Should Cody spend time in the G LEAGUE

Should Cody Williams get sent down to the Stars for a stint?

I thought Cody last night was excellent like the Vegas Summer League Cody. The Stars had a nice lead when he was on the court.

What the heck, he looks like a different player in those highlights: aggressively going in and scoring through contact, effortlessly dropping threes... I have never seen him playing this way.

If Cody gets comfortably with playing through contact he will completely change what he can do on the court

this why g leauge was a great idea for him. remind/convince him that he can play. even if he plays like **** 2 out of 3 games, he just needs a good one here and there like last night to tell him - dude, look, you can get to the bucket, you can make threes. this g league stint has allowed him to be aggressive and now last night, both be aggressive and play well. perfect scenario.

Cody can learn a thing or two from Slow Mo Anderson. His shooting mechanics is too slow and he's not explosive enough to get by his man. He's got some very good game fundamentals but unfortunately the game is simply too physical and too fast for him. If he can add slow-mo’s craftiness and funky mechanics to his bags, he can still carve out a NBA career.

Cody is faster than Kyle Anderson. Cody also has a decent 1st step. He's actually not far off from being like Jerami Grant offensively if he can add a good 10-15 lbs.

Biggest difference from what I can see is that Cody is getting more buckets in the flow of the game. Broken plays, semi transition, and of course horrible GLeague defense. He can't create an advantage, but he can finish with one. It's different from the first two games where it looked like he felt like he would be sent to jail if he didn't try to score every time he touched it. I definitely think there's a mental aspect to this. When you get "demoted" to the GLeague you feel like you just have to chuck up anything and everything. It makes GLeague ball even more fake than it already is. I expect the rest of GLeague time to be like he was in the Summer League. Even though the SL is also low quality, Cody didn't play with the same desperation where he had to shoot it every time.

He was more "aggressive" in the first two games, but that certainly wasn't good basketball.

I'm old enough to remember the morons on this board giving up on Hendricks 3 games into the G-League season last year. . .
Now that Hendricks is out, people suddenly talk like he's a good player. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, I guess.

Let's not get it twisted: Hendricks didn't look good this season either. It's just that Cody has replaced him at the bottom of the barrel.

Good grief. The level panic is insane. Dude was obviously not ready physically for the NBA. Judging a dude who clearly needs 2 years minimum to fill out on what he looks like in his first 20 games is hysterical. Hendricks was sssoooo bad early last season and looked so much better this season. Calm tf down everyone
Hendricks was better than Cody and Cody is supposed to be the more skilled prospect.

I’m of course somewhat encouraged by the good game (good > bad). My expectations are unmoved from 0.

Vs. Lakers
Cody's looking quick and scrappy on defense and fighting for 50-50 balls. His effort level has improved all of a sudden. Had a nice drive for a bucket, but got called for a pretty subtle push off.
Cody drills a 3ball attempt from the wing, after missing one from the corner.
Cody with a tight crossover and drive from the 3pt line for a bucket.
1st quarter: Cody is 1/2 on drives to the rim, 1/3 on 3PAs including a last-second runner at the buzzer, 0/2 on mid-range Js. He picked up 2 steals and a block as well.
Cody hits his 2nd 3PA from above the break. He's looking much more comfortable, making cleaner decisions and shooting with confidence.
Cody with his 3rd steal and coast-to-coast finish with a layup. He has 10 pts, now sitting out after picking up his 3rd foul.
Filipowski has been a bit rough with fouls and now 5 turnovers early in the 3rd quarter.
Cody with a drive and a dish. Then makes a FT on a technical foul.
Cody misses a running floater, gets the reload 3ball from the corner.
Cody blocks a 3PA. Now up to 4 steals and 2 blocks. Again, he's much more engaged defensively.
Cody gets hit on a drive and got a little shaken up. No call. Cody's next 3PA goes in and out. He's 3/6 from 3 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Has 16 pts.
Cody is about 0/5 from mid-range. He's scored near the rim and on his 3PAs.
Cody with his 5th steal and a save to keep the ball in play.
Cody gets his shot blocked, recovers and scores. He's playing a long stint in the 2nd half and looks winded, quite frankly.
Cody comes out with 18 pts., 6 rebs, 5 steals and 2 blocks in 30 mins. He's coming along. Part of his problem may be that he gets tired.

Cody finished with 18, Flip had a double double, Davy Jones came within 2 points and 2 assists of a triple double off the bench but the star was Babacar Sane with 22 points. Cody looked good and Flip has a lot of rust to polish off.

Perhaps he needs to train with Karl Malone in the off season. Mail will whip him into shape.
