with free agent acquisitions before committing long term to Lauri. I hope this isn't the case as I believe Lauri should be extended whether we keep him long term or would like to trade him eventually.
I would love to sign OG. Partially I like him as a player and partially just to give NYK the bird. Chances are pretty low though. But he would be great here. No idea what the numbers are showing. My guess is he wants only the max and NYK is offering a little less than that.
Also it's funny to me how low a lot of people are on this message board about the Jazz. For me I haven't been this high about the Jazz since we beat OKC in the playoffs. I feel like we're in a really great spot right now.
IDK if I would say I'm high on what's happening, but it's undoubtedly one of the most interesting stages of the franchise with the amount of options the Jazz have available to them.

I’m not down on them but I hate how they’ve handled the last two years.
I feel like we sold our house that we had on 2.875% interest, and now we feel more rich because our bank account is holding all that money and it looks sexy, but now we can’t get into a house at 6+% interest and an inflated market, and the value of our money is being diminished by inflation while housing prices are skyrocketing.

Not me. I think they did very solid. Built assets, drafted well, developed some players well, kept flexibility, and didn't waste any assets. Also did not completely **** our team by going scorched earth. We have a borderline all NBA player that's a unicorn and easy to build around with a million picks plus a handful of very young players with solid upside.
We could not have tanked more the first year. The team surprised us and played better than expected and we got a great player emerge that's worth way more than any pick that year besides the very low chance at #1. After the break we fully tanked which is the only time we could have. We got great players that are arguably just as valuable as anyone after the first pick.
This year we went into the year with the same team that lost a ton. The only way we could have been worse was trading away Lauri, which is really stupid. Also this years draft at the top sucks and it isn't worth it. But we did move up as much as possible at the end and got extra assets to do it.
Jazz did a great job.
