2024-25 Trade Rumors Thread

The simplest path to this kind of trade is

Buter + Rozier -> UTA
Collins+Sexton+Clarkson -> MIA

This gets MIA out of the tax (and saves a ton on actual player salary), it gives them 3 players to help them win that expire in 26, it gets Jimmy out of there, and it gets them out of this Rozier legal situation. That's got to be worth a decent amount to them right?

IDK what we can do with Butler after that....I'm sure he's bluffing to some extent. Maybe you can extract a first from for a team looking for a rental or maybe you send him home and you do a S&T in the summer or he opts in and you trade him on a one year deal. We could also simply be looking at a lot of cap space if Butler opts out and Rozier gets banned from the NBA.
I would rather do this than nothing and the Heat probably would too. Maybe this could be the fallback for both teams with their respective dangled players.

If Jazz don’t get value I’m leaning toward doing nothing, maybe the Jazz can still lose games this season, and evaluate options again in the off season. Collins and Sexton are playing really well. Don’t wanna just give em away. Imo

To be clear, this motivation for this actually would be to get value. I think it’s more likely than not that they could trade him in the off-season. Worst case, Butler just walks and gives the Jazz tens of millions in capspace.

The source for Utah talking with Chicago is Tim Reynolds and Ben Anderson retweeted it.

Utah and Chicago are in talks, we're told, so evidently the "did MJ push off in 1998?" beef has been pushed aside for the time being.(MJ did push off, of course, but you're not calling that.)

I'm old enough to remember the Jazz jetisoning future all star Paul Milsap for nothing to improve the tank. Not sure that turned out the best for us even though this board wanted it real bad. We shouldn't give Sexton and Collins away for trash.
