What's new

Dallas trading Luka to the Lakers for Anthony Davis! Utah involved.

If you are determined to trade him, then that wouldn't matter.
I dont think they were that determined. They probably had a list of players they wanted. If they cant get that list done, then you just have him. If he knows, then you have to trade. Or he is able to dictate where he wants to go and lower the price for that team.

The more I think about this trade, the more I love it for Dallas. Ballsy move that probably had to be made sooner rather than later.

They gave Luka a million chances. He showed them he can only play an extremely heliocentric brand of basketball, flat out refuses to defend and can’t/won't keep his weight down. In a word, he was unserious. He wasn't going to change. The Mavs simply had enough of his crap.

People keep repeating Luka's "just 25", but he's been in the league for an eternity and has accumulated a huge amount of wear and tear, partly because he's so often playing out of shape. If people think he'll magically turn it around and the rest of his NBA career will look better health-wise than we've seen so far… I don't know what to tell you.

You really see Luka as a healthy, efficient NBA player at 32 or 33? Yeah.

A few years from now, this trade will be seen as a massive win and a tactical triumph for the Mavs. Sometimes you just have to say "No más" when you still can.
I certainly understand Mavs giving up on Luka to an extent, but I _am_ surprised at how little they got. I would've thought at least get the '31 pick something like top 4 protected.
And it's never going to be a win for Dallas if AD can't stay healthy. That's also a pretty big if.

That said, though, I'm also coming around to this being better for Dallas than I felt at first.

I fell asleep last night before this trade happened lol. Imagine my instant confusion when it’s the first thing I saw on my phone when I checked it.

The amount of Jazz fans upset about getting Jalen Hood-Schifino and two seconds for cash is baffling. This trade was happening with our without us. I’m glad we got in there to help facilitate.
Jazz sorta get back one of the first round picks they gave to Suns

We have trade exceptions.
Okay, this just underscores the question of why the Jazz are involved. Yeah, I guess maybe trust? But if anything I would think the relationship there might be somewhat acrimonious after a ~7 month standoff.
