Following potential 2012 draftees

due to the weak-PG class, I wonder if a guy like Pierre Jackson declares. I have barely watched him play, but he seems like a tough guy... a steal in the second round?

Could be. I'd rather try Machado in the 2nd, but Pierre would be worth a shot as well.

Ok, this is mainly for my own entertainment, but I'll throw this out there.... (BTW, I know this is too many rookies, but, what the hell...)

Here's a dream scenario for next year's draft:

First, the Jazz trade CJ, Bell, or Howard for a second-round draft pick.

Jazz select: Quincy Miller (for obvious reasons), Meyers Leonard (legit 7 footer), Scott Machado (PKM, you seem to be right about him), and John Jenkins (3-pt specialist)

This is also assuming the Jazz find a way to acquire Augustin or some other established PG.

The roster would look something like this:

Augustin/Watson/Machado
Burks/Hayward/Bell?/Jenkins
Hayward/Miller/Evans
Millsap/Kanter/Favors
Favors/Leonard

yup, no Al or Devin

EDIT TO ADD: I'm selecting Leonard without much research. His physical profile is intriguing for a backup C. That's all.

I dont watch much college ball, (other than byu) but today while on break at work i watched some of the missouri game.
There is a player on thier team named Kim English who had 19 points and 6 rebounds with 10 minutes left in the game. I saw him hit a few 3's and seemed like he has a real pretty shot. He looks to be the size of a small forward (not sure what position he is) and seemed to hustle for rebounds and play good D.
Missouri is ranked #3 and he seems to be quite good. Anybody know anything about him? Why is no one talking about him? Is he just having a good game today, but normally isn't very good? PKM? Cyrone? Any info would be appreciated.

Sorry, Fish, missed this post somehow. I think English is being undervalued, nice catch. He did have an above-average game today, but he is shooting the ball very well this year. He is a senior, but he is much better this year that he was in prior three years of collegiate play. He is definitely not a SF in the NBA, imo. He's 6'6, tops (maybe) and is not overly long. So a good size SG with a perimeter shot.

If I had to say why he's not higher on the mocks, it's because he's a fairly one-dimensional player. Not a great passer, not a great rebounder, and isn't explosive enough as an NBA SG.

So, I'd say he's a mid to late 2nd rounder that most teams would like to have on the roster. (someone that come in and hit 3's without getting totally killed on defense.

I would definitely trade any of CJ, Bell, or Howard for a 2nd round pick. Adding either Jenkins or his teammate (Jeffrey Taylor) would be an upgrade, for sure.

Yeah, Jenkins would be an immediate upgrade. I think.

You have any thoughts on Leonard? What other big men do you like? What sort of qualities do you think we need in another young big (considering what we already have)?

I wouldn't mind adding a big, but only if we got rid of one this year or next. Of those projected in the lottery;

Sullinger: No. He's smaller than most people think (I'd say short of 6'10) AND his feet are glued to the floor. He has tons of trouble going up against longer collegiate centers. He'll be drafted too highly.

Leonard: Overall, he's had a little trouble when Illinois has played ranked teams and has padded his stats during the cupcake route. So, that makes me a tad nervous. Having said that, he's a great athlete and has the length. He's a bit raw offensively (more than a bit) .. I'm 50/50 on Meyers, if it's me, I take someone else.

Anthony Davis: Yes, game changer all the way .. but he'll go #1, so I'll spare the explanation.

Drummond: Going to go #2 so I'll spare the details. (Having said that, both of these guys would be awesome .. both are athletic freaks, and Davis could become the best defensive player in the league.)

Robinson: YES! Great PF. A little undersized, but strong as a bull, ATHLETE, rebounding nightmare (he and Kanter would grab them all) and he's a dynamic player a la Griffin lite.

PJones: Hmmm .. risky, imo .. he tends to shrink when the going gets tough, I've ALWAYS been worried about his work ethic/desire. Upside is unquestionable, but not sure he'll ever attain it. (I said this exact same thing about Greg Monroe, so keep that in mind, lol). I'd definitely take this guy at 8 or 9.

Henson: Nice talent. Decent shot out to 12 or 15 feet. Great shot blocker/athlete. I'd take him around 15'ish.

Zeller: I like Zeller. He runs the floor VERY well. He has a great hook shot. Having said that, I'd put him around 18-20 in this draft.

Patric Young: Really like this kid but he'll struggle in the NBA. Too small to play C and too unskilled to play PF. 20's.

There are many others, including Terrence Jones, Mike Moser, Arnett Moultrie, etc .. but I'm tired, lol.

Electric with the ball in his hands, real nice court vision to go with nice size and athleticism for the position.

I understand his perimeter game needs work, and he needs to figure out how to reel it in a bit and not be out of control as often as he is - but he's got the tools!

He could be TJ Ford, he could be something a bit better than that, or he could be Sebastian Telfair. No one knows yet. He's probably worth a later first-round pick to find out though.

^^ I do think Thomas has better scoring instincts and will be the better of the two. I'd like to have him as a backup, no doubt.

Nice numbers by machado I so hope we draft him. What a great second round pick. The 2 players I am jonesing for are miller and machado. Then either rivers or beal. All 3 are respectable shooter and define their positions.

It seems like there are a lot of 2nd round players that have a lot of potential this year...Pierre Jackson, Machado, John Jenkins, Jeff Taylor...exciting stuff.

Yes. The entire 2nd round, if selected properly, has the potential to ALL contribute.

Of course, that's why I said most likely trade down.

If anyone needed anymore evidence that Leonard isn't ready to make the jump, check out today's Illini-Nebraska game. He's got all the tools, but has major strides to make upstairs on the court.
