He got squeezed because Utah traded him to one of the only teams with cap-space who were interested in paying free agents to improve their team.

It was fine since it met our goals of tanking end of last year and this year. Detroit got a bargain so good on them. I think it ended up well bc we failed at big game hunting….but in a world where we did succeed in putting veteran talent around Lauri it would have been looked at as a big mistake. I’m kind of surprised Simone didn’t get more, but it ended up being a real nice value for DET….for whatever they’re doing.
Because Detroit would have made a competitive offer that Utah would have to think about not matching. Utah would have matched 8 million per year.
