What's new

Dallas trading Luka to the Lakers for Anthony Davis! Utah involved.

Not sure if this aspect has been discussed but Luka is now playing with an absolute legend.
If anyone can get the most out Luka and get him in shape and playing hard then it just night be LeBron.

In a league dominated by superstars, trading away a top 5 player that's 25/26 doesn't make sense. It's not like he has the same condition issues as Zion. Are people forgetting that he took a limited roster to the finals last year? I would be surprised if the Mavs make the finals again in the next decade. If they kept Luka, my guess is they would be back in the finals once or twice. Unequivocally a lopsided trade.

They clearly want to make another run with Kyrie and Klay. If Luka is unavailable, and that was clearly a concern for them, it’s not a downgrade.
Still could have got more elsewhere.

I think going from the finals and Luka to whatever they do this season and AD is a downgrade.

Okay, this just underscores the question of why the Jazz are involved. Yeah, I guess maybe trust? But if anything I would think the relationship there might be somewhat acrimonious after a ~7 month standoff.
I know JZ is highly connected being a former agent. That's the benefit of having a large FO I guess. We've also been connected as having legitimate interest in JHS, probably because DA/JZ respect my opinion (sarcasm)

I doubt many teams wanted JHS due to his free agency status. Not a lot of upside there.

Im sure both 2nds are somewhat fake. Utah will probably end up selling them for cash on draft night or using them on stash players.

One discussion in Reddit kinda struck my eye. They are saying that this is political and personal, and targeted at Mark Cuban by the new owner obliging to Trump/Musk who Cuban has criticized in the past.

Sounds wild but I'm out of logical reasonings at this point.
It tracks but I can't believe that is what happened.

It will not be LBJs team anymore
Idk about that. It's insane but at 40 years old he is still having one of the best seasons of his career.
He is above his career averages for shooting percentage, three point percentage, free throw percentage, Efg%, rebounds and assists.
LeBron is STILL LeBron even at this age which is insane but true.
He is having an all star year once again.
About the only think Luka is doing better than LeBron at right now is more volume. He scores 4 more points per game with more minutes on much worse efficiency.

Lebron's defense has been really bad from what I've read. Trading Davis (not to mention Christie, who has been their best perimeter defender) will make them awful defensively. And Luka isnt even currently healthy.

Cap space / roster spot.
If we added nothing to the trade why do you think the Lakers/Mavs wanted to give us free stuff?
Shouldn't they have just done the trade without us?
Was it the late first round rookie contract salary savings? Seems like JHS wouldn't be making much money.

Probably, but they could also be used to make up value in trade for Clarson, Sexton, Collins.
Or whatever. Slightly interesting to note that SA sent three 2nds when they took a salary dump for a swap.

I’m still just grumpy we haven’t been getting any 2nds the last two years and actually sent multiple out.

Even at that, if they ever knew It was about facilitating getting Luka to the Lakers, I wonder what was the reasoning to do for a couple of seconds and taking a younger player that by It's NBA trajectory is a salary dump, not someone we should expect a second contract.

"If we break this to the world, It's problably either Luka with Shai and Chet/J-Dub or Luka and Wemby, and we can't let that happen" ?
The reasoning was " Luka is going to the Lakers whether we get involved or not so might as well get some free ****" probably

They’re not fake at all. It’s picks 48 and 53 this year.

Feel like the Lakers have to trade LeBron for whatever future assets package you can get. They should lose a lot of games now. Atalanta should be happy. They might get a lottery pick from this trade.
I have heard LeBron to the warriors?

I just meant like maybe there are protections (like top 55 protected) or some ****. I didnt know the details have come out they arent. That's good.
They’re 2025 seconds which is interesting. We likely move one or both of those in the near future.

This is crazy. why do other teams help out the Lakers. Jazz just lowered the value of the laker pick that had great potential to be a lottery pick. Plus when Lebron retires many players with flock to play with Luka. I hate the Lakers so much. Hood has been terrible, and two more 2nds isn't worth making the Lakers better.
The jazz didn't lower the value of the laker pick. The Lakers and Mavs making this trade did. The lakers and Mavs make this trade without us.

I think Ainge probably screwed the value of the Wolves pick a bit this year. I legit have a hard time seeing Dallas catch them now.
Nah, Ainge isn't the GM of the Lakers or the Mavs.
