Following Potential 2025 Draftees

This is the first draft that I've paid much attention to Sam Vecine, and it is interesting to listen to his perspective. He's pretty down on this draft. He says he likes his top 5 (Cooper, Dylan, Egor, Kas, Ace), but outside of that he's not very excited. He didn't say this, but it feels like his main point is that the guys that are playing well are guys that are hard to project as being true difference makers in the NBA and the guys who have disappointed were the guys that had a more projectable NBA role. I disagree that this is a bad draft, but I can see his point, even if he didn't directly make it.

I get what he's saying, especially if you bought the hype on the "consensus top five" before the season started.

Flagg and Harper are the only two players with a legitimate chance at being #1 pick talents

I would say overall it's a normal draft. I think the players in my top (Demin/Kasper/Flagg/Harper/Johnson) 5 this year are much better than last year's top 5, but outside of that, I wouldnt say this year is any stronger or weaker than last year.

The Freshman/Sophomore class this year has been extremely productive, that should be exciting, but a lot of those guys are difficult to project as NBA guys because of role. The international guys are not that exciting or have been disappointing for the most part.

I think this will end up as a good draft, but one that is more difficult to predict who will really be the best players (besides the top few).

It’s a good draft. Certainly one worth tanking for. Next year’s draft seems like the generational draft. This year seems to have some all nba talent at the top and decent quality throughout the lotto… I think. It’s hard cuz last years draft was so tough at the top that it fells like an amazing draft this year.

If you take Cooper out of this draft and take Wemby out of 2023… I think 2025 will prove to be better but maybe there is a Scoot like bust that changes things.

I'm pretty sure I'm on record as saying the 2023 draft would be elite for high level starters/role players, but there wouldn't be very many all stars from the draft. I think that's looking pretty spot on right now.

I think 2025 has much more potential for all star level players, but could also result in more busts. 2023 was a great draft for defense guys. 2025 looks to be great for scorers.

IMO Wolf is actually pretty good on defense. Big body, good defensive hands, and moves pretty well. I think you’re in trouble if he’s your center, but he’s not that bad imo. Kind of like Flip on defense (tougher rebounder, probably not as mobile as Flip). I think he fits into a 3rd big kind of role well.

Biggest concern on him for me is his jumper. If he can shoot he gets really interesting, otherwise his skills might prove to be unique but not impactful.

Very fun to watch though. Reminds me a bit of Diaw.

I dont even think he's a big. I think he's a wing. He needs to shoot it. My brain short wires when I watch him. One of the most unique prospects I've seen in a minute.

The Scoot like bust is Traore but he wont get the benefit of the doubt Scoot got because he's foreign.
There's a chance its Ace. It may not be as big of a bust because he has more to hang his hat on. Of the guys in the top 5-6 I think he's the one that scares me most as of right now.

Definitely unique, on offense he plays like a guard but he rebounds super well for a big. If he doesn't shoot it well unique is probably all he'll be....but I'm intrigued. I watched that whole Oklahoma game and it's unreal to see how he plays. He's got legit handles and throws one handed passes all day.

ace is definitely the guy with the highest ceiling and most bust potential. but it just feels like he's closer to falling to his floor than reaching his ceiling. he'd scare the hell out of me to draft, but wouldn't scare me nearly as much to pass on. and i feel like i'm more bullish on ace than most - i see a lot of good in his game and i'm always cognizant of how young he is for his class, while i think a lot of people don't give him the same leeway.

If the Jazz can get a lead guard or lead initiator somewhere in this draft, next year's draft has a pile of outstanding wings and forwards. Probably the high-level wing will be an initiator, but it's still good to have a guard who can run the show for a while. (Think Celtics with both Tatum and Jrue Holiday.)

This draft looks to be a pretty solid one for guard depth.

I dont currently have Ace in the top 6, so I guess it's less of a bust scale for me.

To me he is going to be a tall guy who can score and rebound. As long as he isnt a complete negative on defense, I dont see much room for him being a complete bust.

Or they just trade for Fox after they build out the rest of the roster and have multiple rookie contract players who arent in the main rotation who will look attractive to a rebuilding team.

I think the defense is fine from what I've seen. If he is an inefficient scorer I worry he's a bust. Likely still an NBA player... but just really disappointing.

That's true too. But Fox would probably have to agree to extend with Utah, he'll be expensive to trade for, and he wouldn't be under team control for 7 years like someone on rookie-scale.

I think he can come in and be like Cam Johnson at a minimum. I think there's a floor there. He just sucks on the ball and in isolation compared to everyone's original expectations. At this point, I would put Tre Johnson ahead of him, and probably at least one of the other bigger guards.
