I dunno the problem with trading for him is you have to cash in a lot of your resources to get it done. But he's only got 2 more years left on his deal and if you can't get him to re-sign in that time, and can't assemble the rest of a championship team on that timeline, you basically just lost all of your resources for the chance to get bumped from the first round two years in a row.
If you can, somehow, manage to get him and some other grumpy all-star as part of the same trade season, that changes things, you can maybe compete in that timeline. But if we outbid everyone for Giannis we certainly wouldn't have enough left to win another bidding war.
I suppose its possible we could get him if we went for it. OKC could put together a better package than we could, but might not, since they're already sitting on a contending team and might not want to send out what the Bucks would ask for. Portland and NOP are interesting because they could get their own picks back, which are probably going to be very valuable. But Portland and NOP might say no just for that same reason.
So... Houston, who has a lot of picks, who could also trade Thompson, which they might be willing to do since they are kind of knocking on the door and Giannis might push them into contention... that's probably the most likely outcome. But if they get stingy I dunno maybe we could get our foot in. Suppose you at least make the inquiries.
