KOC Interview from Locked on Sports today

Good interview. A couple of things that may (or may not) surprise some people:

1. KOC "begged" Chicago for the TPE, he says (not entirely joking, either)
2. They have been forming alternative plans (includin acquiring Jefferson) for months (assuming they didn't re-sign Booza)
3. Deron was asked for input and he gave a lot of helpful insight about players
4. KOC has "not been gittin much sleep" lately.

One thing nobody mentioned is that when they asked about matching Matthews contract he said who knows maybe we make a couple moves before than.......... So just to create some hype on maybe a trade to keep matthews.

I was also stoked to hear him throw out the "additional moves to be made" statement. But keep in mind, we'll take the whole 7 days and keep Portland thinking we may match just to tie up their money for as long as possible. We may not see much happen after we don't resign Wesley. But you never know, mother******* just unload a **** ton of assets on a player with big time potential. I would be very happy with getting either Brown or Brewer, and Barnes in here.

I don't see how they can unload anymore space to sign Wesley. If they really believe he's worth it then I'll support it. But I really want Barnes in here, whether we resign Matthews or not.

Currently listening to.

Jefferson was being discussed for a couple of months.
They talk to Williams a lot. KOC says he has a great insight into players and they've been keeping him informed.
KOC thinks AJ can be a 20/10 guy.
KOC says nothing happens unless the Miller family signs off on it.
KOC believes if AJ was unrestricted, he would have been one of the top FA's out there.
They both think AJ is either a top 4 or 5 PF in the west.
They'll be having a meeting tomorrow regarding Matthews and that there might be some other moves.

Again, nice find Penny. Us out-of-towners appreciate it.

A barnes,Tolliver/Amundson and Brown plus getting al and getting rid of Boom Bitches would be the best off season in Jazz history. What would the Jazz' weakness be? They got 2 legit post scorers, got improved D down low, improved bench and tough defenders on the wing. Also, if they get Brown, he could play some back up point and shooting guard and wouldn't hurt the team with him in like it was with Price in

Did you note how KOC mentions a couple of times he's known GM's for 30+ years (Paxson, Kahn). Don't underestimate the "old guy network." Paxson did Utah a favor because he has a great working realtionship with KOC. And Kevin said maybe that comes back around down the road if Utah has a chance to return a favor.

I was impressed by two poinst:
A) KOC said they had discussed this very scenario about acquiring Jefferson a few months ago, maybe even in connection with the draft.

Now I think the McHale trip makes sense. I'll bet the Jazz had offered some package including Tomic and their #9 pick to move up to the #4. Maybe AK's expiring for Jefferson was involved as part of that discussion.

B) "Deron is a part of this organization" and he provides input on a lot of players. Explains why Deron was pretty diplomatic about what was happening. Not too much reaction to Boozer and Korver leaving, outside of wishing them well. He knew the Jefferson deal was on the front burner.

And I agree re: Matthews. Sounds like Wesley is gone. Kevin hinted there might be some additional moves happening pretty fast. I think that's signing a wing. Brewer?

You guys do realize that the biggest reason the Wolves FO went to Europe was to watch Nemaja, whom they required in the draft via Washington right?

This was also good. CJ has been working as hard as last season and feels very confident coming into training camp. I'm tellin ya, I saw CJ in preseason and he looked sharp. The thumb really ruined my excitement for him that season. He mentioned how the thumb was a blessing in disguise. He said that even though he couldn't lift and work his upper body as much as he would've liked to, the injury made him mentally tougher. He had high expectations for himself last year, and he wasn't physically able to bring it. He also talked about how he built confidence to drive more and get to the hoop cause he couldn't shoot.

I'm once again very excited to see what CJ can do this year.

Thanks for the recap. Don't think it's posted.

I remember listening to a pre-season interview last year and had really high expectations for CJ. It's good to know that last seasons injury didn't shake his confidence and he's coming back just as "hungry". He's like 23 right? Bring it CJ - we need you!
