Just so ya knowz: We don't take kindly to noobz round these here parts, eh, n00b?

i got on facebook just barely to post about the al jefferson trade.. then i saw CJ's status as "gone...."
idk if its because he is traded or because he wants to sleep... we need CJ!!!! taking al jefferson for booz and miles is NOT WORTH it. CJ was very important to us in the playoffs and when i think he is finally showing what he can do... he BETTER not be involved in this trade..

He says that all the time.

I'd be shocked if Miles is moved. A former starter w/playoff experience who only makes $3.7 million (plus a team option next year). His age and contract make him too valuable a player to trade with our payroll increasing this dramatically. Then we'd essentially have 2 wing slots to fill and you won't find a better replacement for Miles for that price. Can' see it happening.

i can only hope you are right

He says that all the time.

i know but the timing and all.... and i second vslice's opinion on having brown as sg. he is more of a shooter/scorer than a pg and i think he bring the intensity matthews brings to the court

what's with this Brown obsession ? Do we really need to have atleast one undersized, poor outside shooting wing every now and then? Maybe he can replace Price, but not Mathews.

My thoughts exactly, he is basically a bigger version of Price with a bit better shot. I would like him, but I wouldnt break the bank to get him.

Jazz weren't going to use all of the assets.
I agree they probably weren't going to use every single asset, but if they used them in a different order, they could have used more of them. If I was KOC, that would have been my plan unless there was an offer I just couldn't pass up. For example, using the MLE and Harp's TPE ends up at about $12M, or roughly what they will pay Jefferson. The difference is the Boozer TPE retains value until next offseason (when AK's off the books), but the other TPEs and the MLE don't. So they could have added two role players with the MLE and Harp TPE, then still grabbed a bigger contract next year. This way I don't know if they do that, because they're already about $2M over the LT with 9 players on the roster.

I said all along that they should use the Boozer TPE this season only if it was a pretty sure thing. Maybe they think this is. I'm coming around on it. I've always though Jefferson was a little overrated, but I'd lost track of the fact that he's still only 25 and the additional size should help. He's a less complete offensive player, but if that keeps him closer to the basket (instead of shooting fadeaways), that's not entirely bad. Give me another day or two and I'm sure I'll be ordering my Big Al Jazz jersey.

Kenwood - I like your analysis of the AL Jefferson pick-up on your blog - keep up the good work.

I was pretty skeptical about the Jazz going after another power forward when we have Millsap and some concerns at center, sf and sg. From what everyone is saying, AL can play some center until Okur comes back so that gives me hope. Otherwise, I like his ability to have a mean streak and the thought of a Jefferson/Millsap/AK back court causing trouble on defense. Hopefully Jefferson thrives in a winning organization.

Yeah, 3 million over the tax with 9 players is a concern.

11-12 is a concern salary wise, though not nearly as bad as Matthews + Boozer would be.

I wonder if Memo is indeed the odd man out and may get traded. I don't know if the Jazz are THAT willing to go into the tax again.

They will have Memo malinger until the insurance kicks in, then trade him off, like they done with Harp.

I can't imagine anyone trading for Memo right now... recovering from a ruptured achilles, an injury that he may or may not come all of the way back from.

As to what next?, I'd be contented if the Jazz just got a decent outside shooting wing who is above average on defense. They can call it an offseason. But if they have something bigger lined up like trading AK and getting someone like Al Harrington, then even better. Assuming that they dont match Mathews, they lost two guys in Korver and Mathews who shot well from 3-pt range last year. That's what they need to fix next.
Suddenly, after possibly getting a 20/10 guy like Jefferson for 42 mil, 35 mil for Mathews looks too much. It always looked a little high, but now it looks obscene. I am aware of the length of the contracts, but still..

Just realized that other than Deron, the 3 guys making the big bucks on the Jazz next year-Jefferson, AK and Okur, would all come with an injury history. That makes me a bit nervous.

Find a sucker for AK, and sign a good wing, that would be close to a perfect offseason.

i dont like harrington for ak swap. we would lose too much on the defensive side. yeah harrington on the paper looks better but on the court we would be worse because ak brings intangibles and defense harrington cant bring

There's no way Matthews is coming back now. We need a 4th wing. That's the last move. Probably going to be from the bargain bin. We have to accept the tax at this juncture, with the idea AK could get dealt at the deadline to avoid it. Brewer/Brown/Barnes. I'd take Brewer, but I'm sure LOTS of people will disagree with me.

Let me be the first to disagree. I would rather have Brown first then Barnes and Brewer as a last resort. Why? Brown can play both PG and SG. He is just as athletic as Brewer and can actually shoot outside. Barnes is a tough defender who does not back down. He can make the 3 pt. too. Both are all around better players than Brewer.

THANK YOU! and his highlight reel once in awhile in ESA will make ESA go nuts!!! the jazz will feed off that and go on runs because thats what the jazz do!

Why not just get Brewer? Who is a longer and better defender, and makes just as many highlights?

brown is in different level than brewer. have you looked at his highlights on youtube? and now that we lost our possibly two best 3pt shooting threats in matthews and korver, we desperately need a shooter. browns ability to shoot makes me lean towards signing brown rather than brewer

I would love Shannon Brown on our team. Also really like the idea of giving Shaun Livingston a look as a possible backup. Low risk, and he's got a much higher ceiling than Gaines or Price.

Should be interesting to see how this Al Jefferson thing shakes out. I'm not getting my hopes up till it's a done deal.

I'm also not opposed to bringing back Brewer (assuming we don't match Portland), as long as its not at the expense of cutting CJ's minutes. I really think CJ is primed for a breakout year playing 30 minutes a night. Let AK, Brewer, Hayward rotate.

If the Jazz don't think Kosta or Fes are ready, then I'd like to see them sign James Augustine or Louis Amundsen. Amundsen may cost a little more than he's worth.

I'm starting to salivate for this upcoming season. While I don't expect anyone to remember what I've posted over the past couple years - I will reiterate, I wanted Carlos and Kyle gone since that time. Paul is ready to earn that money. So is CJ. Most of all, D-Will is ready to take over
