What's new

Stockton is #1....but

My guess:

1) Larry Bird
2) John Stockton
3) Jerry West
4) Pete Maravich
5) Rick Barry
6) Dirk Nowitzki
7) Steve Nash
8) Detlef Schrempf
9) Chris Mullin
10) Arvydas Sabonis

Do you think that team would beat this one?

1) Michael Jordan
2) Wilt Chamberlain
3) Magic Johnson
4) Kareem Abdul Jabbar
5) Oscar Robertson
6) Karl Lamone
7) Round Mound
8) Bill Russell
9) Dr J
10) Elgin Baylor

We should also now merge this thread with the Black Power thread.

....not even close! I'm old school, and have seen NBA players when your head was the size of a grape!

1) Kareem Abdul Jabbar
2) Wilt Chamberlin
3) Bill Russell
4) Oscar Robertson
5) Karl Malone
5) John Stockton
7) Magic Johnson
8) Michael Jordan
9) Larry Bird
10) Jerry West

.....I probably could tweak that list a little bit, but just threw it together to get you off my back!

I would also maybe drop Jordan down below Bird. I'm with you.

Good list. As much as it pains me, I'd have to put Kobe in the top ten, now. ****, I said it. I need a shower.

I didn't think you could make yourself look any dumber than you already have but Michael Jordan 8th behind, well, anyone. You're a moran.

Now that's a homer list if I ever saw one! Props for being a true Jazz fan!

....didn't really give a whole lot of thought to the exact ranking, just gave you my top 10 list. Jordan would probably be in the top 5, based on what, I do not know! However, he would NEVER pass Kareem, since Kareem has as many championships plus WAY more career totals than Jordan. In addition to that, Kareem had the only TRUE UNSTOPPABLE shot in basketball, the "skyhook" which possibly predates your watching NBA basketball anyway!

....when you consider total career stats, Stockton and Malone have to be top 10. Not a homer call at all! Stockton has the most steals and assists by far, two records that will NEVER be broken....and Malone is 2nd in scoring total, along with a host of other records, rebounding, free throws attempted, free throws made, etc. They are top 10 for sure, no joking aside!

....no jailhouse tats on that list! In fact, in view of the fact that Jordan probably has one by now, I'm thinking of removing him from that list...and replacing him with, maybe Olijawhan from Houston!

Back to Nash- though this thread was started in jest he's got to be ranked among the best ever at the PG position. I remember the first time I heard an announcer mention that Nash would be regarded as one of the best and I laughed, but then realized he was right. I'm no Nash homer, but he is fun to watch.

...thank you! My point exactly. I thought he was much closer to Stockton's assist record than he really is. Not that he would ever catch John, but he's so far behind that catching him hasn't even crossed his mind!

The "best" isn't necessarily a tale of who has the most numbers.
If Jordan did not take a "break", I'm sure he would have total numbers that are up there, and yet he is still viewed as the best ever.

The problem with adding rings into the mix of who the best ever is, is that it is a team game and it's hard to judge an individual based on a team number.

Here's the #1 and #2.

No one faced as much fierce competition and still made the finals multiple times. Thomas won two titles over Jordan, Bird, and Magic. Who else is in that category? Maybe Moses Malone or Olajuwon?

Olajuwon won both of his titles when Jordan was sitting out 2 years for gambling violations! So there goes that theory!

above Jordan and Magic?...

Excellent point, calinajazz. So now we're down to maybe Moses Malone accomplishing a similar feat to Isaiah Thomas, the 2nd best PG ever.

....Isaiah Thomas is NOT the 2nd best PG ever....not even close! Oh, and by the way, Thomas is the WORSE GM who ever entered that profession upon retiring. His decision making set the Knicks franchise back at least 10 years! And Dr. J would NEVER have won his only championship....without riding the coat tails of Moses Malone!
