Trade for Giannis?

I'd kick the tires and see what a deal would need to look like. I doubt we'd have enough of a team left over by the time we're done emptying the cupboard for Giannis. I'm pretty certain Milwaukee would want our top-5 pick this year, our best picks in 2027 and 2029, another pick or two, and a player they like on our roster. It's not going to be John Collins, Colin Sexton, and a few picks.

As It was stated, the Bucks don't have control over any of their picks till 2030. I think any discussion for a Giannis trade from our perspective would have to include whatever young players we think we could be okay partying ways with, be It Collier, Key, Sensabaugh, Cody, Hendricks, Kyle and Kessler (of course, not all of them, but we would have to propose some young players upside). Not sure what the answer would be.

HOU and OKC clear us by mile in trade packages. We ain't getting Giannis unless Flagg is going MIL's way.
I agree but if OKC doesn't enter the bidding it may get a little interesting... maybe. I think SA would come in and offer something juicy. Toronto is another team I could see putting something up that works better than what we give.

Milwaukee's situation in interesting. If I was them I would try to get control of some of their own picks back by offering items in the Giannis trade to Portland and NOP. That might determine more of what they do with the general direction of the team. If NOP look terrible then being bad this year and next may not be all that punitive. If I could get control I would try to tank if I was them. If they can get the swaps back from Portland then maybe you churn the roster a bit and be play in competitive and hope something good comes out of thin air... then opt to tank later when control of the picks has returned.

Either route they take I think we are more likely to get something done for Dame than we are for Giannis. If the young guys were more interesting we may have been in business but all we got is the mystery box right now.

I dunno the problem with trading for him is you have to cash in a lot of your resources to get it done. But he's only got 2 more years left on his deal and if you can't get him to re-sign in that time, and can't assemble the rest of a championship team on that timeline, you basically just lost all of your resources for the chance to get bumped from the first round two years in a row.

If you can, somehow, manage to get him and some other grumpy all-star as part of the same trade season, that changes things, you can maybe compete in that timeline. But if we outbid everyone for Giannis we certainly wouldn't have enough left to win another bidding war.

I suppose its possible we could get him if we went for it. OKC could put together a better package than we could, but might not, since they're already sitting on a contending team and might not want to send out what the Bucks would ask for. Portland and NOP are interesting because they could get their own picks back, which are probably going to be very valuable. But Portland and NOP might say no just for that same reason.

So... Houston, who has a lot of picks, who could also trade Thompson, which they might be willing to do since they are kind of knocking on the door and Giannis might push them into contention... that's probably the most likely outcome. But if they get stingy I dunno maybe we could get our foot in. Suppose you at least make the inquiries.

Seems inevitable he gets dealt with the Dame Achilles tear.

If the Jazz somehow land #1, can they make an asset package that doesn't include Cooper or Lauri to get Giannis?

Nope. If Keyonte or Collier played a tier level higher (especially Key) with what appears all-star potential, I’d say yes. But their ability hasn’t stood out enough. And I think there needs to be one obvious all-star level player in any deal, plus 1-2 other young assets plus at least three 1sts. Probably 4-5.

But I’d start with an offer of Key, Hendricks, Filipowski, four 1sts and go from there. It would require more. Collier and Collins too. Probably Williams as well. Another 1st. And even then it wouldn’t be enough imo.

Yeah....the Rockets are going to give MIL the king's ransom for Giannis. They're going to be feeling the disappointment and pressure of higher expectations after getting first rounded.

On a personal note, I would love it Dame finishes out his career with the Jazz just as they are ready to compete. Potential story book ending for a local college kid.
Agreed. But not if he's held together by spit and chewing gum and can barely hobble down the court and we have to pay him 65 million a year. But if he accepted 15 mill or whatever to be the veteran spark plug off the bench in limited minutes then it would be great.

Not sure I like the trade everything concept for a superstar idea
Lakers did that for Doncic and are about to get eliminated
They have Lebron and Doncic and nothing else
I like the stockpile talent concept until you get a great team
OKC has done it without a #1 pick

I remember Giannis openly admit he likes to play next to Lauri. If jazz could get him we need to surround him with decent shooters. Currently our guards are not good enough

OKC, Houston, or SA are my best guesses. If Milwaukee likes Scottie Barnes a lot maybe Toronto.

I could see Houston putting up Amen or Sengun with stuff and getting it done.

I could maybe see NYK, BOS, or MEM. They have “Star” players that could be going back the other way. But the three you listed should be considered the leaders. I don’t think we’re anywhere close without Flagg.
