That's a very big "and".Is Knecht a better prospect than Sensabaugh?
Obviously very different team contexts, and Brice is 2.5 years younger, but:

I know Knecht defense has been an issue as expected, but I still believe he has a better path to being a good defender given his athleticism, so I would probably give the edge to Knecht. Is Knecht a better prospect than Sensabaugh?

Yeah, the turnovers/lack of ease in really fitting in a system aren't doing Brice any favors now (though he's seemed to have made a lot of progress even during the season), but I think the comparison is a lot closer than many would think.I know Knecht defense has been an issue as expected, but I still believe he has a better path to being a good defender given his athleticism, so I would probably give the edge to Knecht.
I would say overall Brice has more talent but he does seem like he will be more of a ball stopper vs Knecht who will be more of a motion shooter/quick decision maker.
Also, players have been much more keen to take the money from incumbent teams on extensions (because they get more and lock in security), such that 2019 is the last year that max players jumped ship from their incumbent team in free agency. If LA kinda doesn’t have that anymore and they’re relying on building through trade (bearing in mind this is how they got AD), I’m not sure how great LA as a lure really is if they don’t have the requisite market capital (picks) to make those moves. They are a destination BUT they wandered in the wilderness for a long time before Lebron blessed them and FA is different now with the extensions. Almost have to trade for the star and if they don't have stuff to trade...
I would bet those picks would be pretty decent or looked at as having good value in a trade down the line. It is a lot to give up.
Cy Charania!Talking to teams this week, a theme emerged that the Jimmy Butler situation is holding up the trade market some.
One assistant GM told me that his team has a deal basically done, but the other team could be in a four- or five-team Butler trade. So, they have to hold for now. That's slowed things.
1 unprotected pick and Knecht is an easy pass for me if that's what you think is high. That deal might hurt the other pick we own enough to pass (something no other team would really have to consider). All of this just leads me to saying that it won't happen. If that's your asking price...ok then the result is that it won't happen and that's fine. I feel like some try to speak things into existence but it doesn't really work that way.
Something in between, like Knecht+one unprotected is in between seems to be where the line of scrimmage is at....but we don't really know if it's LAL or UTA who is hesitant. Knecht+one unprotected easily clears/satisfies what the previous "high" asking prices were reported to be whether that be "two first round picks" or a "young prospect plus pick".
I don't really value Knecht that much, so I'm personally keeping Walker if that offer is on the table. I think there's a decent chance the Jazz accept that offer if it was presented to them, however. We know Ainge is rigid and asks for a lot, but the last time he accepted a deal with the Lakers it was less than half of what people around here were hoping for.
Yeah, you would think they want to get this thing done as soon as possible.Cy Charania!
Yeah I would guess a lot of the deals that are likely to get done are 75-80% there just everyone has to see how the board sets up. Jimmy deal is so complex it will have to have 4 teams at least... maybe 5 if Beal is in the deal too. Normally 90%+ of the trades are done in the last 48 hours. It just seemed like Phoenix might only do the Jazz deal if they already had the other stuff locked down.
Riley lost his fastball tbh. I would have just taken Beal and the 2031 Suns pick for the Heat and moved on. He thinks he will get a FA in a couple years and FA has changed. Wanting Middleton/Portis and a worse pick over just taking Beal and getting a good pick is weird to me. I understand there is some duplication with Beal and Herro but if they don't make the playoffs this year they will give up unprotected picks in 2026 and 2028 as a result. So they just need to get focused.Yeah, will be interesting to see where he ends up. You would think they want to get this thing done as soon as possible.
It was a Bluesky tweet from Brian Smith. It just lets you copy the text for some reason and not post the tweet.Cy Charania!

The really consistent messaging has been that Walker isn't available and I believe it for the most part. But then again Ochai was once untouchable.
Yes. It looked like Riley initially thought he could keep him. But then Jimmy put on his Sun color shoes.Riley lost his fastball tbh. The Rozier trade was tragic.
I guess I haven't seen much since the summer when they said they wanted two picks. Price would certainly be up now imo. It's consistent with what the asking price has been reported to be, and the reporting has also stated that it's been high. So yes, that's what I would consider to be high based on the reporting. I think two unprotected Laker picks far exceeds anything that's been reported and is quite rich for Walker. If the Lakers are putting both of those on the table I'd expect a bigger name than Kessler for sure.
And just to be clear, I'm not saying I would take that deal. I have said the direct opposite and said I would pass....just saying that Knecht+one unprotected first absolutely fits the "high asking price" as has been reported. In fact, you could argue that it exceeds the reported asking price.
He was never going to keep him. I think he thought he'd play the year out and be a good soldier. But he also unnecessarily dumped on him in a presser.Yes. It looked like Riley initially thought he could keep him. But then Jimmy put on his Sun color shoes.

It isn't happening though so its just for ***** and giggles.
With regard to draft odds... I think it would be more about next year than this year. The tank has us pretty dialed in and the trade deadline should finish us off. Next year may be even more shameless than this tank year league wide.Man, I just don't like this idea of getting rid of Kessler. Whoever we trade him to will have an in-prime Kessler for several years, likely driving down the value of the pick(s) coming back.
Especially when the "reward" is most likely a small chance of getting the #5 pick rather than the #6 pick this year.
Even with next year in mind, that's just probably not a bet I make. Walker's probably on pace to have a better career than 1/2 (maybe more) of the players in the top ten of drafts? With regard to draft odds... I think it would be more about next year than this year. I think there is like a 1% chance at a Walker move. He's one of the last guys we are likely shopping.
