Punch Bowl Re-Filler
My first thought is the Jazz need to trade Big Al. Offensive black hole (although his assists have gone up lately) and defensive liability. And he makes too damn much. Trade Jefferson and that means Favors needs to play the 5 for about half his minutes (when Kanter is resting). Can he hold his own against the better 5's in the league?
Then my thought process turns to trading Millsap and pairing Jefferson, who has shown he's a legit center, with Favors and having Kanter rotate in. With this three-man rotation, Al & Kanter are forced to play some mins together. Who is the PF in that case, especially guarding opposing 4's? Or do we need to pick up a pretty good player who would be content with 10 mins off the bench - and I'm not talking about a guy like Elson or Collins. Or do we have that person in Evans?
Perhaps what we need most in the draft is a combo forward. Someone who is primarily a SF, but could match up effectively against the backup 4's of other teams.
I'm leaning most towards a trade of Big Al. I think Millsap's mid-range game is just too valuable to give up, especially since Kanter and Favors are both inside players with limited offensive games. Millsap is a good compliment to either. But we would need to sign or draft another big, hopefully one who could walk and chew gum at the same time.
In any case, I won't be too upset if the situation is still unresolved through early next year (i.e. up 'til the trading deadline). Favors and Kanter still need to show some consistency. And, Utah has been very lucky in terms of injuries. Generally, you'd expect a couple of the bigs to miss some games here and there. That all 4 have remained relatively free of injuries/dings is unexpected and has caused some of the problems with PT.
