Black Kid Shot in Gated Neighboorhood

Heard on the NPR today the neighborhood in which this happened had a population of 30% black people.

THe Sanford police department also has a bad record.
 
news today is that there was another recent incident that makes me question the integrity and competence of the police and justice department of this town
 
I can't believe no one has mentioned that the killer err shooter called 911 forty-six times on New Years. Neighbors called him creepy and avid for his Neighborhood Watch job.

I'm cool with wanting to protect your community. But calling 911 forty-six times in one day? Ummmmmm... If that doesn't raise a red flag, then I don't know what would....

This dude was a punkass. Probably didn't have much of a social life... He loved Call of Duty... Felt powerful with a gun... Repeated before he murdered this teen err I mean protected himself, "These *racial slur* always get away." He was clearly the aggressor, looking to wipe someone out.

This is a pretty easy case for me. I have no clue why this thread has gone on for so long debating this issue.

Zimmerman had problems with his ego and only felt powerful when he was butting into business that he shouldn't have. This time, he took it way too far and killed a teen. He needs to be sentenced to either life or the chair.

For the future, jackasses like these need to be released from their duties. Protect, sure. But he called the cops 46 times in one day. Folks, how did he retain his job after that? The Police and community should have taken this dude's gun and walkie talkie away and forced him to get off welfare and get a real job.

Like I said, each passing day more stories come out that only make Zimmerman look worse and worse.

Can you really claim self defense after that?

I can't imagine anyone buying a self defense argument (against an unarmed kid who weighs 100 pounds less) from the guy who admits to starting the fight.

Furthermore, the police told him to back off to stop following.... Zimmerman ignored their instructions and proceeded to steal the life of a 17-year old.

Do away with this white trash and send his soul to hell. He and Josh Powell can have a party.

The mere fact that he hasn't been arrested, exposes racism.

I'm white and I KNOW that this is complete racist ********. From the killing to the lack of arrest.

What pisses me off the most, is that this was completely avoidable. Yet, this society has lost so much common sense....

A dumbass with a long history of porn and a jacked up family and suspected of murder, SHOULDN'T have any custody over his kids.

This is so gross to me. Zimmerman was a waste of air. He shouldn't have taken out his frustration and paranoia out on someone with potential. Yet, I'm more pissed that Zimmerman was even placed in such a position. Someone that should have been in a nuthouse shouldn't have a gun or be placed in any authority.

Does it matter? This is an obvious hate crime and the dude should be in jail right now getting some interracial love from Bubba.

From what I have been seeing on tv about this, Zimmerman was not an "official" neighborhood watch. He was just calling himself the neighborhood watch and playing cop.

Which is incredibly creepy. I think someone else mentioned it, but everyone in the neighboorhood thought he was a weirdo and avoided him.

Zimmerman was older, much larger, and had training on how to handle the situation. He acted negligently at best. Letting him go would send a terrible message: If you pick a fight, and let the other guy get a few blows in, you're justified in shooting to kill. Zimmerman should be facing some charges, and I think his actions warrant hard time.

The police have handled this situation terribly. Witnesses who have told police that they heard Martin cry out for help have been "corrected" by police. Why? Why weren't homicide detectives sent to the scene (narcotics detectives were sent instead)? Why wasn't Zimmerman's car searched? Why wasn't Zimmerman tested for alcohol or drugs? Why have relevant phone calls, including several 911 calls, been suppressed?

While there'd be some amount of anger over the racial underpinnings of this story even if it were a simple case of self-defense, the unanswered questions, criminal past, racist remarks and aggressive, erratic behavior of Zimmerman, as well as the police mishandling of the case, make all the hate being spouted by the media and various civil rights groups justified in my mind.

Maybe they "corrected" witnesses because they have evidence that is was Zimmerman who cried out. When Zimmerman called 911 he said Trayvon looked like he was on drugs so maybe that is why the narcotics cop was the first on the scene. I don't know who is claiming racist remarks on the 911 call but others have said you couldn't make out his comments. Zimmerman also mentioned Trayvon was looking in windows; scoping out the neighborhood. Just because he had skittles on him doesn't mean he couldn't be up to trouble.

According to the Herald, Zimmerman would often go door-to-door in the neighborhood, warning residents to be careful of young black males. The news organization also reports Zimmerman was energetic in his efforts to protect the neighborhood, and that he contacted police 46 times since Jan. 1, 2011, to report disturbances, break-ins and other incidents.

"He would circle the block and circle it; it was weird," Teontae Amie, 17, told the Herald.

Yeah. That's what I've been reading too. A "Self-Appointed" neighborhood watch. Who proved to be a bigger threat to the community than anyone else.

Exhibit A for why we need to have tighter gun restrictions...

Zimmerman needed a straight jacket not a gun.
