2024-25 Trade Rumors Thread

And do you have the tentative reasonable timeline of when the team will try to compete under this scenario? Say, the Jazz draft their centerpiece in 2026 and begin drafting future kesslers and sextons in 2027-29. It will take 2-3 years for all of those young players to develop, so the Jazz can finally try to make playoffs in 2031/32?

Are we even sure that that centerpiece will not force his way out after several years of being on an absolutely horrible team that has been tanking for a decade? And if so, what then? Rinse and repeat?
Who knows.

Like I get's it's farfetched because of Butler's antics this year, but Butler still has the capability to playing like a top 20 player and can probably turn it on in the playoff to look like a top 10 guy.

Fox is a top 30 guy.

Wemby has had stretches where he has looked like a top 5 player in the NBA.

The player John Collins has been this season is pretty close to an ideal fit next to Wemby now that his 3pt shot has shown over half a season of elite low-mid volume efficiency and the ability to pass.

Sexton has been an elite scorer this season on mid volume and can shoot.

So if you can add all that for just a pick or two, and not even the premium picks, why not? I get they like Vassell, but he hasnt shown crazy improvement and has been a bit disappointing overall.

You still have the golden tickets Hawks picks in 25/27. Just do it. Let Wemby have a chance at being the GOAT and winning rings now.

I mean, the Fox deal suggest there is some sort of hurry, or at least they are willing to buy low to make things happen faster. They could have waited 2 years and given up nothing for Fox, but they got him early.

Spurs probably have an air of "Spurs Culture" (ironic I know given Butler ****ed "Heat Culture").

Like, the deal I outlined, what pick would the Spurs be willing to give up? Certainly not the Hawks pick in 2027, but they have so many first to use of varying values.
Depends on how you categorize. I think the Spurs are only interested in trading superfluous draft assets. They have a bunch of swaps which they in most cases cannot trade. They actually just traded all of their superfluous 1sts (meaning 1st rounders beyond one 1st per year). They have a billion 2nds (many of them at the bottom of multiple swaps, so trash). They do have two remaining 1sts this year, but both could be in the lottery and this could be their last chance to have their own pick be worth a damn.

Long story short, I think it is gonna be almost impossible to pry any more 1sts out of them and probably easy to get 2nds. They may be willing to part with a swap if the right magical scenario arises (such as a multi-team involving the team whose swap rights they own, i.e. Sacramento).

I picked a great weekend to get out of town. Easily the most shocking NBA trade I can remember. Still having a hard time processing it, but my initial reaction is that it pays to do business with dummies. This is true for both the Luka and Fox trades.

It would be my whole theory of being a GM. I'd be best buds with the dummies. Been saying it for years. Find a dumb GM and then just text/call everyday to check in.

Spurs been doing a slow burn in Chicago and Sacramento for years... they won two Derozan trades with those franchises lol. I hate them so much.

Credit to the Lakers they waited and waited to pounce but geez that is one of the sweetest deals in the history of the league.

If I was the GM I would be doing subtle trades to enhance the Minny pick. The dream for a franchise player in '27 is gone so why not shift gears and increase our chances for two swings this year?

It sounds made up, but it's the truth. So many of these trades that truly dictate the course of the NBA seem to happen because one dummy didn't think to ask or whatever. We can analyze ball 24/7, but in reality it's these relationships inside the NBA that develop over time and dictate so much of the outcomes.

I love all the kudos that Rob Pelinka got for keeping it quiet lol. Yeah if I am getting a steal of a deal I'm going to be tight lipped too! They thought that most of these guys won't just take the money when extensions are offered and will dictate where they land like Jimmy is right now is hilarious.

All Nico had to do was tell LA "look give me the other first and DK or my next call is to the Spurs to pair Luka and Wemby... then I will call 20 other franchises and see what they have... your move". You think they are staying firm? The deal can at least be sold as "we got everything with the one guy we really wanted".

Even if Luka is hurt all year and they drop out of the play in they have their own pick. It was just a wildly bad negotiation that makes me think Nico may be in the Lakers front office after he gets canned lol. Like some effing politician that sits on the board of goldman sachs after they retire.

It's funny because you can totally tell this wasn't a true negotiation where both guys were doing their best to represent their side. It's just a boys club. Zero chance in hell that Pelinka was being a tough negotiator and was able to hold onto that extra pick through his negotiation skills. If he didn't give it away, it would have been malpractice. We've just arrived at one pick because his boy Nico didn't think to ask and was probably happy had they gotten no picks. So much can be explained but just accepting that fact that many people at the top really shouldn't be there. This is true in real life, but especially in the NBA. This is not an exchange between masterminds at the top of the game, it's more like two buds from high school shooting the **** at the bar.

Tucker for Nurkic? Do the Suns have any assets to give us that would make that worthwhile?

Or is this more them being a favorite to get him off waivers once he's waived?

I haven't heard anything. The presumption is that he's going to be bought out. At most, maybe he'd yield some late 2RP, but he's been on the trade market all year and the Jazz were given cash and a pick to take his contract. I think it'll be a buyout and he'll then choose a team that wants him.

There isn’t one. It happens when it happens. Stockton and Malone were drafted in the 84 and 85 drafts then it took 11 years to make the finals. I’m not It for the playoffs, I want championship contention. So there is no timeline.

Look if DA gets one of his picks back for spinning these little webs everywhere I will die laughing. JZ too... I am sure he is involved be we all know Ainge gets off on this ****.

Tuck and the seconds we just got for Nurk and the Cavs first this year saves the Suns infinity monies. I will also never stop laughing.

Tucker and the two 2025 seconds we got for free for Nurkic and our 2027 first back we sent them.
I won't even be able to talk about it on the pod because I'll be laughing so hard. Like one of those cut scene blooper reels at the end of a movie.

I think its possible too. We are doing deals with teams we keep doing deals with.... Down Payment Theory?

Great minds. I would take the Cleveland 2025 first too but part of me wonders if they’d rather have that to use right away at the draft this year like they did previously.

Rob Pelinka's vision board has magic powers I'll tell you that. The post trade presser with Nico was hilarious. I was like why are you telling us this!!!

I'd prefer 27 or 29... and you may be right. They hit homeruns this draft so maybe thinking they can bolster the team now.
