Coronavirus

Justifiable criticism of the new paper….

A group of researchers last week released a small, preliminary paper theorizing that Covid-19 vaccines may be linked in rare cases to a constellation of lingering symptoms not dissimilar to those associated with long Covid.

They intended for their work to be the subject of academic discussion and to spur further study of what they dubbed “post-vaccination syndrome.” Instead, it has exploded online — and become a parable for the ways in which the internet is being used to weaponize basic vaccine research vital to advancing scientific knowledge about the safe use of these key products.

The study was released last Tuesday on medRxiv, a so-called preprint server where unpublished studies can be shared before they go through peer review, the process by which other scientists kick the tires, effectively, to help journals decide whether or not submitted research deserves to be published. The senior authors of the paper, immunologist Akiko Iwasaki and cardiologist Harlan Krumholz, both serious scientists, were clear in the press release they issued and interviews with STAT that these are preliminary findings that need much more study……

……One researcher, whose university — like a number right now — has told its academics to stay out of media coverage of political events, expressed exasperation at the scientists behind the study, asking: “Why on earth would you do this now if this is preliminary?” Post-vaccination syndrome “is a term that RFK will love,” this individual said.

The fact that the broadness of the term could be read to encompass vaccines other than Covid shots, even though the paper only investigated the role Covid shots might be playing in the illness it describes, was also seen by some as a concern.

“The term is a problem, it’s a real problem, especially at this political moment,” said Gaffney, who believes the study has multiple shortcomings. “We’re at a moment right now where the U.S. government is undercutting people’s trust in science and vaccinations probably like never before in history. And to coin this novel syndrome without even proving that it’s caused by the vaccine is very worrisome to me.”

So we don’t like vaccines but won’t support alternatives? Again, the “pro life” party demonstrates that it doesn’t give a **** about life.

Multiple vaccine projects have been paused by the Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Kennedy paused a multimillion-dollar projectto create a new Covid-19 vaccine in pill form on Tuesday, and the Food and Drug Administration canceled an advisory committee meeting on updating next season’s flu vaccine, an advisory committee said Wednesday.

The Covid project was a $460 million contract with Vaxart to develop a new Covid vaccine in pill form, with 10,000 people scheduled to begin clinical trials on Monday. Of that, $240 million was reportedly already authorized for the preliminary study.

I don't want him ****ing with the flu vaccine. I get mine every year and am grateful.

Man we’re ****ed… is it bad that I just want to live in a normal country? One where there is no question that vaccines are good, autocrats are bad, health care is a utility not a commodity only for the rich, and guns should be regulated? Normal. Country. I don’t need *** clowns bored with life and angry at minorities and women trying to derail my democracy. Just a normal electorate with a normal economy and a normal government. Normal.

The Trump administration is slashing long-standing areas of research funded by the National Institutes of Health, claiming they no longer align with the agency's priorities.

The latest target?

Millions of dollars in NIH grants for studying vaccine hesitancy and how to improve immunization levels. It's work that's particularly relevant as a measles outbreak grips the Southwest amidst diminishing vaccination rates.

In recent weeks, scientists around the country have begun receiving letters stating their existing grants — money already awarded to them in a competitive process — were being cut…..

"I want to underscore just how unprecedented — how abnormal all of this is," one longtime NIH official told NPR. "This is not how we operate."……

In what some at the agency view as an ominous sign, the NIH's acting director Dr. Matthew Memoli also requested information last week about the funding that supports mRNA vaccine research, technology that underpins the COVID-19 shots from Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech, according to an email reviewed by NPR. A similar call for data preceded the termination of the other vaccine grants.

"NIH staff internally are very worried that the mRNA grants will follow the outcome of the vaccine hesitancy grants and be terminated," according to one of the NIH employees who wasn't authorized to speak publicly. "There are widespread concerns that this will limit the ability to combat pandemics and halt promising lifesaving cancer treatments."

This sounds bad but egg prices and immigrants eating dogs…

We’re 5 years after the pandemic and Republicans still can’t decide whether Covid 19 was a vicious virus that was cooked up by fauci and Trump’s critics to take Orange god king down or it was a weak cold like virus that was overblown.

My sister in law recently decided that she will believe the conspiracy theories that is was a hoax and never existed. She even had 2 relatives (on her other side of the family) and a close friend killed by COVID. But suddenly they are rehashing the conspiracies so she decided she needs to believe it. When asked what killed her friend and paused and said "pretty sure it was the Democrats". I **** you not. Un-****ing-believable.

Not surprised. I live in Utah and attend LDS church. lol.

Annnnddd this is why I think we’re in for a generation of right wing authoritarianism: women dying from easily preventable causes, children dying from easily preventable diseases, loss of freedoms, stagnant economy, and a loss of peace and prosperity. We need a generation of misery unfortunately to wake more Americans up from this mass psychosis of boredom, tribal identity, and people seeking entertainment and meaning through ridiculous conspiracies.

Just out of curiosity, does your sister in law have a full time job or does she stay at home? Is she college educated? Is she a practicing Christian? Is she white and living a pretty prosperous life?

It’s amazing to me how often lack of (formal) education, boredom, religion or tribal identity, and prosperity go hand in hand with these things. So many voters are bored as **** and need to make **** up (the librarians are grooming kids, vaccines cause autism, covid 19 isn’t real, George soros is buying elections) to find entertainment and causes to fight against.

Here is something wild. We had this conversation with my SIL over the past couple of days and then Bill Maher posted a video about exactly this issue. The cult is real. I posted the video for you guys to see too. Bill is one of them keeping this all very very real. Thank God for people like him right now, maintaining some level of sanity. I seriously never thought I'd ****ing say THAT.

She is not college educated. She is in one of these non-denominational Christian things where they speak in tongues and have seizures on the floor caught up in the rapture. She is relatively intelligent. She is just fully in the cult. It's really sad to see actually.

200mg of Strychnine should sort her seizures....

Wait till you consider maybe it was Trump who ordered the release of COVID in China from the Wuhan lab in order to attack China, and it backfired.

Not far fetched IMO.
