Trade for Giannis?

I see Sexton and Collins as having strictly negative value for us next season. You could argue that they'd have future value if we extend/re-sign them....but IMO the risk of losing our pick with them is too high to keep them. We were fortunate this year with the tank, let's not mess around. I want to tank again next year, and the following year we'll be ready to try to win something. Dame won't be the same and he'll be very overpaid, but he'll give us something. Then we can sign him to a more reasonable deal as we compete and he heads into the twilight of his career.

Sure, whatever we should maximize the picks we get with JC and Sexton.....but it's definitely a situation where I think we take best offer no matter it is. If it's nothing, take nothing and your reward is that maybe you don't have to trade Lauri.
I think also being able to use Lauri in an all star fashion again without winning too much would be a good benefit of draining talent. If we want to move him we want him being his best self.

Seems crazy to mortgage even more of their draft capital to fake compete for a few more years. They should 100% trade Giannis and start the process now.
Depending on the return and if they can get their draft capital back from NOP and Portland... fake competing might be the peak of what the Bucks fans get for the next 10 years. I agree with you but if they can do the Collins/Clarkson deal I outlined with seconds they might be able to scrap some stuff together with MLE and then trading the other picks (or saying they will) that can stave off death for a while. Its clearly over but the fanbase isn't ready to quit just yet thats for sue.

The argument for keeping Sexton and Collins was that they have value beyond the tanking years, but I really don't think we can F around this time. We can't keep them around if we want Lauri. Old, injured, overpaid Dame isn't worth a lot, but I think he does has some future value and we know there won't be a tanking cost to keep him around like there will be with Sexton and Collins.

They won’t get a player or prospect nearly as good and he probably has another 5 years. You can’t win a trade when you’re trading a perennial MVP candidate.

Furthermore, one game of watching Giannis is more entertaining than all of the best moments from the entire Jazz season combined. He’s a nuclear reactor of revenue generation.

Thats the other thing I keep seeing that is driving me crazy. Folks saying we will just manage Collin and John's minutes and games again... lol we can just do what we did this year.

Both guys in a contract year... if you are doing that then you need to extend them. Even then the young players are a year better and so managing the minutes/games won't be as effective.

Side note - both guys should fire their agents if the Jazz try to do that next year without an extension. It would be malpractice.

Yeah but what if he doesnt want to be there?

There's just a human element to this as well. It will hard to repeat what we did last year for many reasons. I'm not getting picky about what we get for Collins and Sexton, it's non negotiable that they are gone if we keep Lauri. I'm a little skeptical about our tank with Lauri even if those guys are gone.

Agree. If you give Walker an extension and him and Lauri are taken care of... then you can manage a bit if you have sent the other guys out.

I guess what I do is just put Milwaukee and Phoenix on notice of what we'd be willing to do with Beal/Dame and see who produces the best offer. I just don't see anyone that can give things those teams would want and take that much dead salary. I'd call around on some other things but if you can take care of multiple "issues" in one deal there is some utility in that.

Say Mil says - we will do the seconds for Collins/JC/Svi or we will do a 2031 1st unprotected for Collins/Sexton/ and one of Brice or Key. What deal you taking?

Check out this monster:
-Dame + filler/young stuff (Ryan Dunn, Pat, Tyler Smith, one Bucks 2nd*) to Utah
-Durant, Beal, and Svi to Milwaukee
-Sexton/Collins/Clarkson + Kuzma/Portis + Bucks unprotected '31 pick and '32 swap* + one Milwaukee 2nd* to Phoenix

* (Fanspo forgot to add 2032 picks)

-Phoenix gets under the 2nd apron too. They should have a bunch of cap room the following season. With all of that expiring/short money, they could probably use that juicy '31 Bucks pick (+ some late 1sts of other teams' that they have) to get themselves something nice if things line up right. They know they need to retool and this sets them up nicely for that.

-Looks like Milwaukee would still have the MLE and BAE to fill out their roster (mostly starting PG and C; maybe do one year of Monte Morris and Brook + minimum contract specialists?). Beal would have to approve but I get the feeling he might at this point, but there's a smaller more-sane deal without him in it anyway. I think this works regardless of whether Durant signs an extension or not - Milwaukee gets a bunch of cap space if it doesn't work out. They get a metric **** ton of spacing and on-ball scoring ability to compensate for/round out Giannis' weaknesses.

-For us, I really like Ryan Dunn and I think Tyler Smith is really interesting. Maybe Dame has a little bit of gas in the tank when we're done tanking, Pat gives us vet leadership without winning us games. A 2nd way down the road is nice to have.

This is a ridiculously heavy trade but I think it actually makes a lot of sense.
