What's new

Congrats to Jeremy Evans, 2012 Slam Dunk Champion!!!

Should have done this dunk instead of the first one. Basic 360, but he gets his head at the rim and the rotation seems slower than most, so it makes it look cooler.
Looks like he could probably pull a 540. That would be nice.

Your an idiot. Dunk contest sucks these days and needs to be replaced. Watered down

....even though ncoloradojazz is an arch enemy of mine on this board, I agree with him 100% on this! What is so exciting about 6 ft 5 inch guys or taller dunking on a 10 ft goal??? The only dunk contests that were really exciting were the two that had Spud Webb winning and Brent Barry, a white guy, winning! NOW that.....is an achievement! So I propose they change the format of the dunk contest to ONLY include short guys and white guys! If they have any black guys in the thing.....they need to raise the basket to 11 feet or higher to make it interesting again! Oh, and another thing: this idea of missing 5 dunks and still advancing or even winning the event is RIDICULOUS! I think Nate Robinson won the dunk contest.....after missing like 12 dunks in a row! You miss a dunk, you are OUT! Name another contest where you can fail 12 times in a row and succeed on the 13th try....and then win $50,000??? PLEASE!!!

Besides Hayward and Kevin Hart, Jeremy also thanked Dwight Howard via twitter. Jeremy the ambassador

Evans' second dunk was outstanding - but IMO he's not wellsuited for dunk contests. He's a better game dunker because of his size, length, and how quickly he can get off the ground. He gets incredible elevation very quickly, and that's a huge advantage in the limited time he gets on the court.

In a dunk contest, at 6-9 Evans is actually at a disadvantage because of his height. If a 2-guard soars over Kevin Hart with his arm behind his head like the Mailman - that gets more of a response than Evans because at 6-9 it doesn't look as impressive with a taller guy doing it.

Overall, unless you can get guys like DeRozan and physical freaks who can soar like LeBron and Blake Griffin into it - IMO the dunk contest will continue not to live up to the hype in the future years. At this point you have too many gimmicks and not enough of the best athletes who can perform and execute the most difficult dunks.

That aside, great for the Jazz but most importantly great for Jeremy to win. Dunk contests aside, he's an athletic freak as a basketball player and it's great that more NBA fans finally got a chance to see some of that.

The reasons guys like Lebron won't do it is because they don't have any good dunks. He would look bad and get compared to the superstars who did it better in hte 80's and 90's.

The camera was something new that could have made him win in a land slide but instead he wasted it on the weakest dunk in the history of the dunk contest. Glad he still got the win! He had the best dunk of the night though with two balls in only 2 attempts.

I dont see how it could have been that great? You want to know what it looks like to dunk? Lower your goal to 9 feet and have fun.

I know I'm not the only one who skipped halfway through that movie to avoid seeing his first dunk.

To be fair, he just bounced it bad. I'm sure it could have looked a lot better with a better bounce and it was a safe and smart dunk to begin with. He should have rethrown the bounce but there's all this pressure on the dunkers that they have to do it right and do it the first time I'm sure he panicked. I have no excuse for him hanging on the rim. Awkward.

Great for Jeremy! I am so happy for the guy.

I just saw the dunks, finally. Had to busy of a weekend to see any of it until now.

Great stuff. Great to see Jeremy get a chance to shine like that, since he hardly gets to play. Maybe now fans will pay attention when he get the oop dunks during games.
